slight change to my build...looking in more detail at the F-117 in a lozenge scheme would not really be appreciated that much what with all the angles....so I am going to dress up an A-10 with the a nice colorful lozenge camo.....its shape will really take well to it...and the twin tails will add to it as well...

Seriously, the Revell Germany kits are usually reboxes of other companies older kits, although they've had their own line of kits since the 70s too.....

Revell 1/48 aircraft kits are generally ex-Monogram or ex-Revell US...

Yeah, I did a bit of searching and apparently the RoG A-10 is the ex-Monogram, and the Revell is the Revell. The only way I know to tell the Monogram kit from the Revell (didn't even know Revell molded one?) is the split ailerons.

Whatever. I'm going to play it safe and snag an old Monogram boxing off eBay.

I just finished my daily 1/48 search on eBay.  I saw a couple of nice ones there now.

IIRC the Tamiya A-10 dates from the late 70s.

The Revellogram was regarded as the best A-10 in 1/48 until the Hobby Boss came out, but 1) I've read some negative impressions of the Hobby Boss kit and 2) the HB kit is $70...

ugghh - my first "negative impression" would be $70?!?!?! The good news? You could still buy 3 of them for less that $229...

Honestly, if I was going to spend $70 on a 1/48 A-10, I'd just suck it up and spend $130 on the 1/32 Trumpy kit.

I suppose there is a point of no return when your talking big-money kits! Well, big-money to me and Hammer anyway! Wink

Yeh, I know what you mean.  More than $20 is big money to me.  And when we find a house, even $10 will have to be agreed upon by the Mrs.

Well, I'm not planning on dropping coin on either any time soon!

Monogram for me on this build! It'll also be a chance to revisit a kit I built as a kid (well, teenager) and see how my skills have improved:

The pilot obviously left that one in reverse gear. I kinda wish I had some pics of my originals. I remember a 1/48 Me262 that I built one, I think it was a Lindberg kit(?). It came molded in a dark green, for the camo I added hand-brushed splotches of metallic emerald green... Ick! I'll blame that one on my Irish lineage!

That would be my mom's fault...

What survives of my old collection is with my parents in Arizona, and the dry climate plays havoc with delicate parts. She does her best to "reposition" things, but inevitably goes and does something like putting the canopy back on backwards.

I'm getting really excited for this GB. I think the blue/blue P-47M camo is going to look great on the A-10, especially with the red rings on the engine pods and the NMF undersides and leading edges. Think I'm going to go all the way with yellow chromate gear bays, dull dark green in the cockpit, etc!

I've read good reviews of the Italiei 1/48th A-10. I may be a re-boxing of another kit though.

Really like the idea of this GB but can't commit since I've got over thirty half-completed projects lying around and made a New Year's Resolution to FINISH something instead of starting something new. And I'm going to try to hold myself to it. Still maybe this summer or autumn I might be able to drop in before the end date.

I was thinking about the '80s movie 'The Final Countdown' where the USN carrier (I think she was the Nimitz) goes back though time to just before the Pearl Harbour attack. I was thinking 'what if the Nimitz stayed in '41 and they painted the F-14s in the USN tri-colour blue and white???'

That sounds cool.  I am still not totally decided, but I am leaning towards the Revell F100 in 1/48 scale if I can find one on eBay cheap enough.  Probably totally custom markings.

I love that movie.  And yes, it was the Nimitz with Kirk Douglas commanding it.  I thinnk that color scheme would look awesome on any modern jet. lol

OK - I can do a GB that doesn't involve accurate references! Put me in for a big Testor's YF-22A in a scheme that would get me laughed off anyplace else. I've been wanting to desecrate this old kit ever since I "won" it on Ebay, back before there were any real F-22 kits available. After looking at the Coloridos-en-Cielo slide show, I'm sure it'll fit right in!

It's a 1/32 with an astounding lack of detail, which makes it a perfect palette for a Wild Wings AC.

Ordered the Tamiya P-47M. Been planning to build one anyway, and figure I'll steal the kit decals for the A-10, then use aftermarket markings on the -M.

Just came across this build,, I probably am biting off more than I can build..but this sounds fun!

Sign me up for a 1/48 Revell F4U-4 Corsair in "Flying Leathernecks" demonstration team colors...yeah they are only in my head....

I also have a Testors Plated 1/48 F8F Bearcat been figuring what to do with, so put me down for that also...

Thanks!!

Hey Rich, I don't know if you took me as "officially" in this one or not - Revell's 1/48 F4 Phantom is the subject, in something more interesting than gray over gray...

Ok, the Phantom has been given it's first glue-to-part step... We're off!

Jeez, I forgot how big this sucker is... Haven't built this kit since 1979, when I was doing my first (and only) "Jet Phase", trying to build one of each type of jet aircraft Dad flew during his career...  Monogram was kindly relesing exactly the right kits at the time, too..

This bird is onna need a diorama to show it off properly, and that's gonna make it as big as my P-61 dio, lol...
