If anyone was interested in a 1/72 SA-16B Albatros , Tower Hobbies there in the US has them listed as "Order Pending" ; I just back ordered two of them . I don't know what decals come with the kit but one of them I'll airbrush black all over for a 3rd Air Rescue Service , Korean War bird .

The price is listed as $19.95 each , not too bad considering the $55 plus asking price for the early release kit from a couple of those Vintage-Hard to Find on-line hobby kit merchants . At one stage I was even thinking about paying that much ; Thank God , common sence kicked in . I think it was fellow FSM member Aaronw say's sometimes it pay's to wait ......"sure does"

Hey. its been confiremed about the Mig15, I'm changing my model to Tamiyas Mig15, I wont know the markings till it comes in.

I got an update with the HRS-2 that I have been slowly working on. 

I managed to get the fuselage sections all buttoned up.  I didn't have any time to sand the seams but it appears that very little putty will be needed.  Good thing.......I used up most of my putty on the B-1 Lancer.

The top engine cowling section has lined up nicely , that's the most important part . Don't worry too much about the nose section not quite matching up perfectly , that's a fault with Italeri's kit not the modeler , I found that out the first time I tried to put one together . Anyway it's easier to sand and putty the front section to get everything to blend in .

You and Travis are making nice progress on your HRS-2's , my two are nearly ready to glue both fuselage halves together , I'll post some pic's shortly .

Thanks for the good words Helo.  I was a little worried about the misalignment of the upper section.  I took your advice from you earlier post and made sure the rear section was lined up good and not to worry about the forward section.  I managed to get the panel lines in the forward section to line up.  I should be able to make it look like a helicopter when I am done........I hope.

The SAAF F-86 has just received it's final claercoat and then the problem sprang up on me! When I removed the masking tape (normal paper tipe) from the canopy, the whole thing was covered with the glue residue of the tape. It must have hapened when I left the plane in the sun to cure the paint a few times.Remember, I re-painted the thing numerous times ans I clearly had no idea of what I was doing

Any idea of how I can remove this stukk without damaging it???

Hello there Theuns,

I use a product called "Goo Gone" to remove any residue left by masking tape.  It is a citrus based cleaner and is safe on styrene.  I hope this helps.

A question for Helo......I noticed that on your H-19 builds that you painted the 2 upper windows on the canopy section transparent green.  I was wondering if certain variants had the green glass windows because there is no mention of that in the instruction sheet of my Italeri kit and maybe my kit instructions omitted that info?  The kit has 3 different countries markings.  I am at that point of painting the green or not.  I wanted that to look right.  I trust your judgment.  Thank you sir.

to be perfectly honest I can't remember why I decided to give the upper canopy windows a few coats of transparent green . I checked through my reference books and the only close-up pic I could find of the front canopy was this one ...

I have a few more Italeri H-19 kits in the stash , so i think I'll swap the two geen tinted canopies for two plain ones , I really can't figure out why I tinted them , from all the H-19 pic's in my Korean War books , it certainly appears that the canopies a plain glass all over .

I'm glad you asked the question , I'll grab two canopies from the stash and dip them in some 'Future' and let them dry over night .

On another note my Anigrand 1/72 C-124 Globemaster II and book arrived today ...

The build looks quite straight forward , although the small round fuselage windows are vacuformed like the front cockpit windsceen/canopy , It  may well be quite a job cutting each window from the clear sheet !!!

Is there some type of tool or cutter which would be suitable for cutting out all those little windows ?

Theuns: yeah, Goo Gone is good stuff. I've only used it on small smudges so I'm not sure if it's safe on paint or not. I started using the blue masking tape years ago and haven't had any problem so far of it leaving residue.

John: wow, the C-124 looks awesome! Are you going to do it in natural metal? Looks like a hard build but a real attention getter when she's done. SuperScale International (the decal guys) make a product called Krystal Kleer for windows. The stuff looks like a white glue like Elmer's in the bottle but while white glue dries with a milky translucent look the Kleer dries to a perfect clear transparent window. I'd just chuck the porthole windows in the plane's flanks and use the Kleer if I were you. Testor's Model Master makes a simular product as well but I've never used it. Not sure if you have it where you live but I'm sure someone makes something like it though. 

I tried windowlean window cleaner ,acrylic thinner and even very hot water to get the glue stains off the canopy with no luck, I even tried to put new tape on and yank it off.The only thing I could do was to use toothpaste and lots of effort to basically pollish the stuff off and it worked just fine. A bonus is that the F-86 now smells Minty-fresh!

I just need to make a base and hope to post some pix tomorrow.

Gamera, Thanks for the kind words.  I am looking forward to seeing it finished too   Squadron has that kit on sale this month.  I may have to buy a few more.  It is a great little kit IMHO.

Helo, thanks for the reply.  From the pics of other helicopters it seems like most have green upper windows anyway.  You probably tinted them out of habit.  I didn't want to undermind your builds.  Thanks again for the info.  The C-124 looks sweet BTW.

No worries Kevin , I'm still glad you mentioned about the canopy tint , the HRS-2 and other H-19's will look better without any green tint .

Gamera , I was going to use some Tamiya AS-12 Bare Metal Silver 'rattle cans' on the C-124 , I stocked up on 18 cans along with 3 Model master Aluminum Plate and 1 Chrome for all the larger Transport builds...

