Stik- Looking great! Yesv Can't wait to see it primed and painted next!!!  I am trying to remember if your kit barrel came in two pieces or just one piece?  It looks good too!

Guys- Sorry not much update from me.  Had to work again on a weekend at a conference.  Then the whole family raked those little b@stard leaves off our yard yesterday so I was exhausted.  I did work on the tank commander to attach the wirings to the ear pieces and neck piece (what do you call that?)

I had the chance to stop by a local art store to buy those... I have been hearing only great things about those paintbrushes.  I didn't realize how expensive they are but it was strongly recommended by master figure painters.  W & N Series 7 paintbrushes...

$55 for just three paintbrushes.  Yikes!  Hope they are worth every penny.  I got size 000, 00 and 1 for now.

Another great thing happened over the weekend, we had a mystery dinner theme at the conference and they were serving locally brewed beer.  I had to try this beer 'Dragon's Milk' just for one reason...

It contained 10% alcohol unlike most beer and it was real good I was surprised.  One beer was just enough to get me in good mood after a long day working. Stick out tongue

Cheers! Beer

Hey guys,I got the vehicle finished over the weekend.I still got the 6 figures to add to it.Their not the best pictures, when its totally done i'll either take it outside or set up the photobooth, but here it is for now.For me it was a challenging kit, indie tracks to be seperated from the sprues, cleaned up and assembled, some alterations, and more filling and sanding then I am used to.But I stuck with it and am happy with the results, better pics next time, great campaign Andy.

Carl- I know!  In other forum... those British modelers are so damn good at figures painting and they swore that W&N Series 7 brushes are the way to go.  I will see how they comes out...

You know me... I have ADHD and I get bored easily so I guess I like to try new beer where ever I go. LOL

Anthony-  Your panzer is looking GREAT!!!  Can't wait to add your build to the completed build roster soon.  Take your time with the figures... the slower you work the better you can come out.  It took me three weeks to work on five figures last time. LOL

Appreciate your nice words about my GB.  You know you are always welcome to build another Panzer or maybe a StuG.  It doesn't end til July 1st. Big Smile  Hope we get to close all gaps so we can list all variants at the end.

Andy,,,   that command figure looks good....  great detail on his "hook-ups".    And I agree,    I take forever on figures too..  trying to put my best into the efforts.         Do let us know how you like those series 7 brushes.   I hear Carl and $55 / 3 seems a bit steep, but if you give the ok,,,  I will be on them!        Dragon's Milk Beer,,,    the name sure is different,,,,    , but I remember the first time I tried Carlsberg Elephant beer, I thought the same.       After a few     I didn't care about the name at all,,,  ha!

Anthony,,,  your III looks great,,,  cannot wait to see it draped with the figures!

Enjoy the ride!

Hey all!  Long time no post.  Life has kinda found a way to creep into my modelling time here the past few weeks.  Between work, the wife, remodelling a room in the house, and having been sick I haven't had many long durations at the bench lately.  But most of all we've had a lot of doctors appointments for baby boy #2!!!  The wife is 22 weeks today!  He'll be due on March 20th but, due to our first son's passing, will be delivered by C-section around march 13th!  Thus, not much to show in updates until tonight.

Everyone's builds are looking and look great.  I've been following in the shadows as time has allowed and am impressed!

Finally go some more paint on the Stug.  Decided on the tri color camo scheme with the markings indicating a Stug at Kursk.  An overall wash of WN raw umber, followed by some dot filters, a pinwash of WN raw umber, and (not in the pics) a fliter coat of Migs grey for PZ yellow to tie (hopefully) everthing together.  The tracks are painted and slightly weathered with pastels.

The four pieces of stretched sprue on the front slopes of the hull either side of the manlet are for spare tracks the crew added as extra protection.

Just realized in the following picture how crooked the MG shield is.  Will have to fix that.  The piping in the commanders hatch was added as well as the MP40 and a seat on the right side of the hull.  Clearly it still needs some weathering to tie into the rest of the interior.

Added the rust texture to the mufflers using mr. surfacer 500 and painted with vallejo acrylics.  Pastels will be added for more effect.  Not sure what happened to the PE metal Screen above the mufflers, but lukily I have a spare.

About half of the tools are installed, with the other still awaiting some paint.  The coupola is painted but needs some drybrushing and weathering then will be fit into place.  The other hatch doors are a work in progress.

Sorry for the long post.  Like I said I haven't had an opportunity lately.  Any and all comments, suggestions, or anything you guys see please let me know!

Peace through superior firepower.

