Alright, my replacement "decal sandwich" seems to have worked. I applied the white + blue roundel two nights ago, let it sit & applied the smaller blue & red roundel over it last night. I'm sure you could see it close-up, but after I give it a quick spray of the gray filter, only I will ever know. (Well, and you guys too I suppose!) Pics with next update.

Bondoman - I think you can lower your "decal replacement alert status" now, thanks for the offer though!

The original mess...

The messy decal cleaned off, a little sanding to get a start, then flaked of with a sharp Xacto knife, a little fine-grit sanding, a dry-brush with the original colour, a spot of Future...

Hmmm - Harrier with blue & white roundel...

And with the smaller one in place. Some slicing & decal solvent will finish that off.

Overspray of the base colour is next up.

I'm just glad it worked. For the exhausts, I need to look at some more pics. Some I've seen with gray & "fins" in burnt metal; some are more burnt metal than gray. Maybe the ones that are gray are fresh from the factory and haven't burned off thetr paint yet???

Well that's a quick fix with a carefully-placed brush. (My lack of Harrier experience showing again!), it'll look more interesting anyway, adding something other than the base colour.

if you alreaddy passed a matt clear layer you can just drybrush it without paint it whole , in all cases the harrier already looks good Yes

Construction is just about finished (just have to review the Eduard PE instructions versus the Bison decal sheet paint scheme to see if I'm missing anything) with the exception of the tracks. Started in on the Friuls last night - these are one of the most fiddly sets I've ever used. Not to mention poorly cast? Good thing there are a lot of spare links, because I already tossed several of them.

Will post a pic before I fire any paint. Yes

From my understanding, the forward exhausts are usually the aircraft color as they duct "cool" air; the rear exhausts duct "hot" air and are usually in natural/burnt metal.

I know about the differents temperatures on nozzles nbuit with sea harrier search i not find one with no metal finish

It may not be much help, but I have checked several books I have with colour photos of the FRS 1, including World Air Power Journal Vol. 6-article on the Harrier series- and Falklands Air War by Chris Hobson.  There are examples of both Extra Dark Sea Grey and Medium Sea Grey with the front nozzles painted in the overall aircraft colour; there are also just as many that have these same nozzles in natural metal.  There does not seem to be any rhyme or reason as to why.  On p. 58 of Hobson's book, an FRS 1 of 809 SQN has its nozzles rotated 90 degrees down for a vertical takeoff on Ascension Island--the top of the nozzle  is 'metal' coloured and the lower part is in Medium Sea Grey-indicating a rush paint job with the nozzles pointed to the rear.  It may not be authoratative, but artwork in the May 2007 issue of Model Airplane International p40 shows XZ496/27 of 800 NAS with the forward port nozzle in MSG while the rest of the aircraft  (except the rudder as well!) in EDSG. Wish I could post the pictures, but not that advanced in computer equipment or skills!

Yes, I've seen photos both with and without paint on that set of nozzles, but haven't found a specific picture of "14" yet - there must be one out there somewhere!! I've got her sitting on the undercarriage now, installation of the gear-bay covers and final weathering shortly.

Found a picture of Black 14 on Modeldecal #66; it's pretty small and not too clear but nozzles appear same fuselage colour.  Also of interest, this aircraft returned to the UK with dark green gun pods taken from RAF stocks!  Model Aircraft magazine,Vol 6,Iss 5 (May 2007) has the following note on p. 24 (a 1/48 FRS 1 build ):  "Before late 1984, all SHARs had their front (cold) nozzles painted in their upper surface colour.  ... The rear (hot) nozzles have always been left natural metal and I use (Humbrol) Gunmetal for them. Humbrol's polished steel Metal Cote is a good match for new shields or Gunmetal for weathered shields and their braces.  The rear nozzles and shields soon get very sooty, so I liberally dry-brush matt black over them."  On p. 15 of this same magazine, there is a 4-view colour, full page diagram of Black 14 that shows front nozzles in fuselage colour, but I know that this is not the same as a photo.  There is also a colour guide for each Sea Harrier that participated in the conflict in this same issue; that's why I've held on to it for so long!!    Will keep searching...!

I have a set I got for a yet unbuilt Warrior MCV; "Modern British Tow Cables" with the brass 'rope' and resin buckles,right? You really need a set? Will dig them out if you require them, mate.

Malvinas/Falklands 30 years

Remembering the last war in South America, the Malvinas conflict, FCM will bring to you a series of decals including versions of helos and aircrafts from both forces, for the next year events regarding this. All versions will be included along the normal decals plus a special comemorative set to be released further.

Very good news, but no release date yet. Has anyone used FCM decals before?? They list Flightdecs in Canada, as well as Sprue Brothers in the US for distributors.

I have one sheet of FCM decals and they are very good. They are printed now at Microscale. The owner told me he will try to include the less famous planes and helis who took part in the conflict.

Some great work and shareing of info going on in here, nice to see the GB coming along. Apologiese for my lack of participation. Limited net time in camp has not made things easy. But no my Mighty 8th GB is over, i can concentrate on this one. I am going to be looking for a nice base and a few other things for the Chinook, and plan on starting in the new year.
