I hear all these horror stories about the Monogram P-61, but I built it as a kid and don't recall any major problems. I don't think it is just time passage either because I still remember several kits that gave me problems. Maybe its just a defense mechanism and my brain doesn't want to remember.

We tend to remember our childhoods through rose-colored filters...I can barely remember the beatings my father doled out to me...they weren't as bad as the fit of the P-61, however...

Lol i noticed that. Hmmm, i wonder if va-196 and VMA-332 ever flew together? If so i wont have to buy after market decals.

Yes, they would carry EA.  They were MR until they transitioned into the Intruder and they've been EA since, even on the F/A-18 Hornets.  Funny thing, before they were the moonlighters, they were the polka dots.  Looking at Korean War Corsairs, they had a ring of polka dots around the cowling.  That is the scheme in the current Revell F4U-4B (the old Monogram kit).  Useless trivia, yes I know.  I think I read too many Corsair books during the course of the Korean War GB!

Cheers,

Greg

Erm, kinda, so all VMA-332 A-6's would be EA?

Hey Mike, the tail codes are squadron specific.  Such as WF is the tail code for VMF-513, WS is VMF 323 etc.  Sometimes in the modern era, they assign the senior squadron embarked on a ship's tail code to all the squadrons embarked.  That way, sometimes Harriers might carry a CH-46 squadron's code.  I hope that helps.

Cheers,

Greg

Hey guys, random question, what do the letters on the tails of marine aircraft mean? Is it to do with the ship they based on?

Thanks for the warning Manny. Guess I'll change I'll built it to I'll START it. She may end up turning into an American kamikaze before it's all said and done. Whistling

Gamera

Sad to hear it's not that good a kit. Still I bought it and I intend to build it. She can't be worst than some of the limited run stuff like Classic Airframes I've built.

Yes, she can...Dead...

Trey, those are beautiful!  I have both of those kits in my stash.  Very impressive.  I am itching to get an Eduard Bf-110G-4 myself.  I have a C model and the decals to make a RA Italian AF nightfighter that I need to build first though.

Lewbud, welcome aboard!

Cheers,

Greg

It's looking a little dry outside so I'll bring the RAIN!  Put me down for a Specter or Puff (leaning towards the Minicraft AC-130A as I've built the H already).  Since it takes Frank a year to do a four bladed prop, how long will it take him to do all those turbine blades?

Eduard has two boxings of the NF version...one is a weekend edition which is cheaper but has less "goodies" in the box and only one marking option...the more expensive one has all the bells and whistles and 5-6 marking options...I have several of these kits and they just can't get any better, IMO...there is no point for any other company to make a 110 NF in quarter scale, period...

Hey greg, wee small corection, its a tamiya intruder, not italeri.

Ooops! My bad.

Travis, welcome aboard.  I look forward to seeing your build.  I have had my eye on that kit, and wondering what was in the box.

Cheers,

Gregbbear- Can I still join this GB?? If so I would like to add a 1/72 Bf-110 by Italeri. I will probably have some AM stuff added. Will keep you posted.

Interesting... I didn't know Hase put one out.  Amazing that it is in 1/72!

The P-61 is great too!  My builds absolutely pale in comparison.  That gives me inspiration to learn and get better.  Thanks.  I am thinking about getting a Revell P-61, and giving it a try.  If I go into a kit knowing it will be less than stellar, I like it better than buying a high dollar kit, and it being a dog.  Plus, I tend to test fit more with a "cheapy" kit.

Cheers,

Greg

I built a P-61 once, unfortunately it was a victim of the sept 4th earthquake (one of the aftershocks anyway) Its first flight was its last. (Bit like the MAAM one lol) Love the aircraft, hated the model. Drove me insane.

Eric, another fantastic build!  I am really liking your Fw-190.  Although I have seen conversion kits for it, I have yet to see anybody build one.  Real nice.  What do you think of the Promodeller Ta-154?

Cheers,

Greg

Thanks, I've got 2 110 NF's that I have no pics of that I'll try to post sometime...that 190 is actually 72nd scale--the Hasegawa offering and it comes in that version w/ the decals you see...

Never have owned the 154 kit although I looked for one a while back to buy--Dragon used to offer it in quarter scale but they seem to be hard to find...I'm guessing it is a decent kit...I wonder if the mould is the same?

Here's the old Monogram Black Widow---maybe the worst kit I've EVER built:

Doog, I really like that a lot.  Good work.

Frank, I love the A-6E  idea.  Very good story behind it.  When I finish this post, I'll get you and Mike changed out on the list.

Gamera, great looking Gekko!  The snowy background is pretty cool too.

I am really enjoying the enthusiasm for this GB, and we haven't even officially started yet!

Eric, I have seen the diving eagle, and even the owl sitting on the moon.  Both are nice, my copies are just too small to do anything with.

As for me, I need to order some p.e. radar aerials from Owl for my P-70.  I'm thinking about getting some True Details wheels, and seat belts too.  That will probably be the extent of the AM I will be using.  If I hurry up and finish a few other builds, I will start with something in addition to the P-70.  So many choices, it will be hard to pick.

Cheers,

Greg

Took a stab at a badge. Nothing fancy - I'm solid with photoshop for retouching, but not for design work.

Frank,  that's cool that you've been wearing that thing all these years.  My hat's off to you sir for your dedication to our vets.  Can't wait to see what you do with his aircraft.  I  know it's going to be a good one.

Manny, Fair enough.  I misinterpreted your intent and took offense where none was given.

Gamera, love the Gekko.  A friend of mine built the same kit and had a heck of a time with it.  Yours looks like it came out beautifully.
