Its been awhile. Lots going on with my life- undergoing a separation at the moment, so that has been my main focus, so I won't be posting for awhile until I get things ready in my new house. Had a chance tonight to let you know I have not been goofing off! Just started the weathering on the starboard side, will take awhile to finish, but the light is definitely brighter at the end of the tunnel now!

Thank you for sharing! For U-550 to patrol the american east coast that late into the war was almost a suicide mission... I just looked up this boat on uboat.net and it seems that luck was in short supply on this ill fated vessel. They also have a photo on record of the tanker that was sunk.

BSY, dont worry about the black stripe, AKA "boot topping". U-Boats did not use those or have red bottoms. Check out this article for lots of great info.

LOL i think is the type VII that is really little, because the nine have the same lenght in 1/700 :)

The box shows this scheme, like and going for it... if i'm able to paint the little black stripe in the middle of the sub

A 1/700 scale IXB you say? My god,.. it must be tiny! Great work sofar my friend. What paint scheme are you going to apply? The 1/350 type VII i built was around 10cm (4 inches) long, this one must be... 6 or maybe 7cm?

I was hoping to see finished pictures of your Trafalgar and i must say i am not in the least bit let down in my expectations. I especially love the vertical streaking in your finish. How did you accomplish that? Absolutely lovely model!

Tony, SAAF/SAN Wasps had wheels for ship ops :-)

There are actually now a few privately owned wasps as the SA Gov sold them as surpluss.

Theres something strange in the wasp kit. Main difference between the scout and the wasp are the landing gear. Wasp uses a four legs gear with wheels (as the gallery link you put there),instead  the scout have fixed skids withouth whells 

Ugly but nice. Wheels or skids Theuns ? The four point undercarriage looks quite unique.

Hi guys, since we has so much time with this GB, is there any space for my 1/48 Fujimi Westland Wasp? The South African Navy used them from the 60's till 90.

Started!

Some picture after glued the hull , turret unglued

Handrails are really out of scales ,but general details are really fine

Glued an handle to help works and cut off the original handrails

glued the other two main hull pieces

and started to replace handrails on the turret .. dam.. micro work 

Netx sub will necessary at least in 1/350 

Arrived today the micro u-boot!!!

The kit is snapfit, but will use glue anyway, asap will start

Waiting for the order confirm , but with latest supplies ordered i put down a little 1/700 U-boat type IX B from hobbyboss !!!

WOW, U-Boats everywhere.

That figure set came with the re-release of the 72nd VIIC last year. It looks rather nice and saved me buying the CMK figures.

The crew set i used is Revell of Germany's "deutsche marinefiguren" set in 1:72. It has 51 figures in it in various poses and is meant for either my schnellboot or your VIIC. Highly recommended and i think you should be able to find it there for like ten US dollars...

Thank all of you guys for your kind words. The box had been in my stash for quite some time but now i can only feel sorry i did not start on it sooner. You do get alot of detail and a big model for the very soft price tag of 19 euro's...

But let me introduce you guys to my next intended model:

There are several ponts where the VIIC/41 is different from the standard workhorse VIIC... Most notably are the absence of the 88mm deck gun, a different setup of the conning tower, a schnorkel device (makes the sub recharge the batteries running underwater on diesel engines provided there was a relative calm sea) and lastly the canisters for the life rafts added on top of the deck:

There are options for four different boats and i intend to depict either U998 or U1004, both of which have the yellow training markings around the forward conning tower.... very smashing:

Lastly, i did mention the purchase of a crew for my model... They are slightly underscale at 1:160 but i think i can make em into an effective crew with some adaptations and clever paintwork:

Ye, i think that when i got the kit last year. I have just finished getting the last AM bits for mine. I just got a PE set from WEM, but it was thge one for the flood, drain and vent holes. I did notice their normal PE set was very similar to the Eduard, which i already had. I'm just waiting on the wooden decks to arrive. But i still won't be building it for a while, until i have space enough to build and display it.

Looking forward to seeing some more pics.

I remember a long time ago reading that you were going to do this kit- I was looking forward to seeing it. I used mainly the Eduard PE as well as some WEM (or was it Yankee Model works?) PE, mainly for the vent screens near the bottom of the hull. They overlap with the Eduard kit, and are not as good. I also used some PE from Yankee model works( or was it WEM), but not much was used- mainly the templates.

Excellent work as always! I have this kit in the stash to do as well- bought for $10 CDN! Where did you get those excellent figures?

The VIIc is painted, still stuff to build on the deck. Will post pics in a week or two.

Now this is one of those GB's i would have loved to take part in but just not able to at the moment. But if i had known someone was building the Revell 72nd VIIc i would have paid more attention. I have just finished getting the last bits of AM for mine, but it will be a while before i get round to it.

maxfax, apologies if you mentioned it before, but is that the Eduard PE set your using.

Time to save this thread from the bottom of page two LOL... Theres just little going on here at the moment but i will patiently keep going since there is still immensely great quality being posted. Art takes time shall we say?

I just noticed the guy standing just next to the command cabin on the starboard side should be holding some rope..... Got plenty of it here around and i promise by the time i put this one on the shelf he will be sorry i noticed

Lastly i would like i will be starting a new model for this GB soon even though the going is slow at the bench at the moment... I plan on starting another 1:144 Revell sub. This time a VIIC/41, the same one as the 1:72 one i built for round one just smaller.

After asking around a bit i did find some passable crew figures for this one. There is no navy crew figures in 1:144 on the market that i know of but somebody suggested using N scale (1:160) figures used by the train guys.. And my LHS just so happened to have something i think i can work with: a N scale train conductor figure set... Hey at least they are in uniform

I have seen your post the day you posted it but couldnt find the time to get on and react yet... My apologies. Well,... what can i say. What is already a gorgeous kit OOB is only enhanced by your meticulous aftermarket addons. I was simply drooling all over my screen man! Absolutely amazing to watch every update and i can only commend you for your patience. Some of it must drive you up the wall to assemble. Three chears from across the pond!

Welcome to the silent service corner my friend. I was waiting for someone to start that beast for the GB... Wether you go the aftermarket route or just go OOB and concentrate on the painting is all the same to me as long as you have fun doing it Your build will be listed on the front page ASAP sir!

As for me...

Summer is hitting hard in these parts so my modeling has gone a bit slower..... I am however in the finishing stages of the schnellboot and hope to post smt soon
