Falklands/Malvinas War 30th Anniversary GB

Hey there eatthis HMS Fearless certainly did go to the Falknds.  I believe from memory she was Brig Julien Thompson's flag ship.

Doug, if you do decide to do one of the SAR Sea Kings let me know, i have plenty of photos of the ones down here now, and from last here, and if you want some more detailed shots of serial numbers and the like that will be easy to get. I am not sure how often they change the airframes over but would be nice if you did one that was here while the build was going on.

Bish-Thank you for your offer.  Any pictures would be greatly appreciated!  I have a particular helo in mind, but do have enough other parts/decals to do another.  Your idea of doing one during the group build time is a good one.  Are they still grey and do they still have the lifting frames attached underneath, since I believe they are still used to haul cargo from time-to-time?  Only problem might be getting any special squadron markings, but we'll see.  Serial numbers would be useful; I should be able to make up any of these from the many sheets I have on hand.    Thanks again!!  Doug      Forgot to add:  With regards to Land Rovers running around down there today:  When you refer to lightweights, do you mean the "old" lightweights that were pulled from service in 1997 or are they 90" Defenders/Wolves?  That would be neat if the "original" lightweights were still running around in that "forgotten" theater of operations, but that would be too much to wish for.  Again, any pictures, especially of specific registration plates, would be appreciated.  Cheers, Doug 

No worries, i will get some photos taken, though i may not be able to put them up until i get hiome. The two Sea Kings down here are yellow as they are primarly used for SAR. But yes, the do have the equipment for lifting underslung loads. I am with the unit that is repsonable for rigging and hooking underslung loads, Joint Helicopter Support Squadron, so have had a few good close ups of the uderside of a Sea King. In fact we are doing a couple of loads with the Sea Kings today.

There is a ride range of Land Rovers down here, many of them very old and worn out. This isn't a place that spare parts get to very easy or that is high priority for new equipment.  Many of the vehicles are of the civiliqan type, but there are plenty of the Military ones here as well, i will get some photos and see if i can find any of the older ones. I am not much of an expert on Land Rovers, i know what a Wolf looks like, but other than that they all look the same to me. But i will see what i can find.

Sorry mate, i mistook your point. When bondo first mentioned those ships i got a bit confused, as i was sure the Scharnhorst was sunk off Norway.

Bored as hell down here, hardly any work on for us to do. And i didn't get the chance to print those off before i left home. I have 3 weeks leave when i get back so will try to do some then, in bewteen decorating and the garden

Official start is only 11 days off!

I'm a dope, I didn't realise the build hadn't officially started yet.  Oh well no biggy I haven't gotten any further than a coat of primer on the resin bits yet. 

I'll stop work now until the build officially kicks off.

HA! Nobody wanted to say anything that would curb the enthusiasm!! I have a confession... I dipped my Sea Harrier canopy parts in Future yesterday!

Only two days to go till the GB starts, and thats a good excuse to get this off the second page. Is it me or has the GB page been a bit slow lately.

Sure we will see some great builds as always on herte, and i am really looking forward to this one.

Hey Bish, I was just thinking the same thing. I've been (TRYING!) to get some other projects cleaned up asap so I can get focused on this one quickly. I'm also excited to see the models coming out of this group, seems a good variety.

Been a bit hectic down here lately so not always been able to get on. But should settle down now for the last month.

Thats one good thing about this GB. Most GB's are for a certain type, armour, aircraft etc, but this one cover the whole spectrum.  

Going to have to crack into the Scimitar a weeeeee bit early - home from work today (a bit under the weather), and I need some plastic to play with. Don't want to push this build down the list if I can help it, so off I go!

I'll try not to get too much done whilst on the couch.

Hahahahaaa...kind of funny, considering I managed to do that last week while working on a C-47. Good thing I have a solid stock of debonder!

After a session about a month ago, I ran around for the better part of 4 hours with a piece of styrene sheet glued to my elbow without noticing...

If it's not too late I would like to join this build. I have in my collection a Matchbox Sea Harrier that I'd like to build. I know there's better kits out there of it but since I already have it.....

That Matchbox is a 1/72 I'm guessing?

Indeed....It's 1/72 scale and the stock markings also include one for the Indian Air Force (or Navy?) I'm currently reading Jeff Ethell &  Alfred Price's fine book on about the air war in the Falkland, "Air War South Atlantic." That inspired me to join the group build plus I remember the Falklands War very well and have read many books on the topic. Looking forward to see everyone's contributions.

Welcome aboard guys. And roger, no need to be embarressed, i amalso doing a matchbox kit as that was what i had. Infact i think we could do our own Matchbox GB at this rate.

I can't recall who it was, but someone mention about doing a yellow Sea King from down here. The two here now havejust had special markings applied to celebrate 70 years of RAF search and rescue. They have only been added in the last coupleof days. I will get some pics and post them when i can for anyone who might want to try something different.
