Why didnt someone warn me how terrible this Kangam kit?

Its coming along, but nothing actually fits. I feel like im building one kit out of 4 or 5 donor kits.

Ill get there eventually though.

Lots of styrene, lots of filler.

Finally got the masks for the Wildcat!

Just need to resand a crack in the front upper fuselage and seal the wheelbays. Then let the painting begin!

Ok, painting time again Big Smile

...canopy interior colour...

...gray primer...

...flat white upper;

...and lower..

...now the instructions called for a gloss white to sit above the flat white. I decided to go for the FS17875 off-white. It's slightly creamy and contrasts well against a flat white. Will provide some variation against the top layer of ocean gray;

I also used blu-tak to give it a slightly feathered edge.

Cheers

Got on the coat of Ocean gray. The blutak feathering really worked well this time.

The Cat's done. Not the greatest kit (as I had 2 Tamiya kits on the go as well) but pleasant enough to look at all the same. I really should have gotten a more recent mold of a Wildcat but this is fine for now and was quite cheap.

Also I had a radical idea for kit companies to re mold fuselages. Why do they do them as two halves?? Why not let us build it from  a series of rings from nose to tail like they really build aircraft! This would eliminate the seams and the joins could be part of the panel work. Now I wonder who I should write to.....

Cheers

Beautifully done casper. That's a nice lookin wildcat.

Owl, im looking at rattle cans. The hand painted sections were just to get an idea of the colours. Base green (olive green) will be done by hand (since its already done and looks like its sprayed anyway)

It will be done in the tricolour RNZAF Euro 1 scheme.

Then im going to put a 75sqn logo on the belly. In 1969 one of the aerobatic display teams from 75sqn flying Vampires took on the name "Yellowhammers" My aircraft will make out like they kept the name until after they received the F-5's (They went with skyhawks instead, but F-5's were in the running)and they produced a muted display paint scheme.

.

You can see the logo on the side of the intake.

Casper: Wow, she looks fantastic! And how long did it take you? Are you now competing with Femis on how fast you can knock out a quality build? I could build one that fast but it'd look like it was assembled and painted by a dyslexic chimpanzee.

Scorpy: Wow, that looks really cool. Looking forward to seeing how she comes out.

Nice painting, mum should be proudToast

Fine looking Wildcat you got there ,Casper. I like the one folded wing , creates an interesting display. I have a Tamiya 1/48 F4F-3 in the stash. Heard great things about the kit, now to find time to catch up on other projects to one day - build it.

how are things progressing for everyone? I fear my building time will be much lower this semester. With 4 out of my 5 classes being history courses, I have a lot of readings to do!

Good luck with your studies Owl. I always enjoyed my history courses and hated chemistry. And now mostly what I do at work is wet chemistry... Hmm

I'd thought about contributing more than one build to this but too many GBs and too little time Sad

Heres my progress. Decided to silver over the canopy since a pilot would cost more than the kit.

Started on the white disc on the belly. Decided to go with the one tone low viz forest green.

75sqn logo to be painted in the next couple weeks.

Stalled at the moment. Ive got all the framing on the canopy. Pilons on. Im starting to realise why this kit was so cheap. Im at the stage where im putting the last few bits and bobs on. then decals, then mount it.

Ive put it to one side as i dont know how to attach it to the mount.

Heres the mount.

Ive decided to go with 1 tone forest (puke) green scheme. That way the diehard RNZAF guys dont start picking the camo apart (Im posting this on a kiwi forum too.)

The tiki on the belly is gonna be the hard part.

Right now I'm in the process of finishing up an Eduard 1/48 Fokker DR.I for Marc's (wingnut) Great War GB. My He162 will be next, Miss Owl - promise, with pics to go along. Some progress has been made on it already, and after checking the time frame for this GB, looks like there'll be plenty of time for me to git 'er done with time to spare.

First off: Congratulations on making the reader gallery!Toast

But ehm... now that the GB is going to end it's term next month, is there any plans for a second one, or a different kind of GB...? Hey, Somebody has got to pop the question, right?Smile

Yeah which issue and what model?

Ok so here's some progress pics. I hated the engine exhaust on the Tomcat. So I bought the Steel Beach covered ones. They're even set to where one is open and the other is closed like it would be on a parked Tomcat. Here's the pics.