Andy , well i'm just giving you a hard time , as you probably know . If those brushes give you the results that you want then their worth it , right ?  I cant say anything about paying a good price for a tool , if the tool does a good job then i forget the price myself . You allready do such a fine job on the figures so i cant wait to see your results with these brushes .Yes

Just wondering how many people take a picture of their beer at the dining table ..............Hmm...............Whistling................Stick out tongue...........................Yes................Beer

Brian- BEAUTIFUL WORK on the camo!!! Yes Yes  You did great doing tri-color often seen in Battle of Kursk or afterward.  It is great having you back.  Yes family comes first just like Carl said.  Please listen to him!  He is a grandpa...

I like the picture with bent left fender... too realistic.  I tried to do that on my stryene parts and they are no where as good as yours.

Take your time and keep us updated when you have the chance.  We were just wondering where you have gone few weeks so I had to send you a message.  Big Smile

I hate to do this but I wanted to remind you to keep it away from your lamps.  I am just being a good friend... Beer

AceHawk, your Stug III is beautiful!!!Stick out tongue Excellent realistic camo job! Yes

Shell, I really like that stowage box that you built! I may have to copy it, if I can't find a suitable box in my spares bin for the same thing on my Mk III.

Shellback - that storage box is HOT! Devil Nice work!

Finally dug the StuG Ausf. A back out off of the shelf - construction was mostly done within a few days of the start of the GB sans tracks - been clipping and cleaning an old set of DML indy links for the past couple evenings, now they're about ready to get wrapped around the sprockets. Pic to come some time soon.

Guys- Finally an update... starting now I should be able to have more bench time since things have slowed down at work.  Sprayed primer on the StuG and figures... Mr Surfacer rules!

80/20 Mr Surfacer 1200/Mr Surface thinner... no details were lost.

Closer shots at the details... that's why I like Mr Surfacer!

Primed figures...

Thanks for looking!

Remember this pic of the rear ? I didnt care for how the dark brown around the cross looked .

So i sanded of the cross .I had to leave the unit marking on because i didnt have another.I repainted the sand color .

Then i repainted the green and used enamel thinner to remove the paint and reveal the unit marking again .

Then i shot the decals with a couple coats of Future and when that dried i sanded the surface to eliminate the decal ridge .

Reshot the area with Future and a coat of Tamiya flat .

I HAVE heard from Boyd...he was here visiting just last weekend. I know that the major (way-early) snowstorm in CT knocked out power to his house for more than a week - put a big kink in his bench and forum time. I'm sure you'll see him around at some point!

Finally ......Whistling.........i have put thetracks and running gear on !Beer

I had the track run glued and painted already so i fit the drive sprocket and idler into it and mounted that on the tank .

Next i mount the return rollers . At this point there is still enough slack to work them into position .I use Elmers white glue instead of c.a.. the white glue sets up slow and gives me time to hastle with getting the parts in position . Any misstakes and the parts are easy to remove and the glue that gets where i dont want it is easily removed with water .

Next is the bottom run . I attach the rollers on either end first while there is still enough slack and then work towards the center .

Tah Dah .....................

After the tracks i attached the stowage box and other odds and ends . Now the next step is the turret ............and a cup of cofee .Coffee

Oh , something i left off before is the two little attachments that  hold the box down in the front .

The back of the box is held down by two bolts that attach to the engine compartment vent covers .

 Onto the turret ..............Yes................Coffee

Dupes- Thanks buddy!  Glad Boyd is OK.  Hope you didn't let him take some of your stash... I'd keep them locked if he was visiting.  Whistling

Carl- WOW!  You are definitely on a roll now!  Loving everything you are doing with your Panzer. Yes Yes Tracks look great!  Nice save on the rear corner.  It looks like you may have it completed in few days?  Can't wait...

Yes, the tools have been glued to my StuG because of those fragile PE clasps.  I figured it would be easier that way.  I did that for my two previous builds and it wasn't too bad using Tamiya tapes or thin piece of papers around the tools if necessary.

Andy,,,,    nice work on the prime. I've used mr surfacer 1200 from a rattle can. I just purchased mr surfacer 1000 in the bottle, as 1200 wasn't available.         Is there really much, noticable, difference?

Carl,,,   you are a machine.       Great job on the decal re-do. Tracks, rollers, roadwheels and stowage box all look excellent too.        When you put your rollers and roadwheels on, do you white glue them onto the tracks, one at a time?    Meaning eyeball position, then slip the whole assembly on (with the wheels) then glue onto the tracks,,,,  followed by the next and the next and so on?

Enjoy the ride!
