I forgot to mention bondo that I checked out the Felixstowe, having never heard of it.  That is going to be most extreme.  Check out this build I found

Bob... 2 years and that little work sounds like a non-start to me.  Welcome aboard.

Bondo, I liked the bit of history about the ship.  As I said, barely know anything about the war.  Interesting that the Germans were active in the Pacific in WWI.   I don't recall them being so in WWII.

The roster has been updated

DOH moment. I have a second entry; the SMS Scharnhorst.

Imperial German Navy Armoured Cruiser, launched in 1906.

She and her sister ship Gneisenau , along with the rest of the East Asia Squadron based in Tsingtao, under the Command Of Admiral von Spee, preyed on shipping in the South Pacific in late 1914.

Eventually  the Squadron reach Chile in October. . They were engaged by the British South Atlantic Squadron off of the Port of Coronel, Chile on November 1. A decisive victory won, Spee sailed East around the Horn and headed home. On December 8,  the Squadron approached the Falklands with the intent of destroying the wireless station.

By then Britain had sent two battleships of the Grand Fleet south to intercept Spee. Approaching Stanley harbor, the Squadron recognized tripod masts in the harbor, but it was too late. Both cruisers and other lighter ships were sunk. The sole survivor was Dresden, a light cruiser. Revell occasionally releases the Emden, which is a close sister ship of Dresden and very well worth looking for on eBay.

So I'll be looking forward to building Scharnhorst.

This sounds like a GREAT ONE, get it. Seriously, I'm surprised that noone had thought of this before. I'll just be spectating with interest. Good luck, this should be fun.

Marc,

Would you consider allowing a kit that has had some of the interior bits painted, along with the propeller?  Of course, it's been sitting in the box for the last two years.....

The kit is the 1/48 Eduard Albatros D.III

In the mood for mustard huh?

Maybe this'll help..

GAS! GAS! GAS!

This guy was purposely exposed to HD (Distilled Mustard) in a controlled lab-experiment to develope new ways to treat Blister Agent casualties...

The amount used was a single, pinhead-sized droplet...

Looks like a excellent start!

Well here is my partial start, not a WIP so someone else can have the honor of the first!

The green Lewis gun was cut from a Edmar? (spell) 1/32 scale WWI figure kit, obviously it did not make the cut.

The rear of the scratch built Lewis gun is a 1/35 scale German assault gun. (grandfather of the AK-47) The banana clip was removed and a scratch pie shaped magazine was added. A second magazine was made for the vignette.

There is a lot of hand repositioning and figure work left. All ready have a plan for realistically destroyed duck boards.. he he you fellows will like this effect!Devil

In my opinion, multiple badges makes it attractive to participate multiple times. I know I will if I get the time.

Cheers

Tony

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

For badges a google image search for ww1 posters turns up a ton of recruitment / war bond / propaganda posters.

Even one you can use to recruit for the GB. Big Smile

OK kids, we're cookin' with gas now. A diverse mix that covers all the major categories.  Too bad there isn't any way to get helos and sci-fi in here.

Well if you really want to go there, WW1 weird science stuff does exist.

As far as helicopters there is this

I helped a GF build exactly that kit! It was really neat and a great conversation piece on the shelf.Cool

Great excuse for me to break into the stash and dust something off! Count me in. I'm leaning towards a Morane-Saulnier type L by Eduard/1:48 but that may change? I only have a few other choices for WWI and I can't even find them right now???

Wake me up as the GB gets near.Smile

Excellent julez.

1st idea for a badge...

opinions?  Feel free to submit a badge.

I am toying with the idea of a different badge depending on your subject.  For example, this would be for the figure guys.

You can count me in, I'm thinking a 1/72 Revell Sopwith Triplane to start with.

JMart
John Keegan's The First World War - I am sure most of you are familiar with Keegan's work, and this is one of his best.

I'm actually reading this now, haven't even made it to the end of 1914 yet, but I'm liking the book and finding out, I don't know nearly as much about WW1 as I thought.

Hey Marc -  I will join in, and probably even finish this one...

I have been putting materials together to build the Dresden-class light cruiser SMS "Emden"  (Revell 1:350 + GMM PE fret ), so that will be my "ship" contribution.

I also have couple Roden & Special Hobby 1:48 a/c (thank you Sprue Brothers Super Specials). Will choose one of them as my first WWI bird build once I look at the boxes.

if anyone wants to read a good intro to WWI, you cannot go wrong with these two old classics:

The Guns of August - Barbara Tuchman:  A tad 'old" book but still one of the best dealing with the events leading to the beginning of the war, as well as those fatefull first few weeks.

John Keegan's The First World War - I am sure most of you are familiar with Keegan's work, and this is one of his best.

And of course, you can watch or read All is Quiet in the Western Front again.  if you never seen Path of Glory (Kubrick), check it out... not as well known but very powerful movie:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0050825/

Cheers all!

Count me in.  And just to prove those kits are still around, I'll put in a 1/28th Spad too.  I might even throw in a couple others.

I thought that I might mention a Lynx helicopter from the movie "Biggles, Adventures in Time" but I figured it might be stretching it a little too far.

I'm going to have to be on the fence. Already committed to a lot of GBs, but this looks awesome, and I'll be lurking if nothing else.

On the Bench: 1/32 Trumpeter P-47 | 1/32 Hasegawa Bf 109G | 1/144 Eduard MiG-21MF x2

On Deck:  1/350 HMS Dreadnought

Oh and Hans... your building... er... what?Whistling

Heh, sorry.... Initial post was clear as mud, eh?

One each-Revell 1/28th scale Fokker D VII and S.P.A.D. XIII

Hans: Are those kits still available???? I remember my brother building those when we were kids back in the 60's.

The initial release was three kits, the Fokker Dr 1, SPAD XIII, and Sopwith Camel, back in 1957..  The D VII came out in the 90s from Revell of Germany.   The original three  were re-released in the 70s and 80s a couple times too, in sets and with different decals...

As for availability, it appears they pretty tough to find, other than maybe Ebay... .  I got these in a single lot off Ebay a couple years ago, two Dr Is, two SPADs, and one each a Camel and D VII...

I'll do an Eduard 1/48 Albatros DV. It's the Red Baron boxing, and is the old release before they re-did the molds. The only thing is, I have to have it done by June, so I'll  have to be misguided by the guideline and start a little early.

Cheers

Tony
