Boyd-  I am glad you are still working on the StuG E.. can't wait to close that gap for Ausf E.  I figure now all gaps will be closed except for Ausf F as we have guys working on theirs at this moment.  I am working on Ausf F/8 so is it technically the same thing? Whistling   Four more months to go!!!  Do I smell a final push at the end?  Big Smile

Looking forward to see your update!

Chazzer- It is GREAT having you back!  How is your health and everything?  It is OK to lurk as long as you drop by few times a day.  Kidding!  I have to say your figures look great!  I thought you hated doing figures but I am impressed with your work on the figures.

Love the boxes!  I like what you are planning... go for it!  Yes

Finish the pin wash, lower hull is still a little wet, next up dry brush then some MIG dark mud (weathering). Hope to have the Pz III Ausf J. initial production finish this weekend. What other vehicles are still needed .... Armor86

Deafpanzer -- this was a GB I was hoping to join if I have time. I see you're doing an all-variants type build. Could you handle a Tamiya Ausf J in either grey or yellow, a Dragon StuG III F/8 in grey or a Tamiya StuG III/G with zimmerit and possibly winter camo?

Just throwing out some possibles as I seem to be chewing through a few builds here and with four months to go anything is possible!

Cheers, Mike/TB379

Armor86- Jeez, your Pz III is looking GREAT!  I like the wood box in the rear. Yes  I can't see anything you need to improve on... everything is spot on.  Can't wait to see it weatherized up and add it to the hall of fame.

I remember how much you love Pz IIIs so if you want to build another one that would be awesome.  I will re-post the variants list in a minute then we can review to see which gaps need to be filled.  It would be NICE if we can close all gaps before GB ends.  Stay posted buddy...

Thunberbolt- Welcome aboard!  Correct me if I am wrong we were in 8 Wheels GB years ago?  If so that was fun and it was my first GB. Big Smile  Yes, you can build anything you want... however if you have a kit in stash that could help us close the gap that would be GREAT!  I am going to re-post the list next...

Four months to go... plenty of time! Wink

Thunderbolt- You listed Pz III Ausf J earlier.  Our GB list shows it is still empty so it would be AWESOME if you can go for it. Yes  Nachtfighter has signed up but I believe he hasn't started.

Guys- I reviewed the GB list and it is really looking GOOD!!! Big Smile  There are at least 11 builds going on right now and several of them are almost complete. We may end with at least 15 completed builds by June.

So far only two Pz III variants are open or haven't started building... Ausf J and K.  I won't count Ausf A,B.C.D because no kits out there except for an expensive resin kit from Italy asking for $125+/- I checked last time.

StuG variants are looking good too.  Only two variant hasn't been started which is Ausf C/D and Ausf F,  I will check with Ben Hinksy if he is still planning to build it as his third entry or not.  Anybody got Ausf F kit?  Whistling

I need to check with Phil H if he is still planning to work on Tauchpanzer III.  Dupes has started his work on A-P III.

Chazzer- AWESOME!!! YesYes  Was aware you were about 95% completed with your StuG B and i cant wait to close that gap for good.

You are a life saver!  Because of this I am allowing you post more of those pictures from the special reference book. Whistling

Guys-  It means only one more StuG variant... Ausf C/D.  Hinksy has signed up as maybe for his third build for this GB.  I have emailed him this morning so I will keep you posted.

Because of you guys it has been a great GB and it is still alive and kicking... Beer

Deafpanzer -- yep, that's right, Achtraden was also the first group build I ever organised, and I look back on it very fondly!

Right, in that case I'll start my Tamiya III/J today, it it's anything like the StuG III based on it, it'll fall together almost by itself.

I have a Dragon StuG III F/8 mit Ostketten that I started for the Ostfront GB but never completed, those L&L tracks put me off every time I looked at them, and I have yet to find vinyl Ostketten to replace them with (anybody know of some and wanna swap???). However I might bite the bullet and tackle the beast... Let's see how I go with the J!

Many thanks, glad to fill a gap,

DP -- I just pulled the kit off the shelf and it's not the -J, it's the -L and you already have five of those completed so far. Soreeeee....

Andy - the only StuG variant I'm missing is the E (guess that means I'd better find one?), and Boyd's got that under control. As far as Pz.III's, it looks like I can cover just about anything that isn't already completed (with the exception of the bergepanzer). Once we hit the one month mark, we can review and I'll bang out one of whatever is still missing.

As far as the Pz.Beobswg.III Ausf. H, I think you can call it done and use one of the pics I had up on the last page (your choice). I'm going to enter it in the spring shows in the next few weeks and see how it does with minimal weathering...if I get totally shot down, I'll hit it a bit harder and re-enter it in the fall to see if things work out better that way.

Mike- I thought so!  That was great GB... like I said it was my first GB but it was also my first armor build Dragon 234/1 and now this is my first time hosting a GB.  Alot of firsts here... glad you could join us.  No worries about Ausf J... Ausf L sounds GREAT!  Feel free to build something you want. Yes

I am building a StuG III Ausf F/8 and my kit didn't come with winterketten tracks so I ordered a set from Friulmodel... I know it was expensive but I fell in love with it.  You can find my WIP I posted earlier and I am not sure which page now.  I'd be more than happy to post pictures of Friulmodel tracks if you wish.

Dupes- Now I am confident that we will build all StuG variants since Chazzer has stepped up to build an Ausf F.  I hope Ben is still planning to do Ausf C/D... keep your fingers crossed.  Like you, I'd love to see all  gaps closed. Big Smile

Can't wait to see Boyd's next update on his StuG E. I will update to include your Ausf H to the hall of fame tomorrow.  Fighting a cold again right now. Ick!

