It's the recent 2008 issue. Beautifully detailed, haven't quite seen a cockpit in that scale as busy without AM. I also bought the Detail up set to compliment it. Don't really like decal harnesses!

Cheers

On the bench: A-4F 1/32 Hasegawa

Just deployed: F6F-5N Hellcat Nightfighter 1/48 Eduard

Up next: A6-E Intruder 1/48 Revell

Doogs, you're going to hate me man.....one final correction.  I decided to do a 1:32 Hasegawa Bf-109 G-6 in Hartmann's winter scheme.  I wanted to do a G-14, but since I have a G-6 in the stash, I decided to buy the decals (already ordered) and build what I have.  Yeah, some may say Hartmann never flew a winter G-6, but I like the way the plane looks, darn it!!!  Big Smile

Got it! At least until it changes again!

I may have to add my Eduard E-4 Trop...usually it seems like most the Trops I see are very clean. I want to change that.

This will be a good one for my B-25 (when/if I get around to it Tongue Tied).  The Pacific climate wreaked havoc on these birds so it should be a fun one.....it'll be a 1/48 Accurate Miniatures B-25D

As Owl said, it's short for Tropical, and denotes aircraft specially modified to sip mai tais while lazing about on pristine beaches...

Actually it was more like special filters to keep the engines from swallowing gallons of sand and dust.

Doogs, can i change my entry to

Dragon 1:32 P-51D-5-NA Frenesi 364th FS 357th FG 8th Airforce. Its a build for the 8th airforce GB which ill leave the weathering for this GB for. From what i can see from the 2 photos ive seen of this aircraft it wasnt much.

I was flipping through some books today and happened to stumble upon a picture of the B-25 I plan on building.  Pure luck, but nonetheless helpful.  Doesn't really show the weathering of the plane, but does point out a few mistakes in the directions for the kit.

Cool thing about this picture is that it was taken during a bomb run and the plane itself is skimming the treetops.  The foreground of this picture was cropped out, but showed Japanese running for cover in their 75mm gun emplacements.  Pretty cool stuff if you ask me.

Doogs,

I would like to hop into this one as well.  I have a 30% completed 1/48 Accurate Miniatures TBF/M that's been sitting idle for the better part of three years.  This GB is a good reason to finally move it to the "completed" column of my rather large "to do" list.  I will also do a 1/48 Tamiya Mitsubishi A6M5/5a (Zeke), the 2008 release that I've been dying to do as well.

DoogsATX I hope you wont mind but I thought I would share a trick I tried out on my latest build here. I realize it isn't an official entry but thought it might give some an idea or two.

I dry brushed using water colors on the bottom of my FW190 and thought it worked out fairly well, heres a picture.

I mixed some Black, white and burnt umber paste water color and thinned it just enough to make a runny paste kind of like pancake batter, then used low tack masking tape and placed it infront of the panel line I wanted to weather with the streak. I dipped the brush in the paste and wiped it on a paper towel just like you would do with normal dry brushing, then pulled it from the tape toward the rear of the wing. Thats basically what I did.

Randy So many to build.......So little time

Randy,

Like i said before, i really think your undersides look great. Never tried watercolors for drybrushing myself but i guess any kind of paint would do, some better than others. Never hurts to being handed over a tip or two for inspiration, right?Big Smile

Regarding this GB,

When i think of weathering i always can't help but think "WW2 German submarine" I really enjoyed the rusting up and weathering the 1:72 scale VIIC/42 i did for my own (anti-)submarine GB earlier this year. If i can get my bench cleared up and my mind set to maritime modelling again (and i probably will at some point) i would like to do some sort of type VII if you're ok with that DoogsSmile

Hi All:

I hope it's not too late to sign up and jump into this GB ?? ...

I have a 1/48 Accurate Minatures A-36, a Tamiya Panther tank and a 1/32 Hasegawa P-51  I'd like to build ... I've been doing jets for awhile, but would like to get back to my roots - things that aren't shiny :-) ...

I'll look into my stash for something else suitable  ...

Thanks,

pepper

Sign me up as well.  I have an old fishing boat that has been sitting in my stash for at least a half a decade.  Time to get-er-done!

Besides I was going to use it to learn how to do rust... good timing.

Randy - totally glad to see new techniques even ahead of kick-off time! I've got some plans for my P-38 WIP that I think I might share when I implement them. If they don't come out terrible!

The watercolor approach actually sounds a lot like a homemade version of Promodeller washes...very interesting...

Richard - by all means, a sub would be fantastic. Definitely a departure from the usual tracked and wingy things! But I think the way the staining works could be applicable across genres, too. Looking forward to it (and it being build in a week...)!

When you settle on the exact kit, just let me know and I'll update the roster with the specific info.

Not too late at all, pepper, welcome aboard! I've added your builds to the roster. Is that Tamiya Panther the 1/48 or 1/35?

I had the luck to score myself AM's A-36 and P-51A off eBay a few days ago...lots of weathering opportunities there. Depending on how my year goes I may be joining you with an Allison-engined pony of my own...

The Panther is 1/35 ... the A-36 will be finished as a bird from the CBI - they were weatherbeaten beyond belief and will be a good test vehicle for trying some different weathering ...

I also build/run model trains and have a ton of HO items in my shop ... I'll put together a kit or two, show them as brand new, out of the box, and then through the steps I take to weather them ...

I use tempera (poster paint) at times for weathering ... a drop or three into a small (very) cup, then lots of water ... use a 1/2" brush to slop it on and let it run down the sides of a car (or along panel lines of an airplane - for airplanes, I use a 1/8" brush) ... when done, I then gently wipre off the excess with a Q-tip or a dampend clean cotton rag ... makes for great weathering, exhaust stains, panel lines of ?? ...

I'm in for this one!  I love rust and heavy wethering.

I got no clue what I'm going to do, but I'll try to figure something out by the start date.
