Welcome aboard Terry!

I've updated everyone on the roster...as you settle on kits or decide to switch things around, let me know and I'll keep the front page clear as best I can!

Only a little over a month until kickoff! I know I'm looking forward to it!

Doogs, I would like to include the Academy P-38F I,ve got going for the Lightning GB. Since your going with the Oriole decals from the kit , I've been looking into some alternate markings. I will be going with either South Pacific or North Africa theaters. Either way , the birds got pretty faded and dirty in those places and I going with my first foray into weathering pigments, so it should be interesting.

I also have a parts box local dirt track stock car I started some years ago ,then shelved. That would make for a good weathering subject too,but not sure if I can work it in right now.

Sounds good Howard - I'll get it added!

Also - please don't steer clear of Oriole on my account...

Not to worry, I was already looking at  either Miss Virgina or McGuire's 'Pudgy'.

I'm going to try and replicate the " removed tape" look  along the panel lines. Figuring up some ideas on how to do that . Experimenting with some various washes and colors on some scrap plastic . We'll see what I come up with.

Since this GB runs for a year, I should be able to work this in. Would make for a great weathering subject with lots of dirt, mud , dents, amd dings.

A kitbash/partsbox AMT 1/25 scale 72 Chevelle dirt track stock car of the kind one might see at the local Saturday night bullring. Here's pics of progress before it was shelved some years ago.

I plan on dressing it up with the Daddy1 racing theme I built my air racers to.

Hi, Doogs, sorry for taking so long to get back, I spent the last few days putting a LWS Lands-Wasser-Schlepper from Hobby boss together.

If you Dont Mind I would like to get into the prepping stage ASAP and will post here and in the Armour forum. Its a while since I got anything done and my God am I itching to start painting.

Bish, the 251-UHU in still on the shelf. I have all the parts and all the sub assemblies ready for another run.

I must say that the fit of certain AFV club parts was mildly offputting and annoying.

PM> inbound to you this evening.

THanks for aa chance to get fully back to the coal face.

Terry.

Go for it!

We technically have a February 1 start date, but I have zero problems with WIP posts going up ahead of time. Heck, I'll probably start tossing up some pics of my 109E-7 shortly. So far I've just been building what I can without painting anything (stupid gross drizzly weather!), and I'm rapidly running out of stuff to do.

Really?? Cool, I started on my Zero already, if you don't mind I might start posting. I literally had 5 kits on the go over Xmas. Moved house and internet only went up today. Amazing how bored one gets without the intertubes!

Ok Doogs to start WIP?

BTW Doogs, I'm expecting my Eduard 1/32 Bf 109E-3 in the post next week. As a lot of what I build gets heavily weathered (a good way to hide blemishes and mistakes) I am planning to do a workshop diorama of the Bf109 complete with work bench and tools, oil cart (received the Signifier 1/32 scale cart from France), bomb trolley, at least one brick wall, if not two, oil drums and Luftwaffe mechanic and his trusty dog!

I want it to look 'lived in' and heavily weathered so could you please add this to the roster as well? Hope dioramas are ok :)

Cheers

Doogs, if you got  room for one more, I'd really like in on this one - it's a great topic, and a very impressive roster to boot. My entry will be a Wingnut Wings 1/32 SE.5a.

Yep, no problem with kicking off the WIP. The only thing I'd ask is that you try to hold off the actual weathering work until the GB officially kicks off. But yeah, no issues with getting it right up to that point!

casper, ruddratt and pepper - your builds have been updated in the roster. This is shaping up to be one heck of a GB, I think!

Sucked it up and ordered a few more Promodeller washes from SB yesterday...light dirt and sand to play with on the 109...

Well I may be 3 and a half weeks early but looks like I'm the first with WIP.

I got this kit late last year on a review and as soon as I opened the box I knew I had to start right away. It was torture waiting this long...

