Hello everyone!
I have been mad at it this morning and this Revell kit goes together in a very strange way!! At the moment I am putting together the office and other sub-assemblies. I am also still cleaning up the flying surfaces, which is very mundane, but its all getting there slowly.
More pics soon!
Can't wait to see pics, Tango!
Before strapping it to the fuselage, can you take a pic or 2 of the completed office for me? I'm trying to detail my 1/144th cockpit, but surprisingly, reference on "F" hornet cockpits is scarce (on the net) Revell kits usually have good cockpits, I'll base it off of yours. Thanks! And Now, for MMSI in October, I have my mind set to finish 3 models. One of them is the hornet, so expect frequent updates! Wahoo!
Boba,
perhaps these pics may help?

CHEERS!
oh yeah! Thanks Tango!
Got more done. On the suggestion from someone over at LSP I went with my original plan and painted the IP all black, and picked out the details again. If you look closely the port wing is a little warped. Since this will never sit on a judges table, I'm going to let it go.
I also dirtied up the nose gear bay a little more.
Thanks for looking. As always, any comments or suggestions are welcome.
Regards,
Jeff
Awesome!!! Is the radar screen a decal or hand-painted?looks pretty sweet. I might try to texture the cushion on the ejection seat a little, stipple a slightly darker shade of the color on there to give it a "furry" appearance. It would be an eye-catching addition. Just a thought though. Can't wait to see more!
Not a bad idea about the seat, Boba. I may give that a go. The radar screens are decals and I really like them. Glad you do too.
Great pics Darren, thanks for sharing those!
Jeff- MUCH better with the IP black, well done! I can't believe how fast this one is going together, especially in 1/32!
Came across this scheme today while looking for reference pics, any one want to have a go at this scheme? Not me!
Super Hornet
Frank
WOW great progress guys!!!! Frank, who in their right mind would do a scheme like that???!!! Dunno but I hope somebody doesn't have a right mind!!! That would be cool!!!
Thats a cool scheme Frank It would take an absolute age to mask up though!!!!!
Thanks, fellas.
Frank, the reason this one is humming along so far is because I am doing it straight OOB so I'm not getting bogged down with a bunch of details. I told myself that I would do at least a little something everyday to keep me on track so to speak. Thanks again.
I got around to putting most of the paint on my Fighting Omars bird. I only have the tip of the nose and the exhaust left to paint.
I used Mr. Color for the lightest color and Tamiya acrylics for the rest. Here it is with only paint, no decals yet:

Looking good so far, Jon. Can't wait to see it a decaled up.
firesmacker Looking good so far, Jon. Can't wait to see it a decaled up.
Excellent work Jon, great paint job!
Unfortunately, I havn't had much time for building my hornet. However, I'm looking at my decal options.
This is the plane I want to build.
These are my decals. Any suggestions?
Not entirely sure what your question is. You've shown a picture of the aircraft and what appear to be the decals for that aircraft. What suggestions are you looking for? Perhaps if you clarified what you need?
Building Now:
1/48 Academy Bf-109G6 - 100%
1/48 Tamiya F4U-1A - 5%
Upcoming:
1/48 Revell F-14D
Graham,
You're in luck! Fightertown decals makes a 1/144 sheet for that exact aircraft...
Victory 200
Enjoy!
Still rolling along:
I think I'm going to spend the next few sessions on the ordnance. Thanks for looking. As always, any comments or suggestions are welcome.
sorry arki. I was posting in 3 different threads and I didn;t explain myself. Thanks Frank! That is insanely helpful! 1 thing though, how do I get the "S" decal? The fightertown sheet has an "E." Thoughts on that? Thaks. Looking good, Jeff!
Ah, got it. The devil is in the details. The aircraft number is different on your sheet from what you want to build.
Great work guys one and all Man i want to get going on mine but i have to finish my 190 first...
OK, the 'fuse and all the wings are done. I guess I have to quit stalling and get started on the ordnance Man, I hate doing ordnance. And drop tanks. If I could find resin ordnance and drop tanks, I would spend the money and call it money well spent.
Anyway, here she is so far:
I changed the flaps because it looked weird and I couldn't find a single reference that showed the inner ones down and the outer ones up. I'm really liking these 1/32 kits. The fiddly bits ain't so damn fiddly.
Graham- Hmmm... not sure on that one! Do you have any other decal sheets that might have an "S" you could use? For example, cutting the "S" from a 1/72 or 1/48 "USAF" decal? Just a thought...
Great stuff there Jeff! I know what you mean, sad that the AM companies produce 500 versions of the same 109 or P-51 cockpit, yet there are almost zero AM large scale ordnance sets. AAARRRGGGHHH!
I dunno... my spare decals are rather limited. I think I'm going to have to mask and paint it. I don't think It'll be ready for MMSI (next week) so I'll take it a bit slower. I also can't afford the decals right now, I just spent $17 to get some decals for my MH-60. But thaqt gives me more time to perfect the office. No pics as of right now, but I'm having issues with the cockpit fit to the upper fuselage. The front seat and panel is the culprit. So I think I'm going to thin the parts and make a new panel which fits properly. I'm also tackling the figures... My current solution is to use the 1/144th figgies in he "take off" set as referance, make wire aramatures, and "sculpt" them out of gap-filling superglue. Not perfect, but I can make them look better with paint. I'll get some pics soon.
While I'm not quite ready to start yet, I'll go ahead and post what I'll be building.
1/48 Hasegawa F/A-18C
Black Magic canopy and wheel mask
Eduard PE placards
Aires resin cockpit
Royale Resin wheels
Wolfpak late F/A-18C update set
TwoBobs decals, VFA-83 Rampagers CAG
I've had this kit for years now, slowly picking up the AM pieces. This particular bird is a late F/A-18C based on TwoBobs info and independent research I've completed. Most of the differences are in antenna, but there are some cockpit changes. While some could be scratched, the Wolfpak set takes care of these as well as providing a IFR probe for display in the open position. Which I think looks quite cool.
I suspect I'll start late Nov. - early Dec.
Cheers!
Wow, that's a lotta AM stuff there! This ought to be a good one to watch for certain!
I don't think I have ever seen Arki build Straight out of box.
Gee, Jeff is sure building fast! Nice work. I probably won't be able to start until late December, but I will hang around.
Andrew
raptordriver I don't think I have ever seen Arki build Straight out of box.
It happens...occasionally.
Hello Chaps!
This Revell Superbug is not the best fiting kit I've ever carved up and put back together again, but I am making progress.........of sorts!
Here's the skinny:
I now have the basic fuselage built.
It has terrible gaps which need attention!
Lots of gentle sanding required to protect the details.........
Here's the office, not finished yet, but you get the idea.
I also got the intakes installed......a real PIA job-thanks Revell!!

I am still sorting out the wings............not good.
