Great looking builds everyone! I started work on the Testors 1/72 F-117. I primed and painted the wheel wells (which are rediculously small!) and he bomb bay! I finished the "office" added a Quickboost Ejection seat. One thing about this kit is that the Side cockpit switches are completely absent! I added some grey "dots" with a toothpick. I used Hasegawa's GBU-10's for this kits as the kit ones weren't as nice and I have a ton of weapons sets! Here are the pics:

Kg4kpg oh yes I like it a bunch looks worlds better than the one I built years ago, course mine was a single seater. The figures really add to the looks of the kit and  being a two seater makes it really stand out. Very well done indeed sir. Toast

Nice looking bird,kg. I like the hint of the SR-71 in the cockpit area and the nose but it's quite small and compact.

Great to see another completed build! Smile I'll update the front page with your completion.

Cheers

I am not very proud of this kit, but it did teach me a lot. My putting skills have improved due to the large gaps on the intakes. I have learned to use blue tape for masking due to an issue with liquid mask on another kit. I am happy with the cockpit, my dry bushing skills have improved. There where some fit issues with the landing gear and exhaust. The decals where my downfall. They broke and left a milky tan film around the edges, due to picking up the backing of the paper with the decal. I have been collecting kits for years but I have not built many of them so I wrack this one up as learning experience.

This kit is about looks good about fifty foot away. LOL

Yeah Vetteman, I know what you mean. I've got a Dornier 335 in my stash that I'm holding off on until the Way Too Many Props GB next month. I have opened the box and stroked the sprues many times...

Casper,

I used a toothpick on the for the instruments and an optical visor. Why do we make ourselves half blind on things we won't or can barely see when everthing is closed up?Confused

The Panda probably difficult to come by these days. My 12 year old spied it on a vendor table at a model contest and I snapped it up. The 1/72 Fujimi is probably more accurate and better detailed. I'm sure excellent 1/48 kits are not far behind.

model geek, tré superbé!

Great pit, beautifully neat instruments. Do you paint with a toothpick or something similar?

After a night online I found I can't get a Panda F-35 1/48 in Australia so I have ordered the 1/72 Fujimi version. They have just released a limited edition with PE cockpit and exhaust/stovl details.

Damn, it's just too easy to 'buy this' and stick it onto Paypal! Bang Head

Cheers

Hello all,

A long overdue update on the 1/48 Panda F-35. But before I get to that let begin by saying great work so far everyone!

Casper, the SR-71 is top notch, especially the cockpitYes

P38 - The HO-229 turned out great. I love all the German jets as well as their paper projects. That one is on my list to build.

Steven, Nice work so far on the F-19. I remember when that kit first came out and it really fired up the imagination.

So on the the F-35. The kit is Panda's (out of business) 1/48 scale. From whar I've read it not accurate in shape or size but it looks good to me and for $15 I couldn't pass it up.

The kits is cleanly molded and from what I've read fits very well. The cockpit is very basis so I purchased a Eduard resin F-22 ejection seat.

Otherwise I plan to build the kit out of the box. In addition to the resin seat I took a screen shot of a mock up of the F-35 instrument panel, resized it, and glued to the kit IP.

I had to add some shims for the duct doors so they would fit flush with the fuselage.

That's all for now from the chilly Great Lakes.

After a bit of trawling for good prices on the webs and I've decided to splash out for the Tamiya 1/48 F 117A and the matching CMK detail set with cockpit, wheel bay, landing gear, canopy details etc.

Looks like it should be a great kit with all the extra details.

Cheers

Ok, I'm calling the SR-71 done!

Overall pretty happy with this kit despite its age and flaws. The AM definitely lifted the build.

I think the stressing of the paintwork turned out ok.

A flat coat has helped tone down the overall sheen to the bird;

I am really happy with the way it looks. The decals conformed nicely to the panel lines and especially the cross ridges on the wings. Next I will 'dot filter' with lightish grays, purple, brown rust and dark blues to help simulate the stressed metal look on the original bird. Apparently the plane can stretch by as much as half a foot when at Mach 2+ speeds. This should also helps the decals blend in better to the paint scheme.

Just to finish up with a couple of shots, I am really proud of the way the cockpit turned out (yay TD!) and also I think I got inside the exhausts just right as well.

Cheers

Nice one, kg. I didn't bother with weights in the SR-71 as the front wheel is set far enough back from the nose. It's about the length of my 1/48 Zero back actually. Big bird!

Cockpit looks sweet, were they the kit seats or an AM?

Okay, cockpits are done but I had to use two different seats.  The rear just didn't have enough room for a matching seat.  With the WSO in there it doesn't show so much anyway.  I put some weights in the nose even though I don't think it wil need it, and glued the tail pipes in place.  Should be a quick finish now.

Here's some WIP's for you.

Okay, got some early cockpit work done.  I used the kit pit for the front and a rear seat from an old Revell F-14 pit for the WSO.  May not fit the technology invisioned for the plane but it was all I had in the spares box.  The only problem I'm having now is a bang seat for the rear as the wheel well makes it very shallow.  I'll just trim most of the bottom off of the seat I use.  Won't show anyway.  For the canopy I masked the frame, drilled out holes all the way around then connected the dots with a #11 blade.  Added a few dots to my fingers and blood drops to the frame as well. :D  I still have to clean it up a little then figure out how to glass it in without tons of clear glue showing in the end.  I have some good, clear plastic to cut for it.