Details on the sprue are really nice, absolutely NO flashing at all that I have found and all the connection points on the sprue are really thought about leaving little or no visible cleanup bits when cut off.

Very easy to airbrush on the sprue...

I also got the matching Detail Up set that has some really nice harnesses, guns and pitot. I have never seen such a detailed cockpit in 1/48 as this. And it pretty much built itself it was that easy.

Even the walls are chockers with detail.

I am waiting for my Micromark hole punch to arrive in the post as the instrument decals come in four pieces each one joining between 2-5 dials. I think it will look better if I punch out each dial individually. Now to find some "Pledge One Go" (the Australian Future alternative) so I can simulate the dial glass.

Cheers

I think I know what I'm going to do for this build.

I have an HO scale Bachmenn RTR model of a C40-8W that I've had on a shelf for a while (unweathered) If it will work for this GB, I would like to include it (I will have to re-build it so I can lubricate the gears and re-detail it. Afterwards, I'll be weathering it, and hopefully make it look like it's prototype)

Ok, the postie left a Micromark hole punch in my letter box this morning.

Gotta say, I have probably herniated my eyeballs from the fiddly work and minuscule decals are the WORST to manipulate but with a bit of patience the results speak for themselves!

I think that I'd like to join this build.  I currently have a 1/48 Hasegawa Hellcat F6F-3 that I've been working on.  I just finished applying the decals but want to try my hand at giving it the faded, war weary look of a WWII Pacific fighter.

The mail has been kind to me today. Got my Lucky Models order (highly recommended from HK) containing an Eduard 1/32 Bf-109E-3 containing resin, masks, coloured and natural PE with 7 different markings.

This is going to be my 2nd entry to this GB.  I have already read the instruction book (have you read your for the Trop yet Doogs?) and am drooling...

Casper - that Zero pit looks fantastic! Out of curiosity, what technique did you use for the rust/corrosion?

I've done more than just look through the 109's manual - pics in a minute!

redraider - you're P-40's on the list! Is that the "South Pacific Aces" one with Stardust and Texas Longhorn among the markings? Got one of those in my stash as well...looks like a fantastic kit!

Railfan - you're added as well. You may want to check to make sure I got the info right - I'm a dummy when it comes to rail stuff.

sanderson - your Hellcat's been added as well! Welcome aboard!

So, the dog's destruction of my Academy P-38 opened up a hole on my bench, and we've been having rain every few days, which has been delaying my other projects, so I went ahead and pulled out Eduard's 1/32 Bf-109E-7 Trop.

Overall, the kit's detail level is impressive. Very crisp and subtle surface detail. Some flash, but nothing a few swipes of a sanding stick can't deal with. The canopy glass is thin and crystal clear, and the included PE looks great. The instrument panel is a standout, and I can't wait to get it installed!

The kit's guns are mildly disappointing, so I'm replacing them with brass from Master...

I started building this kit "dry", but quickly ran into places where I had to prime and paint before I could move forward. Mainly due to colored PE, or to areas that would be inaccessible or difficult to paint after assembly (intakes, gear bays...).

So far, fit is kind of a mixed bag. A good number of the cockpit doo-dads have very vague fit, but then the cockpit floor and front bulkhead have pretty much foolproof location thanks to the way the kit's been designed.

The fuselage seems like it should fit together without any massive problems, but it's going to require a lot of tape and slow going. There are a few locator pins, but they're so tiny that they may as well not be there. And the front of the ship is rather fragile and bendy due to the absence of the full cowl.

I really like the way the Trop filter is done. The combination of plastic and PE should work really well to give a sense of depth.

Since I'm planning to use the Master guns, I'm going to actually paint the center portion of the cowl FIRST, then install the painted guns and just mask that portion ahead of main painting.

One question for those of you who might know things about the 109 - what are those holes in the front of the cowl piece? I find it ludicrous that there's be just open holes looking into the engine on a Tropified 109 - should there be mesh there?
