Bish

Not bad thanks. The caste has been off just over a week. I have on of those braces now that i can remove. Theres was still a small fracture, its going to take a while to heal fully and i have to be careful. But at least i can model properly now.

Great to read that, I hope you get better soon.

Are you in the Malvinas now?

I hope to see your work soon

Best regards

Here is my entry into this GB, I've already worked on it, but haven't gotten around to posting the build log until now. My scratch-building skills might not be as great as the others who have posted, but here I go anyway!

I used the old MPC Harrier in 1/72 scale:

The cockpit detail is almost non-existent, but I tried my best to replicate a bit more than what the kit provides. The canopy is one piece and a bit thick, so not much is seen through it anyway.

I added two fishing weights in the nose, because I didn't know if this would be a tail sitter, but I decided not to take any chances. The super glue I used ended up fogging the canopy, but I popped it back off and fixed the problem.

detail before scratch-building:

Detail afterwards. I added an instrument panel, side wall bracing, and detail to the ejection seat

I then glued the two fuselage halves together, and added the wings. Both joins required a little bit of putty. I also cut open some of the auxiliary exhaust openings in the intake, but not all. Pictures I've seen on the net showed parked Harriers with only the top 4 open. I also dropped the flaps.

While that was drying, I worked on adding detail to the landing gear: wires, struts, a headlight...

That's some nice work on the Harrier Owl, I'm liking the extra details on the landing gear. Yes

Yeah, I was confused about what they were supposed to be too, but I think they are little exhausts.

Thanks Jeremis. I am back in the UK now, been home since start of May. I won't be going away again as i am out next year.

Still got a couple of builds to go before i start the Chinook. I am planning on starting in the new year. After my current build and the next one are done, going to catch up on a couple of Dio's. But will still leave me plenty of time for the Chinook.

Glad you are on the mend. We all believe in a caste free society....

I'm going on vacation next week so I'm going to try to wrap up the Pucara here tonight and tomorrow night.

It just needs weathering, weapons load out and landing gear attached.

My friend John gave me a lovely C-130J from Airfix. I will build that next as a post-war aircraft. There's a bunch of good pictures of them on line re: the Falklands. I'd like to do a tanker, but I'm not sure what all would be involved.

thanks, fellas.

I've yet to upload the finished pics, but they should be posted in a day or so. but in the meantime, here is the little Harrier ready for paint!

I've decided against adding any ordinance to the plane, due to the lackluster quality the kit offered. Unfortunately my spare weapons in 1/72 are nil. I guess this way allows one to appreciate the lines of the Harrier, even it the lines suggest a fish! Stick out tongue

i think mpc is better on sci-fi subject.... never the matchbox kit had so thick fliyng surfaces, on other way the work you put on it is good owl, sure the camouflage will give a better look to the finished kit Yes

Think the lesson from your build OWL is avoid MPC aircrfat kits. But you have done a nice job on it. Will be nice to see some paint on it.

Considering this was a box I got at a vendors table for only a dollar, I dont really consider it much of a waste. It does allow me to practice basic modeling skills!  Wink

A quick spray session in the garage gave the Harrier is colors. I had some peeling issues with the light gray, but that was due to the paint not being fully cured. but that was easily  fixed. The Camo was masked with silly putty.

It looks less like a fish, now that the paint is applied

I was trying to Google the Falklands paint scheme, (because after reading discussions on this thread, it seemed quite confusing!!) and had seen a lot of the Harriers with the wraparound green/gray scheme. But then I found this one, which, if the caption was to be believed,  was a GR.3 that was stationed at Stanley Airport during the Falklands conflict. The picture shows the belly of the plane to be a light gray color:

I rather liked the tri-color scheme, and considering that the decal sheet came that paint profile (although you can never be 100% certain about the decal sheets) I decided to stick with it.

OWL, assuming that is Stanley, then that would have placed that photo as after the conflict itself, which is fine as thats allowed.

But apart from the drop tank, i am finding it hard to see the lighter colour underneath. But as long as your happy with it.

thanks Bish. If you look close at the front landing gear door and gunpack (?), they are a distinctly light color

Ye, i had looked at that. Yes it does look a bit lighter but not as light as the drop tank. And the green on the nose looks like it just carries on, i would have thought the lighter underside would be more visable there. But it is hard to tell so certain.

probably you get the most confusing picture of the gr3 Tongue Tied

at a firts look the color of hangar behind, causes a strange contrast .

so guys, just to not seems dead some little sue update

details added on the front gear and retraction arm replaced

a stolen piece from the airfix sue donator; the exocet pilon

right noe painted various nose antennas, plus added the little tube on the right and replaced (because i brek the original Whistling) under yellow antenna

all others pieces are just ready to be glued, some more details on the seat and rear seat and it's finished !!

My little Harrier is finished!

The outrigger wheels were too short to touch the ground, but I can get it to balance on the main gear.

OWL, nice job, pulled that kit out of the gutter. regards the outriggers, its looks to me like the landing is set to in flight angles. The front wheel looks more like the pic of the harrier hanging from a roof than the one you posted of it on the ground. But even without that, the outriggers look to short.

Nice job, and nice pics. Thanks for posting.

Congratulations OWL!

You are the first one to finish the job. Nice Harrier.

I was surfing the net and found this pics about a SIG South Atlantic:

Some are from the Milton Keyne Show. Nice town.

I was there 6 years ago for a training course.

bsymato, great work on the SUE, yo are almost there! Mine is quite stoped now, but I hope to make some progress soon.

For the last couples of weeks this wer taking all my modeling time and money

I have a new display cabinet, I´m quit hppy since now my models will be shown of properly and safer (the ironic prt is that in the progress of taking the models from the display cse to this one I broke several LOL)

This week end I will post new pictures of my Etendard
