And next month I plan on picking up the Helldiver and Jungle Jim's Vega Funny Car (of course, that was an old Revell kit, but you get the idea).

I am looking forward to Round 2, be it with Monogram kits, older Revell, AMT, whatever.....

Thanks Hans and P38!  I will try to take a few pics during my next break with a 'real' camera to see if it comes out any better.  I have always been a fan of the Monogram figures.  They may have differed in quality and detail, but with a decent paint job, you can turn out some pretty convincing figures.....The uber modelers might turn their noses up at the Monogram kits, but I think they still have a great deal of potential, and IMHO the modeler makes the model; not the other way around!

I sure do!  The dagger through the skull??  It came with the Aeromaster decal sheet.  Instructions said that it was from a stateside training unit, I believe.  Looks pretty cool for a school plane!

Wow.. If you could see your way clear to scan a copy of it for me, I'd sure be owing you one... That's the only thing keeping my Eduard P-39 from being 100% DONE....

It (the 363rd FS/357th FG) wasn't a "State-side Training Unit" as such, but rather an operational unit activated on 1 AUG 43, at Hamiltion AAF, CA, and at first were equipped with P-39s, until they shipped to the UK in December of '43, and were re-equipped there with P-51Bs... They began combat ops in Feburary of '44.  Some of 363rd's more "famous names" assigned were Bud Anderson, Jack Roush, and of course, Chuck Yeager, who had been shot down and spent most of the first half of 1944 escaping and evading the Germans, until he made his way to repatriation...

I've tried, but without sucess, to get this artwork scaled down to just the right size...

That brings back some fond childhood memories for me.. In Henderson Park on Bergstrom AFB in the 60s there was a T-33 sitting there on it's gear and the canopy had been busted open by vandals once upon a time.. Me and a few friends would turn it into a B-17, somewhere over "Der Vaterland" with two of us in the 'pit, and the rest inside the fuselage area, using open inspection panels for the "waist gun" windows and the tail-pipe for the rear stingers...  I know I musta logged over 200 "missions" in that thing, lol...

Down to business... 

Ok... Blanket extensions will be granted for everyone, just this ONCE... The absolute, drop-dead, don't care that your went to jail, dog died, wife ran-off-with-the-Fed-Ex-guy-that-delivered-your-Ebay-kit-purchases-for-this-build, cut-off date is 11 November 2011, Veteran's Day...  Those of you that're lagging, get frakin' hot...  Those that're Made, get another kit in the bag, or get ready for round two, Tenative start-date is 1 March 2012, with a cut-off time TBD later... More info on that will happen in THIS thread, but no separate thread will be posted prior to this one shutting down,  and those that have "friends"  in here may want to consider "recruiting"... And don't forget the Sci-Fi guys... (Only one of those guys will have to either kiss m' ring, or he can choose another part of my anatomy to kiss if he wants in.. Won't say who out loud, he knows who he is..)

For Round II, I will expanding the kit manufacturer choices to include others like HAWK, Testor's-Italeri, Testor's HAWK, Heller, Tamiya, pre-merger Revell AMT, etc... But as with this build, think 50's/60s/70/s...

Thanks for the extension boss. To quote General Browning, "... all we need now, are three days of clear skies."  With that my F9F will be done and possibly the another Monogram beastie. But certainly by that most hallowed of days.

Round II sounds great to me. I have plenty of stuff in my stash (possibly half) that qualifies. It all depends on the cut off year.

Stik-Love the Panther.  That's another one I need to add to my stash.

Here's the P-51D....I'm calling it done.  Might go back later and add a wash and some weathering, but not now.  I'm not happy with the fit of the aftermarket decals (made for a Tamiya kit) around the cowl and the propeller hub, but if I had been a bit more patient, I probably could have improved it.  Again, I was reminded of the detail level of this kit and for the price (especially with a coupon at Michaels or Hobby Lobby) it's a great deal.

One thing I did was to trim the solid 'glass' from the gun sight and add a piece of scrap from a clear spruce:

Will use that technique more often.

Some interesting fit issues, but it's all good.  I have some small details to add, but hope to finish up soon.

Unfortunately, my formerly fast-moving Mirage 2000 project has crashed and burned...the decals COMPLETELY crapped out on me (they looked brand new on the sheet). Some won't adhere, some are permanently wrinkled, and a couple went down perfectly. Not sure what gives. Have tried all 4 setting solutions at my disposal to no avail.

Question is, how do I remove the decals to give another set a try?

Today was attach all the fiddly bits (except pilot's ladder) to the lowers- speed brakes and actuators, gear doors and actuators, plus detail painting on ordinance and the pilot. Tomorrow willbe some pin wash (minimal, since the Panthers in "Toko Ri" were very well maintained)

Almost done...

Hey Stick, the cat is looking awesome!  Hopefully, that one will stay out of any local playground!!  Speaking of Toko Ri, I can almost see a whirlybird with a mad Irishman in a top hat!!!!

Thank you Dave! Last night I spent a while watching clips from the movie on You Tube to get the look I worked on today correct.

first off I applied a wash of Promodeler Dark Dirt in selected areas. One it was dry some wipes with a damp cloth to remove excess and just leave some in the desired areas...

then based upon what the movie shows appearance wise, I decided upon a custom mix for the top coat, some sheen and reflectivity, but not too much. So I mixed 2 parts Humbrol Satin, which is rather dull actually, to 1 part Aeromaster Semi Gloss, which is on the shiny side, and airbrushed that overall.I think it came out just what I wanted, toned down but with some sheen and reflectivity. Especially in daylight.

And finally a coat of Matt Clear on the bombs. I still need to do a few detail touch ups on them though before I attach them.

Final airbrushing done- canopy frame painted white in appropriate areas and masks removed...

Now I just need to do touch ups and attach the final bits. Later today though because right now my work area is getting a little too warm to work in due to the sun returning today with some hot weather (for here).

Very pretty Panther, Stik!!  Nice paint job on that tiny pilot, too.

Where in the name of William Holden did you find those decals?  The only set I know of with Brubaker's markings was a sheet by Cutting Edge, and it's been OOP for a LOOOOOONG time, unfortunately.  Looking forward to seeing her done.
