Weathering GB - 2/1/2011 - 1/31/2012
Posted by DoogsATX on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 3:36 PM

So now that I'm ensnared in several group builds, I figured I'd go ahead and take a pass at hosting my own! My original thought was a Yellow Wings GB - and that may happen down the road - but I've found myself gleaning a lot of great knowledge out of the technique-based GBs, so I figured I'd go that direction.

Thus the Weathering Group Build.

The goal of this GB is pretty simple - to build our weathering skills, experiment with new techniques, and have a good time. Dents, dings, streaks, stains, burns, fading, chipping, dust, rust, you name it...if it's caused by the elements, it's welcome!

This group's open to all genres, all scales. Crossovers and partially started builds are totally acceptable.

The rules are simple. First, no factory finishes. Second, provide WIP pics and details of your weathering process! We're all here to learn, after all!

The GB will kick off on February 1, 2011, and wrap up on January 31, 2012, so feel free to sign up for multiple builds. The more the merrier!

Here's the badge for this GB. Please "save as", upload to the photo sharing site of your preference, and display it whenever you want. I'm not one of those sticklers for "no badges until completion".

Seeing as crossovers are allowed, i am not really adding a new GB. So, put me down for the academy 1/72nd B-17F that i am doing for my mighty 8th GB and a 1/35th Dragon 251/6 that i am doing for the Ostwind GB. The 251 will be my first single colour armour build since i learnt how to apply washers, so could be interesting.

Beshides, seeing as you were kind enough to join my first GB as host, seems only right to return the favour.

I could probably squeeze a build in  during that time frame. Put me down, please. I don't know what kit I'll chose yet.

Bish - consider yourself signed on!

Scorpiomikey - I'll put you down for a Fw-190 to be named later!

oddmanrush and OWL - Done!

Also remember - crossovers are allowed, and there's no need to detail the entire build here if you don't want - just the weathering portions. So feel free to do what Bish is doing and sign up existing GB commitments!

You just beat me to it. I was then going to ask if you wanted the whole build or just the weathering portion. Also, add my 1/72nd Academy Ju 87G-1 thats alos for the Ostwind GB. I am doing this with the engine panels off, so that will be something new for me to weather/dirty up.

You can certainly do the whole build if you want. Or you could go in assemblies. So drop in for the cockpit/interior detailing and weathering, then drop back in later for the painting, then back again for washes and chipping and the like.

if we are only showing the weathering steps...does that allow for builds to start before start date?  Just a little more clarification, if you will.

Yes.

Depending on where I'm at, I may be starting my Corsair ahead of time. But it's going to be in for one hell of a beating when it comes time to weather it!

May just sign up for this one. The dates are good for my schedule, also with contests in may it will force me to build something  close to OOB n' git R done!

I have a DML Jagpanther in 1/35 scale that I wanted to model knocked out of action. That will require some weathering and some new techniques for me.

Ok I convinced myself, sign me up!

I'll probably put two kits in this build. One will be an old Revell FW 190 in 48th scale. If you're familiar with it, its one of the prepainted kits. I put it together when I was in high school. I will be dismantling it and rebuilding it as a wreck...so plenty of weathering to do there.

The other kit I'd like to do is Revell's 1/25 scale '41 Chevy Pickup. Autos are fun to weather and aren't often seen here so hopefully it'll be something different.

I have Tamiya's 1/48 Sd Kfz 250/3 'Greif' as used by Rommel. The thing is built, with the base colour down, and the weathering is quite complex, as I understand  it. As a consequence it's been waiting for about 18 months for me to go ahead and get it done.

This looks like the ideal trigger for me to jump into it.  Thanks for a great idea.

I'll post a pick of it's current status in the next day or two.

Cheers

Tony

Hi Everyone,

Here's a couple of pictures of the Sd Kfz 250/3 'Greif' that I will be coming back to when we kick this one off. The base grey shades are down, and it's marked to complete the camo pattern prior to commencing the extensive weathering.

No problem! In all honesty, I'll be announcing as I go, too.

I still have every intention of a yellow wing GB, but I probably won't kick it off until the second half of next year. Need to clear out some GB commitments first, and this one's much easier to crossover with!
