AMS- Advanced Modeler's Syndrome. The urge to continuously modify/detail any kit you are building, beacuase OOB (Out Of Box) is never right, good enough, etc. Be it purchased after market or scratch built gizmology it starts to consume your building style.

..  feels like i'm infected Dead last years tried to do oob but even failed

Well painting for today is out due to windy weather (15-20 blowing straight into my garage where I paint and have the door open) So I decide I am gonna do more add on to the Mack. The molded exhast ventts were pretty weak, so I drilled them out. But then the openings did not look right... what to do???Hmm Some aluminum tubing to the rescue! I was able to get some to fit that I had, cut and filedthem to proper length, then bored out the edges to proper shape and now, some proper machinery exhaust vents... now to tackle that SPS-52 air search radar...Whistling

Thanks for the idea on the rotor blades Martin. I have brass shim stock in the drawerToast

Any little bit of extra detail helps huge. Those ladders look great! The seasprite looks really good too.The blades you have look nice too.I remember doing a small Seahawk ,and the blades were too thick and chunky so i used .006" brass shim stock which worked very well especially when I drooped them.Just a thought if you are not happy with the kit ones.

Cheers

Thanks DH!

I did a bit more work on her late last nite... my first ship PE...Toast Well nothing major, just a couple vertical ladders added on to the Mack assembly, but they are my first. I am sure under a coat of paint the will look good..

http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i181/stikpusher/models/Model%20WIPs/002-38.jpg

And not one to let some time go to waste, I scribed some detail onto the top of the ASROC launcher to match what I have seen in photos...

http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i181/stikpusher/models/Model%20WIPs/003-25.jpg

And then I did some work on the Sea Sprite helo: fuselage seam clean up, thin down the rotor blades some (not quite the right size for some PE one I have,, dang) and the main landing gear wheels were molded as a solid rod all the way across. I changed that to give two distinct (somewhat) wheels..

Great improvement Stickpusher!! now pieces looks better Yes .. Eye of jeweller on the kaman!!

Thanks Vance. My original build of this went in to garbage as well. Unlike the USS Halsey which became a range target for my BB gun...

My next challenge is to scratch a new Air Search radar for her. The one that come with the kit is an older incorrect type.

Looking good Stik, I've actually built this one myself, probably when I was still in high school + long-gone now. I was never a "blow it up" kinda guy, so I can only assume it ended up in a tiny little scrapyard somewhere!

I applied a coat of Neutral Gray for Haze Gray on the hull and superstructuer and I used Gunship Gray for Deck Gray on decks...

A couple over all shots with the superstructure sides held in place and the deck placed on the hull.

a close up of the 5" turret and the sonar dome after I sanded the putty smooth

close up of the 5" turret and ASROC launcher....neither are painted yet as I am still gonna add some detailing to each... I have drilled out the bore of the 5" gun.

close up of the Mack assembly and the gun director... I hollowed out the radar dish abit and am still gonna add some details there... the Mack will be dressed with some detailing up a bit before painting...

and a close up of the Tarter/Standard MR launcher and the fire control radar... again I bored out the radar dish, but still need to add more detail to that one as well...

It is starting to look like a Gannet now Yamato!

I will be curious to see if you end up as a tail dragger or not.

Good luck and keep up the good work

cheers
martin

I hope this problem will be resolved with engines plumbing Smile

Eventually i can put more weight on the wings front, but is too close at the main gear to make the difference

kermit

Wonderful work everyone!YesYes

Bsyamato,

If all else failes you could always put it on a base and glue it on...? Just a suggestionSmile

Richard

A diorama was an option, but generally i hate to glue down my planes, in this case because i'll put some extra detail in the torpedos bay....

another solution is to put the gannet tail on a display with an air spray .

finally i found the sprues pictures

Photobucket

... as i said at the start, there's a lot of pieces ..

the little bird is drammatically seated on the tail after the lead cure Crying

i finished the space to put other weight!

unfortunately with the engine mod i cannot use the large zone after the propellers complex.

The only way to resolve the problem is to fill the engines with lead pieces Angel

I put lead shot around nose gear bay,aft of cockpit bulkhead, and forward of main gear behind engines....probably 60+grams....oh well.

Gannet should not be as hard to weigh down.

If i don't wrong you put weights only in the rear of engines, but not in the nose Hmm .. you can try to use the torpedos forward to add more weight . For the rest the plane is very nice finished Super Angry YesYes

Hi all!....These are the final teasers you get until final decals and weathering happen....probably a month or so.

I don't know if I am in a rush to build another Kinetic kit, lots of annoying issues.

This is not the most accurate CDN Tracker out there I am sure, but I like the way it is shaping up.

some little update:

Re-Fixed the front gear well and gled with scrathed bulkhead, also added some reinforcement.

Photobucket

The rudder pedals horizontal now!!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Seats with padding

Photobucket

Test fitting for wired ip. Also seen in picture: drilled two holes on the wall after the pilot, the kit provide only drawn lines . checking reference pictures the wall have the two holes.

Photobucket

paint it black!

Photobucket

Photobucket

the control stick was modded a little: added two wires for control buttons and shaped the too circular circle on the top!

that's all for his time.

----------------------------------------

Off Topic

just today finished another kit !!

take a look in the science fiction section if someone want to see some different Super Angry

Hi all,

Here are a few more progress shots including scratch built searchlight(nothing in kit)and scratch detailed  dirtied up torpedo bay...

Apparently decals are a month away.....so I will hang tough I guess....

http://i483.photobucket.com/albums/rr198/cudaguru/IMG_0443.jpg

Nice scratch DHC ! The plane it's out great.

you're about to finish the tracker... Crying

Then very old kit stikpusher , this is courage! i have an old sm-79 from airfix and i have no courage to finish Indifferent eheh ...Yes on gannet actually i've exagerate... i need to do a speed built (in mind the he-111 from italeri) to see somethingh finished!!!!!

Have too many work in progress all with too many mods on. Plus i've joined another group build with two planes Snail Snail

Nicely wheatered biber Julez!!!!

On gannet kit i found a pair of errors, the rudder pedals are molded correctly but oob are fixed in orizontal way when the correct way is to place in vertical Hmm

And the rear cockpit have the head pillow ... without housing... Hmm x2

I'll correct these problems and soon post something.

Yes BSY,  I finally started...Embarrassed Hey we have until next year...Wink I am not sure as to the exact year of origin of this kit, but I do recall building this kit the first time in the early 70s when I was a kid and it was not new then.

And I am quite impressed by the amount of detail you are adding to your build there...Stick out tongue
