Especially the color images of the H-13 , I like those a lot .

A whiel back I did a little bit of a search for a 1/72 H-13D but all I could see was the standard Italeri H-13S kit , which I already have 5 of in the stash . I keep thinking Palva did one in resin but I'm not sure . While I was searching around the net I did find this pic of a HO3S-1 Dragonfly

The helicopter was embarked on HMAS Sydney and was dubbed "uncle pete" in reference to the serial numbers on the aircraft . One of my two Mach 2 Dragonfly builds isn't going to work out with all the windows badly fogged by super glue . It's a pitty too , as it was the one I had cut the side door out to pose open . I'm now thinking of buying another and start again and build her along side the Airfix Firefly , which comes with the option of folded wings .... Dragonfly and Firefly ....Two Flies on deck !

On a sad note , my father is back in hospitial battling lymphona for the second time . He started some chemo today , with more to follow over the next few weeks . Hopfully everything will go well .

8th FBW flew F-86s in Korea after transitioning from the F-80 in lare 1952 early 1953.

I have Microscale sheet 72-289 already, which has markngs for three aircraft but doesn't indicate whether they were operational in Korea. The aircraft were FU-877 from the 8th FBW, FU-467 from the 322nd FDG and FU-698 from the 50th FBW.

Any ideas on where to find out this ? It would be good to use a decal that's been in the stash for years.

Heya!

That's an awesome kit, quite possibly the best one in that scale.  I built a 'squadron of Sabres' for the GB just this winter and did both the Academy and it's Hobby Craft "Red-headed step child" kit.  The only thing that I have to say about that kit in particular is to buy different decals.  The Academy kit's decals not only don't stay on well, but they also don't bend or conform to surfaces and won't work with any decal solvent I've ever used.

Other than that, it's a fantastic kit!  Great fit, lots of little 'extras' like the intake and exhaust covers.  Wonderful cockpit detail!  Glad to have you on board!

Greg, nice pics there I have not seen that Saber since my trip to the Smithsonian in '76. I still have a poor photo of it here somewhere. Thank you for the better pic. And nice view of the Korean War memorial.

Gamera, yes I do think that Peck nailed the MacArthur persona. And the actors who played Roosevelt and Truman shined as well, especially the one who played Truman. The conflict between the two over the Korean War was very well depicted.

Helo, the M46 is indeed and evolution of the M26. The M26 was underpowered using the same engine as the M4A3 on an obviously heavier armored and armed tank. The M46 was basically a re engined M26A1. US tank design between the M4 and the M1 was essentially an evolution and improvement of the M26 series. M26, M46, M47, M48, M60 are that series.

Greg: Those are great photos! Is the first one from the National Korean War Memorial?

I've got it, and it's VERY nice!  Lots of detail, and even comments on initial engagements.  I'd suggest it if you're really a tread head.

With all that studying and the like you have done over the past 12 months , you definitly deserve to be able to kick back , relax and throw done a few brew's .

The pic of the Sikorsky H05S-1 is great as well as the H-19 . Sure would be nice if someone gets around to manufacting a H05S-1 kit . Unicraft do a nice resin S-62 / HH-52 and they have plans for a S-52 as a future release but I've heard nothing more recently . It would also be nice if someone did a resin engine for the H-19/H04S-3 helo  and add the H-34 in as well .....

Cliff , amazon books have a T-34 v M-26 book listed , I just thought I would mention it as I think the M-46 was an updated version of the M-26 but I'm not really an armour guy so I should be carefull about speaking on things I don't know much about . In any case I don't know if there would be any Korean  War reference pic's in the fore mention book , I was tempted to buy one but I'm not sure .

Yeah after watching it again I can tell it did have a bit smaller budget than 'Patton'. Not much in the way of battle scenes but I think they did pretty well with what they had. Peck I think nailed MacArthur and most of the rest of cast did quite well. 

And the M48s did work pretty well. I don't think any of the HVSS Shermans served in the Pacific during the Second World War but hey at least they were Shermans! Couldn't tell if the landing craft were there or stock footage but they looked really good too.

I did enjoy that movie. Saw it last year thru Netflix. You could just tell that it had a smaller budget than Patton. But certainly worth the watch. Supposedly some sequences were filmed in Korea and the PI for it. And at least the M48s in the Korea sequences are not too far removed from the M26s/M46s that they are supposed to represent. Same suspension and main gun somewhat

Still trying to get the hang of the new fourm but thought I'd point this out for those who get Turner Classic Movies- they're running 'MacArthur' tonight (June 26) at 8:00 EST. Starring Gregory Peck as the general it's not quite as good as 'Patton' but still a pretty good movie.

John: Yeah a little off but I wouldn't have noticed if you didn't point it out!

The 'Armor in Korea' book tempted me to put the M46 back out again and look things over. I'm going to try to get back to her when I clean some more stuff off the bench. I've been working on a few models without any PE so I think I'm back in the mood to get back to the stuff.

PS: Your opinions here guys? I still want to do the diorama with a knocked out N. Korean T34 but I keep looking at the cool tiger face schemes in the Squadron book and really want to do one. Big problem when the US Army/Marine Corps started applying the tiger faces there weren't any T34s left. So I'm stuck with:

1). T34 and plain jane M46.

2). Tiger face M46 and ditch the T34.

3). Screw around with history and show both even though it's inaccurate....

I feel just as guilty Stik in that I have 10 builds which have been 95% finished for over two months and they really should have been completed by now . The Panther , Skyraider and Dragonfly's are still waiting for decals and the only recent progress was some silver on the C-54 Skymaster

I stuffed-up a little on the canopy masking with one of the two front windsceen panels not in line with the other

Yes it is a great book. My copy is nearly 30 years old now and very well worn from all the reading usage it has given me.

With lot's of awesome pic's , I spent a small fortune buying 1.72-76 scale armor kits ...

I'm sure you will find something interesting in the book that will have you heading off to the LHS ...

I fell in love with the M40 'Big Shot' with the oriental dragon on the side and found out that the AFV Club kit of the SPG has decals for that vehicle. I'm hoping I'll be able to find one at a good price from a vender at our show in about two months from now.

And that South Korean M36 Jackson with the OD green and tan camo caught my eye too.  Not to mention all the awesome Cromwells and Centurians!

Draken: Again, good luck, hopefully the principle can do something. Gee it's friggin' frustrating when people have no respect.

One little update on the models that were stolen from my office; I've been going over what I have trying to figure out what's gone and noticed that my Matchbox/Revell Ger. M-7 and my Milicast M-32 are both gone.  The M-7 isn't so big of a deal since it was incorrect, but the M-32 and the broken mostly disappeared 90mm AA gun were the two most expensive kits I've got on display. 

I'm going to talk to the teacher again and ask him to see if he can't find the recovery vehicle for me.  Stranger things have happened.
