Don Hammerloni, may I humbly present for your review the 1/72 Bf-110:

The build was a "dime store build", in that only Testors square bottles and hardware store spray paint was used. The cockpit was beefed up with some balsa to replicate the sides better. The plane was then weathered with an enamel wash then black and white chalk.(thanks for the tip Hans Toast ). Now back to the Tomcat! As always, comments, good or bad, welcome.

Nice looking Destroyer Navi Beer, I'll bet that 110 greenhouse canopy was a fun project in 1/72.

well, I was gonna go with the decals supplied with the kit, but....  Dead

yeah, the decals are useless. I'll have root through my spares box now.....Here's where the B25 sits now, but I've repainted the nose NMF because I can no longer use the eagle nose.

Here are a few shots of my Vietnamese Coastal Junk, being converted to civilian use. The two machine gun stand locations (fore and aft) will be covered by rope coils. I am doing the kit for my wife who is from Vietnam (Nha Trang) and remembers these vessels.

It was. I usually do canopies freehand, but I used tape on this one.

Owl, that B-25 NMF looks great, you said something about Krylon???

yeah, sure did. For the main body of the plane, I used a Krylon rattle can, Matt aluminum. I misted teh first few coats on, then got closer and applied a heavier coat. Be carefull though, spray cans make it easy to puddle paint and hide detail. Because it was so humid, I let the Krylon coat cure for a few more days than I usualy do, then masked off the other metal panels. THe krylon held beautifully and I had no damage or paint peeling. Just make sure to stick the masking tape to something else a few times to remove most of the tackiness.

Excellent, good to see a low tech way to do a NMF come out so well. Geeked  BTW, if the humidity is high (as it often is in the summer) just spray in an A/C controlled, lower humidity indoor room...... just make sure you don't take too deep of breaths.Ick!

43 wannabees, six made. Poor excuse for a Omerta.

I am gonna have to say it...

"Mike, come over here. You never know when you are gonna have to cook for a couple of dozen guys."

I'm going to have to bring in the muscle from the village. (These guys are actually all related to me).

And not to be taken lightly. Every one of them had a grandfather that went to public school in their village, during the Mussolini era, and either served in the Regia or left. Following the Italian Armistice, the Germans bombed Aquaviva and killed a bunch of civilians. The fellows on the left are carrying the effigy of the Blessed Mother.

Model, people. I have one you'll like- the phantom Mustang.

Sounds like my family.  My Dad had 4 brothers, the oldest two were born in the "Old Country" and immegrated to the US, just after WWII.   My favorite uncle kept the "Family Business" running until he died of natural causes about 10 years ago.  He was a great guy.

I'm still making my bones, Signore Bondoni! Big Smile  I have the canopy attached to the Zero and a couple coats of IJN dark green on, photos will be forthcoming.  The salt technique was a bit of a wash this time around, so chipping will be done some other way.

And my people-well, some of my people-came from Sorrento, outside Naples, and from Grossotto, in the Tirol.  They came over a little before il Duce took over, about 25 years before.  In their case, they were all starving in the Old Country, even the Northerners, who were (and still are) bread bakers.  So they came here and made a new life.  (My German ancestors were here before that).

yeah, her nono came in 1904 and worked coal mines, steel mill until he bought a grocery in Buffalo, sent for the wife and first kid after 5 years.

They are from the eastern part of It'ly, now called Molise and they all spoke Croatian, Italian as a second language.

Funny how close we all are to immigrants, wish we were kinder to those more recent.

But I'm not the Boss, who btw has been absent for a couple. No doubt forming a basketball team among his ex-wives and deciding who to bench....

Uh-oh, I might be in the wrong place!  Norwegian farmers in my background.  Indifferent   Finally getting back to the bench after cataract surgery on both peepers (which, by the way, was a no pain, no brainer - a simple quick procedure I'd recommend to anyone, assuming you have a competent surgeon).  Been wearing glasses for over 40 yrs, and tossed them after getting my left eye back to 20/20.  Big Smile

Back to the topic:  I've got the pit for the Wildcat underway.  Had to scratch a framework as shown in the first photo.  The only cockpit feature in the original kit was a pilot that fit into the aft bulkhead.

DSC01536.jpg

Opened the floor for the downward window view. Added Eduard zoom PE for the instrument panel and side consoles.  A touch of Future on the instruments.

DSC01585.jpg

The seat is True Details for a Hellcat, but I decided that's close enough - they're both Cats, after all.  Seat belts are Eduard.  Here, the pit is fit to the lower middle wing panel.

DSC01590.jpg

Got some touching up to do yet, then I'll get busy on the big pieces.

Ken

I happily present to you, my finished B-25 Mitchell!  The NMF was achieved with Krylon Matt Aluminum, with other panels masked and painted to produce a varied appearance. The decals were all sourced from the spares box. I think I prefer foil over paint however, because I feel foil gives me more control over the finish.

Great looking Mitchell Owl. How did you do the different panel shades with the krylon?

well, the Krylon really only gave me one color (except on the gun nose, that's krylon too, but applied a bit to heavily! oops). The Krylon gave the plane is main NMF color, then once it cured, the Krylon was very nice to mask over and didn't peel or tarnish. The other colors were MM Enamel Chrome-Silver on the wing panels, and MM Acrylic Steel for the darker NMF shades

@Ken--Nice work on that office!  Your Wildcat is coming along nicely.  But have you abandoned the pilot altogether?  Big Smile

@Owl--Wow!  I love your finish, and thanks for demo'ing using Krylon's aluminum, I think I may try it myself.  I also love your in-flight photos, what a great finish!

Best regards,

Brad