Probably not the best metal finish compared to the buffing metalizer paints you can airbrush but I was happy with the two P-51D 's I built with the Tamiya rattle can bare metal finish , so I went and bought some more cans for the other builds .

Ill post some progress photos tonight to prove that i am actually doing something lol. Ive been slightly distracted with my F-100 for the NMF2 build, my golden scooter (TA-4K) and a 72nd Bell X-1 for the rocket power build. (It feels more like 144th scale)

My progress so far has got my corsair up on its feet. And decals are going on steadily. As i mentioned before im doing it as 303F, same markings as Helo's 302S. Just putting gear doors on and sorting out aerials (the fiddly bits).

Question. How long did the smaller markings (no step, fill here etc) last on a combat aircraft?

It is painted in the collours of #2 sqn of the SAAF in Korea 1953.

One of the local on-line hobby stores I order kits from regularly had some in stock , I searched around their site and couldn't find any at first , so I sent them an email enquiring about the Micro Krystel Kleer , apparently it was listed under the BMF products , I take it that's Bare Metal Foil ? . Anyway there's some on the way so that will help a lot . The C-124 was suppose to be put away for christmas but I can't help looking at her , maybe I'll swap the Amodel 1/72 Mi-10K  Russian Helicopter from the stash and wrap her up for christmas instead .

Theuns, the sabre came out great!  It looks great in the sunlight.  I'm glad it all worked out for you.

John, the C-124 is impressive!  My local shop is always out of AS-12, so yes it must be pretty good.  I like Tamiya spray cans too.  They are the only brand that I like.  Testors comes out too heavy.

I haven't managed to get past the primer stage on my mustangs.  Hopefully soon.

Yeah!  A Corsair!  Looking good Mike.  The NF Mossie in the background is pretty cool too.  I like your WIPs too.  Sorry to hear about your black widow being a earthquake casualty.  San Antonio may be very, VERY, boring, but thankfully, we never get earthquakes, almost never severe weather, and pretty sure any meteors heading for earth won't hit here either.

Stik, our illustrious leader, are we going to have a finished page or a badge?  Or did I miss something?  Not trying to be pushy, just curious.  This was the first GB I have finished.  I did just finish my second (phantom) too. Yay me.

Gamera, you are one lucky guy.  I am jealous.  I love the Florida panhandle!  It has been awhile since I've been through there.  I love the Alabama, the US Navy Aviation Museum, and the USAF Armament Museum.  I grew up in the Tampa Bay area, and my Dad used to take me up there almost every summer.  I've got some cool pics somewhere of me in super stylish '70s striped tube socks manning a 20mm on the 'Bama.  I hope you have a great and safe vacation!

Greg, early on I had asked for assistance in creating the badge. Due to my limited computer skills (and the programs on the primary beast I use here) I don't have the ability to do a proper badge. One gentleman said he would help, but then this sort of fell thru the cracks. Anyone here who can take my basic design here and build a proper GB Badge for us?

BTW, the kits are all coming along well. Nice Sabre and Corsair! More pics of both please!

Oh yeah, we had an earthquake here this morning, actually just a few miles from my home.. must not have been  too impressive because I did not even feel it, even though I was wide awake...

Greg, I've been to Florida before but this is my first trip to the panhandle. I've got a week and half vacation so I'm hoping to get to see all the cool stuff you've listed as well as see the Blue Angels practice. One of the few nice things about being single is I can take a vacation to see 'a bunch of old planes and ships' without any complaints!

Gee I bet Tampa was hot and humid in the summer!  The weather guys are calling for tempatures between 75-80F / 24-25C and mostly sunny so it should be nice and comfy Going to spend some time in the motel sitting on the balcony too so I can smell the salt air and hear the surf while reading and I'm taking some armour kits to clean the roadwheels up if I should get bored.

Stik, glad you are okay.  That has to be an uneasy feeling regardless.  I wasn't trying to complain about the badge.  I like what you did.  Is it okay that I'm using it?  I have been trying to figure out a badge myself for the NF GB.  I think DoogsATX saved me though!  I was trying to make a badge of squadron badges.  Not doing so hot so far. 

I have to say, this has been my favorite GB so far.  I appreciate you starting and running it Stik.

Well , at the risk of embarrassing myself with another addition to the Korean War GB , I was wondering if this kit would suit a post korean War era aircraft ....

According to Squadrons book , prior to deploying to Vietnam , two NC/AC-123K aircraft were sent to Osan Air Base , South Korea to be evalulated against the high speed infiltration boats used by North Korea to send agents into South Korea . They operated from 19 August to 23 October 1968 and completed 57 missions .

I am in the process of trying to finish two previously started Mach 2 , C-123 providers , one for the USCG and the other for [CIA] Air America ...

Anyway I thought this aircraft might make an interesting addition , she only had a short operating time span but never the less did conduct flights against the North Koreans.... So what do ya think !!!

Helo, as far as the Provider goes, i will give it a pass. The guidelines are for Korean War subjects (any and all), and anything currently in service there today ROK, NKPA, or US. Current US stuff has to be marked as it is in Korea or adjoining areas such as Japan, Okinawa, etc. I would even consider some JSDF stuff that could potentially fight if the balloon were to go up there again.
