(A)SW GBII - CLOSING

Stikpusher I will be watching your build closely as I am planning to build a destroyer too, and haven't built a ship since I was a kid. That was a bunch of moons ago too.

Kermit I went to Michaels today to get a replacement model for little Kenny, after a year he finally broke the P-51 I got for his B-day last year. Got the same model for him as he asked Uncle Randy to fix it for him, got it finished up and given to him this evening. LOL no I didnt build a P-51 in a day buddy it was one of Testors fast build kits, they are pretty tough too seeing as how it took a 3 year old almost a year to brake. Anyway while at Michaels I noticed they have a couple of sub kits and I have a 50% off coupon good for tomorrow only, and I have never built a sub You can see where this may be going I think, and you have a habbit of makin me do kits or use building methods I have never used before ........................

I just took a look at that review you posted and i think you convinced me to look for it next time i am in the hobby shop I really like the way it looks!

Anyways,.... the revell 1:144 "wilhelm bauer" type XXI submarine with visible interior is 53cm (21") in length once completed, just like their VIIC in 1:125 scale. Sofar i am very impressed with it and there is alot of nice detail.

i think you write posts as me, after midnight when the sleep it's very strong.. 

as i write above the kit is very nice even for oob finish and without aftermarket pieces.

Today i've worked a little on it, cut away the panel for access to engine(s) so.. i cannot retire to scratch it.

tipe XXI .. wow 53 cm .. i have in stash only a bismark 1/350 that have more lenght than it . never builded submarines till now. i'm curious to see a wip of one

about is what you mean with "double mamba"... My best guess would be "weathering"?? (aging the model, making it look old and used?) Guess we will find out soon

Srry for my english Kermit , double mamba it's the gannet engine, formed by two turboprop engine  joined with

a gearbox... at the end the Gannet have two engine. 

For wheatering i'll use as ever drybrush, only focused on sea ambient.

Yes the kit it's one of newer revell kit (2007), i take a pictures of untouched sprues but don't remember where is.

I can see you understand the group building thing now I enjoyed your introduction to the gannet. It looks like it is one of revell's newer kits? Detail looks very good sofar... Starting me too

First of all needed to found the right box where i put the gannet. He comes in usual RoG box, then with lateral opening... the best way to lost some piece, then i used to put kits that comes with these box in others old boxes with the convenient top opening...

... after a quarter of an hour i found it in the italeri antonov an- 2 colt box..... (and where i put the antonov?)

..going to the gannet:

The kit are one of the best kit that i lately see on my workbench (lotsofpieces!!! i like it).

All fly control surfaces are movable (not ever this it's a good thing) without wasting the accuracy of the kit:

i had alreafy glued the tail surfaces, rudders etc before to start this post

Weapons bay, front gear well and cockpit base even glued.

Front gear well need some details to add.

This afternoon dedicated to do research for gannet details, heres a honest site for after WW2 british planes

Lots of picture , history etc and mainly great details of planes

Fuselage as the revell made it:

The nose comes with air intakes closed and too few dept.... before drill and cutter action

Again not decided which version to do ( Decals are for Royal Navy and Marineflieger )

The first idea after visiting the site above, after found this picture,

is to do some partial double mamba (what name ) engine scratch (i'll not use aftermarket kits to finish the gannet) to simulate partial maintenance time.

Well you also have a 9 hour lead on start time from those of us on the west coast of North America

I did take some pics of my old kit box and sprues just to show it here though. The only mold line which I found that obviously needs clean up is on the centerline of the bottom of the hull.

Well,... i guess your humble host is the first one to cut sprue.... As i announced i will start off with Revell of Germany's Type XXI sub with visible interior. Not much done apart from spraying the inside of the hull halves light grey, painting some dials and tubes that are molded on and adding a black wash as to simulate dirt...:

Interesting build for sure! I am going to enjoy you build the monogram. If it is anything like the older revell ship kits youre going to have alot of fun cleaning up flash and do some seamwork You're on the board sir!

 

The kit I have is actually one of the original production runs. I picked it up off Ebay a fewyears back and must have come from an old collection. In any case the modlings themselves look great-NO FLASH what so ever... There may be some seam work, but it will be hard to say until construction begins. My biggest obstacle I think will be painting/masking and the PE I intend to try out.

Ok, boys and girls... the (A)SW GB part 2 has officially started today.... Get out the styrene and cut some sprue!

Welcome to the group sir. Your build has been added to the list! The few rules i have are in the first post... nothing dramatic...just have fun. Basically we all post pictures of our builds in this group while we are working. Ahh, the AM Avenger Built the italeri rebox for the last group and i have to say it is one of the best detailed kits outthere OOB, period. Hope you will have just as much fun and satisfaction as i did!

Kermit may I if you please get in on this build ? I haven't built a ship in years, a lot of years to be honest. I am not sure of which I will do but I would like to enter a Destroyer, more than likely in 1/700 scale.

Im in. AM TBF-1C, USS Block Island May 1944. The Block Island got the submarine warfare part right. It was the anti part they had a problem with. Sunk May 29, 1944 by U549
