MKellye, nice job on the Stang.  Awesome how these, so called "poor Revell kits", are finishing up as prizes!!

Don Hammer, I ask if I can add Monograms B-25 to this GB? I wont be able to start it for a bit, and it will be a crossover with NMF III.

I love your Mustang, Mike!  Someday I'll get around to building mine, too (after the -B, the ICM -B, the pre-merger Revell -D...) Big Smile

It's fun to look at the -D kit and see how Monogram improved the details compared to the earlier -B kit, though both are still worthy kits today (which is why we have this build, of course)

Well.  Due to some time constraints and the fact that my Avenger bit the big one, I will instead be doing another F9F.  This one in Blue Angels livery.  It is the 1/48 Monogram kit as well.  I started it this morning and I am taking images as it progresses.  I will put up all of the images when I am done so people don't have to jump to multiple messages to see the progress workflow.  Luckily I have paint and some AM decals for the BA ships.  I do have one question for our experts.  I can't find a good reference photo which shows the landing gear bays and the landing gear colors.  I think they are either white or blue but I'm not sure.  Does anyone know what the colors for the bays and struts are, as well as the inside of the air brake panels?

Thanks

Rich.

Ho hoooooo, a functional card reader! And for 4 bucks shipped from EBay!

Been a while since I posted anything for this build, so first the pre-paint photo:

And where she is right now:

As I was taking the pics, realized there are still a few touchups I wanted to get to - namely the unpainted gun barrels, and a few spots of paint, mostly on the tail. Other than that, she's in the bank.

Now to decide if I keep plugging away on the F-102, or build another F-5 in some exotic camo scheme...Stick out tongue

Dupes, very nice on the F-5. Not very ofter you see markings for the Philipine AF. Bare metal finishes are a bear and yours looks flawless. Build the 102 with SEA camo.

Went over to modeling madness to check out their F-102 page...seen here

There's only one SEA scheme set listed, superscale #1251, seen here

Would anyone object to me using a case XX wing scheme on a case X wing...?

Still open to other options, of course. Yes

You're already a "Made Mono-mafioso", Owl... Add as many kits to this build as you'd like to... The only stipulation is that it has to be finished within the run of the Build...

Goes for the rest of you mugs too...

wouldn't it be "Mono-mafiosa" ?  :P

I estimate that I would be able to begin the B25 in July or sooner, so with an end date in September--that gives me 3 months. That should be plenty of time!

Some of the F-102 airframes were indeed done up in the T.O. 114 SEA colors during their (brief) deployment in SE Asia...  As for specific markings and units, I'm not sure on a source for those... However, you should be able to use the national insignia from other kits that are around, or decal sheets for other kits with that finish..  You mght be able to piece together the correct unit codes as well..

As you can see, there aren't a whole lot of marking anyway..

I tend to use spurious (made-up, or phony, for you folks in Rio Linda, CA) markings on most models to keep the Rivet-Counters at bay, m'self... But in case you don't want to, here's some F-102 units that were in SE Asia as early as 1961..

"Mono-mafioso" in the context I used is to be considered gender-neutral.. Looking forward to seeing your Mitchell..

Sweet.. Lemmo know when she's 100% and I'll update the front page..

Now to decide if I keep plugging away on the F-102, or build another F-5 in some exotic camo scheme...

After I spent the time searching for SEA-camo'ed Dueces and units,  Betch can't guess which way I'm leanin'..

As for camo-ing another F-5, that Blue-grey camo used on the F-5 is pretty nice..

I once asked a Squid Tiger-driver at an airshow, Why the blue camo?", and he answered, "It's just part of the training program, getting nuggets used to flying with camo'd aircraft on their wing, and it's also on the Agressor Units (This was back in the late 80's... He had a "Instructor-Top Gun" pach on his sleeve, so I took his word...)

Well, Hans, sadly I may have to turn in my badge. Starting June 6, I will be attending college for 2 years, as I was laid off in November last year, and the paperwork has finally come through on my trade adjustment act, which pays for the tuiton and materials to attend classes, as my work was directly affected by outsourcing.

My first semester I'm gonna have three 8 hour days and two 12 hour days a week. This will get my pre-requisites out of the way quickly though, but there will be no time to build.

I am so sorry folks, but I gotta take advantage of 2 free years of college!Big Smile

Just let me know what you think. Thanks.

Well.  The major assembly is finished on the F9F Blue Angels Panther.  Here are a bunch of WIP Images taken over the construction process.  Tomorrow it's paint and decalling time.  I could have gone to paint today but it is much too humid here right now.  So On with the show.

First off, the Pedigree..

Now the WIP Images...   "In the Beginning.."

Next is a shot of the painting process about halfway done on the cockpit tub and instrument panels.  They look a lot better in person than the images.

Now the front landing gear bay.  I'm not 100 percent sure on the correct color for the Blue Angels birds in the landing gear bays, so I stuck with the Interior green called for in the instructions.  If anyone has any better info, please let me know.

Here is the cockpit and landing gear bay installed right before I closed up the fuselage halves.

Here is the Fuselage assembled and banded to dry overnight.

After assembling the fuselage, I installed the tail elevators.  One thing that has always impressed me about this kit, is the tightness of the fit.  You almost never have to sand to get a good fit.  And for an inexpensive kit, that is rare.

Here we see it with the wings freshly added and clamped on.

Here is the main cockpit glass canopy section.  I have already installed the rear deck in the canopy.  I am opting for a closed canopy on this one.

And lastly, the main aircraft sections after final assembly.  I almost always wait until after primary paint before installing landing gear.  It get's rid of a lot of otherwise needed masking.

Pardon the arthritis gel in the background.  I tend to go through a lot of it when building nowadays.. lol..  Anyways.  Since this is a Blue Angel plane, I will not be installing any under wing stores or tanks.  I should have her ready and painted tomorrow, then just decals and some detail and touch up work and this bird is ready to fly.  I hope the Don approves.. :)

Hi ya'll,

I haven't posted since announcing, but I was finishing up on the Phantom GB. I did get the B-36 started back in March, but am now going full bore. I've got to get some more fishing sinkers, I don't think I'm ever going to get the CoG forward enough to avoid the pedestal.

Glenn I kid you not. I got a 2 1./2" long 1/2" bolt and filled it with nuts. Glued it in the compartment where the gun turrets lived.

Here's my Mack Bulldog Log Carrier. It wasn't an easy build, as I found the instructions not exact with steps out of sequence. But its finally done. With it is another Monogram kit in the same scale 1/24 of rhw MG-TC which has a diecast body.

Well.  I just got through shooting the main Blue Angel Blue on the F9F.  I'll let it cure overnight before decals.  The paint job came out pretty good.  I'm starting to feel more confident with the airbrush, Although I am still having an issue with the jar slipping out of the receptacle on the brush.  I really think they should have used metal for the feed tube.  Plastic just wears out too fast.  I'll post some images when she's all dry, before decals and after.

I finally found something to get the nose down on the Peacemaker. Turns out it was a long shank padlock. With that, I have the fuselage together. Some nasty seams and cleanup will commence shortly. If I can get a camera, I'll post a couple of pics.