Thanks for being a great team player!

Andy, I was thinking the same as Dupes. I've got the Dragon C/D also. If we have no takers by the time I finish the "F". I can also do the "C/D". I can do a "power build" like the Matilda, but under better circumstances!  Whatever is needed.

Chazzer- Sounds like a good plan.  We will see what Ben says... I know he has few builds going on.  Remember I am your fearless GB leader and I can always extend the deadline by a month if we need so we can close all gaps. Devil  (evil laughter)

Dupes- I have updated to include your Ausf H to the Hall of Fame... thank you so much again! Beer  Now you can have the GB badge tattooed on your chest since it was your second build.  Two in a row from Dupes factory! Yes

Guys- The build list has been updated to include Chazzer for StuG Ausf F.  Also I just realized I made a mistake with the list as I had detailfreak down for Pz III Flammpanzer but he is doing Bergie and Pz III Ausf N so it means Flammpanzer slot is now vacant. Whistling

Guys- I had fun going thru the whole GB thread... 118 pages of them.  I had a feeling that I may have missed a build and sure enough I did.  Malone Duke finished his Pz III Ausf N and it only needed steel cables. Never forget the beautiful camo he did...

http://i1117.photobucket.com/albums/k593/malone123/S__F901.jpg

I am going to call it done if it is all right with you, Malone Duke?  Are you still working on your build Pz III Ausf K?  If so, that would be great because that gap is still vacant.  Satch IP signed up as his second so I need to check with him too.

No problem if someone else wants to hit the C/D, and also no problem if I need to hit the Flammpanzer - got that one in the stash as well (of course!).

dupes- Oh yes I forgot you are married now. LOL That Flammpanzer sounds like a fun build.  Let's see if somebody wants to take on either StuG C/D or Flammpanzer.

Guys- Thought you would like to know this...  To date 13 builds have been completed and at least 14 builds have started pending completion by July.

Deafpanzer - It's done ... used some dark mud (MIG) and once dry, brush away until I think it's right, finally went back over the vehicle with a mixture of dark mud and light dust to finish it up. Photo below after initial application, when its still wet.

Apply dark mud using more water along up fenders and build it up.

Back end lower hull same technique

Left it over night to dry and then brush the road wheels, lower hull, track to remove until I felt it looked about right. Photos below after bushing and then applied mix light dust and dark mud on top side upper hull and turret.

I have the Dragon / DML 2 in 1 Smart Kit 6463 (Pz III Ausf. J) and can build with either long or short 50 mm. Likely can't start for a week or so and should finish by mid-July. Armor86

That's a hot build right there - REALLY like how your weathering came out, as well as your spare tracks...just the right amount of rust & dust.

Check another one off the list!

Armor86- WOW! Yes Beautiful build... agree with guys about your weathering job.  I am so glad you have signed up because you and everybody else has made this GB fun.

This is my favorite shot of your Panzer...

Of course you can tell me which picture you want me to use in our Hall of Fame.  Maybe take another picture with nothing in the background or take it outside.

As of now nobody has signed up for Pz III Ausf J, it is yours if you are interested.  Like I said I can extend our GB little longer if we really want to close all gaps.  Right now, Pz III J, Pz III K, Flammpanzer and StuG III C/D are vacant.  Like Dupes said, he will take one of them.  I might too.  I need to check with Satch Ip if he is still planning to do Ausf K.  So it looks like Ausf J is still available at the end...

Just let us know if you are interested to take on Ausf J.  It will be FUN and trust me we will stay with you til the end.

Armor86- Yes, I like the pictures much better... thank you for doing this.  I like the first picture best so I will use that for the hall of fame rooster if you are cool.

I am so happy that you have decided to build Pz III Ausf J!  It means there are only three vacant slots left...

  • Panzer III Ausf K
  • Flammpanzer
  • StuG C/D

Dupes offered to take one of them.  There is a local model show Roscoe Turner IMPS coming up this weekend I will keep eyes for an Ausf K kit. Maybe a Flammpanzer?  I will work with Dupes... anybody else interested for the challenge?

Just checked out all three of those boxes...the Ausf. K and StuG C/D would be OOB builds, but the Flammpanzer has an RB Barrel, Eduard etch set, and a box o' Friuls if that influences you at all Andy.

Dupes- Oh boy you do have everything in your stash? HUH? Stick out tongue  That Flammpanzer kit sounds like a fun build but it is your call.  You recently built a Pz III and StuG so maybe you are in a flaming mood to build a Flammpanzer. LOL

Why don't we wait until this weekend after my trip to a local model show... 'Roscoe Turner' IMPS.  So we can see what I can find something... I am really itchin' to build a Pz III so hopefully I can find an Ausf K kit at the show.

I will forget about Panzer III Ausf E that I signed up as my second build because Mike (Streetfightingman) is still working on his Ausf E but it was put on hold because of school study and he said he will finish it before GB ends.  I talked with him recently and he got 4.0 GPA and he has been accepted to University of Wisconsin which is great for him.

Ogrejohn will be there so he will help me look for an Ausf K... John, hope you are reading this... Whistling

Hi DP,

I might have a combo to offer that might not have appeared yet -- a StuH 42 with waffle zim (never done that one before) in winter scheme (nor that) and mud (nor that) with schkurtzen and figures...

Interesting?
