yup, kermit, thanks. That is what I meant!
It does not matter if it is a step or a seam...it is unsightly and you would do best to get rid of it. It will make the area look much better.

Now that I'm here, where am I??
I'll try, but if I sand it down it will give me troubles with the canopy fitting, as it is the canopy will have lots of gaps, can you use filler on clear parts?
Should I sand it down and risk the canopy not fitting? Or leaving it be and have to canopy fitting, and plus when the canopy is on you won even be able to see it? But I have been thinking about cutting the canopy so I can have it in an open position, then I would need to sand down the step, and the fit of the canopy wouldnt matter if I have it in the open position.
from the pics, it does not look like sanding the rear bulkhead flat should impede canopy fit. Canopy fit can be improved with plastic shims or white glue.
also, RRB, can you fix your signature so that there is not so much white space? It takes up a lot of room and creates needless scrolling. Thanks.
I'll fix it if I need too, I might level it with thinner instead of sanding it though.
I never noticed my signature was all messed up, I can't tell on my PC, I must have a larger screen, your using a laptop aren't you? . I'll try and fix it.
Here is the paint job on the p-40. It looks quite strange with no decals, the flying tigers had a strange camo scheme. Im not sure if i painted it very acurate. i used humbrol acrylic 169 & tamiya XF-73 dark green for the camo and humbrol acrylic 90 for the bottom.the masks only leaked twice on the bottom which was ok.
looks good RRB. If I remember correctly , the P-40s that would later be the mounts of the flying tigers were originally going to be shipped to Britain, and were thus painted in the standard British camo colors. The planes were then sent to China, and the Flying Tigers just used the planes as they were, without repainting them.
RRB: Great work on the P-40! Don't worry I've been doing masking for years and there is ALWAYS some overspray/paint seeping under the mask. And yes Owl's right on the correct paint colours.

Thanks for all the help, but I now have a rather annoying problem, the decal on top of the wing didn't set properly, the front part of the decal didnt stick, what do I do??
try soaking some decal setting solution on it. If that dont work, glue it down with a clear coat brushed where it needs to stick.
Well here are the end results, this lot was ok, for only $8 it was defiently a cheapie. The decals were probably the worst I've ever used and it needed a heap of filler. My airbrush skills are slowly getting better…
Now I'm making a Corsair, but the kit didn't come with USN decals, does anyone have some spares in 1:72?
Here are the pictures -
O
Red Baron, your skills are improving.. Looks good !
2 things.. it looks like you missed some of the seam on the leading edge of the wing, Port side.
2nd, is that it looks like you puttied over the cowl flap opening on the belly, just before the wing root.. That should not be puttied as it opens and closes on the real plane to cool the engine. It should be just an open area there..
Other than those.. looking good.. Keep it up !

That looks very good, RRB! You should try adding a sealing flat coat after you do the decals. That will help hide the decal film and make the markings look painted on.
Oops! RRB, I forgot what the maker your kit was. Airfix??
RRB: Sharp job! Great job on the complex paint scheme. As Owl said you might want to cover up the canopy and give her a quick coat of flat to make the decals blend more. No big deal though, at least you got the landing gear nice and straight- something I still have problems with.
@Baron,
Looking good matey! Arrrr

Thanks, everyone!
Owl - its academy.
P38jl - actually there was not hope there but there was seam, I knew about the flap opening and closing, and I was wonder why there was no flap on this model.
Kermit - thanks, are you into ships?
Baron,
Yes i am me matey! It got me modelling in the first place. Nothing as impressive as a 17th century ship of the line and nothing as scary looking as a german type VII submarine (IMHO).
I'm not so interested in subs to buy one, but they are cool.
the real red baron Thanks, everyone! Owl - its academy. P38jl - actually there was not hope there but there was seam, I knew about the flap opening and closing, and I was wonder why there was no flap on this model. Kermit - thanks, are you into ships?
Looks good tho !
the real red baron Thanks, everyone! Owl - its academy.
1/48? Details, kid. I need details!!
Well I did tell you earlier on in the GB that is was academy 1:72, girl, 1:72!!
the front page has been updated!

That's the best bird I've seen you do, keep it up.

On the Tarmac: 1/48 Revell P-38
In the Hanger: A bunch of kits
Real Red Baron Nice P-40 man !! Your air brushing skills have improved a bunch for sure, and I do see improvement in your over all building skills. Way to go !! What's next up on your bench ?
A sugestion if you dont mind it, I clear coat with future before adding decals then depending if the decals are glossy, most are, I will add another gloss coat over the decals to even the surface shene up then dull coat. If the decals are a matt finish I will go with the final dull coat skipping the second coat of future.
Randy So many to build.......So little time
Reasoned - really? I thought my hurricane was better? But this corsair will defiently be my best!! I'm doing a tri-colour USN scheme but the kit didn't come with USN markings.
Vetteman - lol, I just got home from the LHS with some clear coat! - Testors all-purpose dull coat. What's on the bench at the moment is a Airfix 1:72 F4U Corsair, you wouldnt have any spare 1:72 USN decals would you? Otherwise I might have to have RAF markings on a USN corsair.
Thankyou for all the nice comments!!!
A little slow but I think I just have the canopy and sludge wash to do.
I think I'm going to keep this one relatively clean.
On Ed's bench, ???
68GT: Hey, looking good there!
RRB: Sorry, If you were building in 1/48th I'd probably have some USN decals you could use but they'd likely be too large for 1/72nd.
PS: Cross your fingers the Shark is done soon, couldn't find a pair of wheels the right size to replace the missing one, the Hellcat wheel was too large. Funny, I found wheels off a junked P-51 almost the right size.
lovely bearcat 68GT!
Gamera:
Gamera - Looking forward to that dark shark! Thanks for the offer, how big are the 1:48 decals?
68GT - looks like a mighty fine bearcat!
I hope the lovely miss Owl, doesn't mind me posting this pic of my corsair here, if you want me too take it down I will do so.

you could always post a separate build thread in the aircraft forum.
