Good to see that there are still some people on this GB! I've managed to get a bit (little / small / tiny...) of work done on the Tu-160 in the last week or so.

The wings of the Trumpeter Blackjack do swing, but there isn't any mechanism to "join" them as the copious weapons bays get in the way, I'm also doing this one with all the high lift trickery deployed, so the wings cant be anything other than fully extended. In the event that this bird ever has to get moved anywhere, I decided that rather than glue the  inner wing tabs into the body that I would alter them a bit to allow the wings to be removed / refitted as required.

I've opened up the outer end of the mounting "box" & fitted some scrap plastic over the boxes so that the wings can be slid in & out, although I may beef the area up with lashings of Milliput;

The scrap plastic came from two rather expensive cold war relics, which unlike the Tu-160 never made it past the prototype stage, the grey bit is the wing-tip pivot joint from the XB-70 & the white part is the bomb bay liner from a TSR.2;

The wings, flaps, slats & spoilers are virtually complete, with only a wash & final clear coat to go. I tried an off the shelf wash, but was less than impressed with the results - no matter how much I mixed it, it was still to grainy................ Being hesitant about doing an enamel wash (who would want to slosh white spirits over their work?) I tried an wash made with a mixture of draughting ink, water & flow aid, but this ended up staining the clear (future). So as I've been told to & read of about a million times, I made an enamel wash & started sloshing white spirits over the flaps (didn't want to ruin a wing) & WOW - it works so easily & cleans so easily. Guess I should have done what I was advised in the first place!

I also started the main landing gear, which have metal cores to help support this hefty kit when it's finished;

I'm hoping to get the fuselage halves buttoned up pretty soon as other than a little splash of paint here & there & some dry fitting & sanding they can be joined.

Ok here is where I am at with the Mig 15 anyway I am very happy with the cockpit even tho I lost one of the seat belts and the side ejection handles But at least I went and finished it and not chuck the whole thing out of frustration. Things so far to watch for is you will need to trim the instrument console and the front air intake thing to get the side to fit other wise you will have a gap

Here are some more pictures of my BMP. I will probably paint it some time later today. I left the skirts off until after painting.

Here are some WIP pics of my BMP-2D

I did not add the upper part of the tracks, because they will be hidden by the skirts. I'm building this kit straight from the box.

OK guys, this is the best I could do on a Trumpeter SU-15G Flagon, Ukerainian Air Force. Some mistakes were mine, others the kit. I still cannot paint canopies, so please accept my appologies about it!! I feel the canopy was a touch to short anyway.

That La-7 nice, Reasoned.   I wish I could get my panel line washes to be that precise.  It looks as if the landing gear and the rear stabs could exchanged with the MiG-3 as they look so similar.

Echo139er

Ozzman, would it be possible to add the completed kits page number on the main page?  It would make it a lot easier to check out all the completed ones.

There is some great build/building here.

Ditto

also want to put in another kit, the mig 23 1/72 from airfix!!

the sprues

houston we have a cockpit!!!!

but i'm sure i'll use only the ip (if the instruments location are corrects)

test fittings

this time the clear canopy fit decently! only the frames are too weak printed, i'll cut in two after.

not too bad the gears but not comparable to the hasegawa/academy flogger kit

raised panels naturally, but this thime i'll rescribe all.

First work on the exhaust

after i'll scratch the afterburner chamber, i did theses works watching the TV in the kitchen, then i used only cutters and glue.

opened the air intakes below part

also the 80% of panel lines was rescribbed and the front gear well was opened (two millimeters of dept don't seems so real Sad )

At first looking when brought this kit i don't like too much (paid 3 or 4  € ) but it take more intresting with the mods opportunity Stick out tongue , plus the plastic is really good despite the orrible silver color (why used this color on kits??)

that's all for the kitchen session

Well done, Terry, well done indeed.   You've really captured that tired, dirty look.

Well I'm calling on this one for the  moment, I can only go so far because of the fragility of the gun and I have decided to wait until a base i made to finish this one off. All I really need to do is add a few final pieces and tidy up the weathering and bring it all together.

Well on with the pic's....

I think people prefer pics to a page of typing...

I need to get in with the pastels and pigments, plus a small amount of highlighting on the tracks etc. So far I have really just carried out a couple of washes and oversprayed with a very dilute mix of lifecolour dust.

Thanks for looking,

Terry.

Thank bsyamato, I'll have a look at that. I'm also thinking that I could use some sprue to assist alignment in the same way as I did with the cockpit section.

Cheers.

huge plane huge corection needed , just try lots on dry fittings before glue .

a possible tip is to drill in some strategic point the fuselage gluing surface and put some metal pin to avoid unwished movements: the gluing surfase seems enough large to allow this. Good work at all Yes

Slow progress as usual (first to start & possibly last to finish....). I've managed to get most of the wings, flaps, slats & lift dumpers finished & should hopefully get the fuselage buttoned up at some point  in the next 18 years;

The upper & lower forward fuselage parts had some fit issues as previously mentioned;

To sort this I had planned to weld some styrene sheet along the inside length of the upper fuselage side wall & as far round the blended wing root as possible, but on closer inspection noticed that the cockpit floor & side panels fitted that tightly that there wasn't enough spaceConfused

After a bit of head scratching I cut the hidden area of the cockpit floor where the rear consoles are mounted, flattened down some thick sprue & welded it in, giving me a couple of big locator's, which pulled the upper half in enough to give an acceptable joint - it's by no means perfect & there will still be a bit of tidying to be done when it's completed, but is a fair bit better;

While I was at this I removed a strange raised panel on the upper cockpit side (the pink bit is where it was) & rescribed some of the consequent damage. It looks as if someone at Trumpeter was possibly looking at photos of the Blackjack with the rear cockpit side window blinds in the down position & with the blinds being white missed the rear windows altogether, hence the fix & strange raised section?

Now that it's getting close to the point of closing the fuselage up, I'm really pretty stumped about how to join the 4 main fuselage parts. I'm repeating here, but Trumpeter would have you join the upper cockpit section to the upper fuselage section, likewise for the bottom & then join the two "complete" upper & lower halves together - I don't know why, but it looks like a recipe for disaster to me.

I was going to join the cockpit & fuselage sections separately & then join the completed cockpit to the complete fuselage, but I notice that curvature of the upper blended surface doesn't match perfectly between front & rear & will rely on adhesive holding everything flat & smooth........

I think I'll have to do a fair bit of taping & dry fitting to decide on the best method, but any tips or experience regarding similar issues would be appreciated.
