Posted by Scorpiomikey on Thursday, July 15, 2010 4:12 PM

Calling all grumman cat lovers. This ones for you.

A Group Build based around all grumman cats (a full list will follow at the end of the post)

The rules.

1. Build must be of a grumman cat (full list to follow)

2. WIP shots appreciated but not always necessary, as long as you post your progress your good.

3. Whatifs, racers, military, historic, modifieds, all welcome as long as the basic airframe stays the same.

4. I command you to have fun lol.

As this build wont be starting for a long time yet (5 months) this thread may get lost or forgotten about, So register your interest and when the start date comes around ill send a PM to everyone to let them know.

If theres anything ive forgotten let me know and ill adjust it. Badge comes later, watch this post for updates and additions.

Please Note Start Date Update. September 2010

New end date too. End September 2011

Ok so apparently i promised a list of grumman cats and forgot to deliver (my bad) so here it is

F4F Wildcat

F6F Hellcat

F7F Tigercat

F8F Bearcat

F9F Panther

F9F Cougar

F11F/F-11 Tiger

F-14 Tomcat

Will also accept the Grumman G-164 Ag Cat. Its not officially classed as a grumman cat but its still named for a cat and its a grumman, therefore its allowed

And heres the long awaited GB badge. Thanks heaps to Kermit for this one. Cheers buddy

Please save it and upload it to your own image hosting account. This is available when you finish your first build.

Mike; It's a long way off, but I'm wanting to do an AMT Tiger Cat.  If I get going good I'd probably try something else too.  Nice idea for a build, thanks.  Rick.

I have quite a few Grumman cats in the stash, January is a long way off though so I'll wait until then before picking one (if I choose one now it I will have an overwhelming desire to build it immediately Confused ).

Scorpiomikey (Interesting..I'm Mike...and a Scorpio to boot..)  If I do a Hellcat it'll be one of the Eduard 1/48 offerings. Just not too sure of the variant yet.  I have a Hobbyboss 1/48 F4F-3 as well.  Not sure about that one yet though.  I've also got Monogram's F9F in 1/48.

If we start the build in September, would it still go til July?

Sorry Scorpiomikey, both kits I plan on building are 1/48 scale.  I will use some aftermarket goodies for both too.

Hi Scorp ,

Dang John, you have a lot of cool kits in your stash.  After the Korea build, I think I'm going to come over here.  Regardless, I will be checking in to see your pair of cool cats.

Looking at the start page, it is amazing how many awesome planes grumman has build.  There isn't a single plane here that doesn't capture my interest and imagination.  Great GB idea Mikey.

Cheers,

Greg

Mikey, I would like to join in on the fun.  I won't be able to start for a while, but what I picked, I'm sure I can finish.  Please put me down for a Hasegawa A-6E in 1/72 scale.  Unsure of AM for kit???  I don't know if anybody makes anything for it.  It will be a Marines VMA (AW) 332 bird.

Cheers,

Greg

Hi Greg , I was rally lucky to get the Hasegawa Couger and Tiger combo kit , they don't come around very often .

I've only built a few Grumman Birds so far , a couple of Tomcats , two Intruders and some Prowlers .

The EA-6B Prowler is my favourite modern jet and I recently picked up Wolfpacks 1/72 wing fold set for the Prowler along with E-2C wing fold set as well . I was about to nominate the Prowler with folding wings for this Group Build when I realized it was for Grumman ''Cats'' .

So I went through the Grumman Stash to find something else appropiate .

Hasegawa give you a choice of two different markings for the F9F-8 Couger and the F11F-1 Tiger ...

I like the markings for a VF-13 Couger and You can't really go past a nice ''toothy'' grin for the Tiger .

Ooops, my bad!  I didn't read the fine print.  I was thinking Grummans in general.  I have a lot of cats, so I'll have to figure out something else.  I guess I was just excited to build my A-6.  I got it last month for only $5.

John, those are some awesome Grummans!  The Intruders and Prowlers especially!  I've never seen anybody model the short lived test green.  I actually thought about building a phantom in that scheme.  Sweet builds though, I love the playboys scheme.  Gotta try and build one of those.

Cheers,

Greg

I was the same as you Greg and got really excited when I saw the word Grumman . I grabbed one of the prowler kits and the Wolfpack wing fold set and took a photo to post on Mikey's thread . When I also read the fine print and saw the word "Cats".

Perhaps if we finish a "Cat" first , Mikey will let us add our favourite Grumman Aircraft next . When you think about it , Intruder's and Prowler's aren't that far off from being "Cats" themselves ; Cats like to prowl around and intrude into the neighbours yard ;

Here's a pic of my second choice build if allowed...

I have some nice Superscale decals I would like to use , VMAQ-1 "Banshees"

That is nice!  I would really like to see that built up.  That Wolfpack set looks good, and I like your choice of decals.  If disallowed, maybe we should have a "the other Grummans GB".....

Cheers,
