Andy - I have extra PE from the Voyager and Eduard sets for the Tamiya kit and wanted to also build a Dragon kit side by side for comparision and PE part swapping.

the cyberhobby kit 6510 is one of the weird White Box offerings from DML: a Pz.Kpfw.III Ausf.J Command Tank and Borgward IV Ausf. B (remote control engineer vehicle (e.g. explosive layer) and control device to the kit.) I got it for in a massive SB sale 3 years ago, was down to about 20$ (goes for 60+ usually). I actually blame my massive life-long-to-build  Dragon stash mountain on Sprue Brother's sales....

I also have the CH Orange Box Flammpanzer III (kit 9113) if Dupes has too many builds to do (which is an oxymoron, man is a build machine!).

The only Tauchpanzer I have is Pz IV chasis.

Just curious, does the yellow mean that we are not worrying about an Ausf. A, B, C, or D or does it mean you are looking for someone to build one? I have looked at every scale and every maker I can think of, and I don't think one exists. Kind of surprising, given that some kitmakers are making kits of tanks that never even existed!

Hey guys,

Sorry for my general lack of participation. I've been around, but have not had a ton to say, so have not posted much. Everyones work in the GB looks great. I should have been offering due props all along, and that is another thing I apologize for.

As I promised, here is a pic of my completed Stug III E. I went for a pretty light weathering on it, which was a bit of a departure from what I've been doing with my recent builds. To me, though, there is just something about a relatively clean Panzer Grey that I like. So here it is.

It was a nice, easy build.  A few trouble spots, but nothing that could not be overcome with proper attention.

And, for those curious, here is a pic of my current armor project...

Wheeled is not too big of a departure for me, but modern presents some new challenges. Nice little kit. Lots of parts, but if you take your time, they go together like a breeze...

Hi guys,

I heard back from Cavalier and they were having a supply difficulty, but the new stock is about ready and they promise dispatch soon! StuH 42 in standby mode!

Cheers, Mike/TB379

You have Flammpanzer?!?!  It would be GREAT if you can build it instead because that gap is still vacant.  We all can work it out to see that all gaps to be closed and we will check with Dupes about this.

Thanks for the info about kit... interesting about remote control vehicle.  I am always learning something.  It is your build and you go for it if you really want to build it.  I will add it under variant and treat it as a special  vehicle if you wish.

StreetFightingMan-  Yes, correct... I had few gaps marked yellow because of in availability of kits in the market.  Nobody makes for Ausf A/B/C/D.  I found a resin kit but it is very expensive... $125 coming all the way from Italy I recall.  Two other variants Minenraumer III and Soviet SU-76i marked yellow too.  BUT DaveB surprised us when he signed up to a scratchbuilt SU-76i based on Pz III chasis and he has been doing a great job!!!

Mike/TB379- Great news about your Zimm order.  I am glad my nasty emails to Cavalier to process your order sooner helped. LOL Only kidding...

Boyd- Great looking StuG III E!!!  We have to remember all of armors came out of the factory clean and new... I dig your work on the wood handles!  Beer  I forgot what kind of tracks did you use for this?

I will add this great picture to the 'Hall of Fame' roster and cross off StuG III E off the list.  Thank you so much for being part of this GB and it was fun having you aboard.  Hope we can do it again one day!

Guys- In case you didn't hear about this, Boyd won an award at recent model show with this StuG.  You see it doesn't have to be over weatherized or dirty to win awards.

This sucker is straight OOB. Those are the DML Magic Tracks. Funny thing is, that is the first time I've ever used them (not indy links, but Magic Tracks specifically). They were easy.

Boyd- I am with you about Magic Tracks! Yes  They looked great on your StuG.  It helps me a lot when my Dragon kit comes with MT set saving me about $35-$40 for not buying an aftermarket set so I can spend more on PE upgrade sets. Whistling

I AGREE!!!  So far 16 have been built.  8 have been started and most of them are very close to completion.  Hoping for great results when this GB ends...

I predict two more builds will be completed and posted within a week or two.  Remember AceHawk Driver and his StuG III G.  He PM'ed that it is completed and he will post it when he has the chance.  His wife had a baby boy last month and they are doing OK now.  Be sure to give him the cigar when he returns... Hey all!  As Andy said, I'll be posting (hopefully) soon some pics of the StuG Ausf G.  It's been a wild ride with our second son being born on the 9th of March.  Due to breathing issues he was Lifelined to Indianapolis to Riley Childrens Hospital (awesome place) 36 hrs after being born.  He's home now and has been since the 28th of March, and doing great!  The only problem now is getting everything at home caught up from our absence and the lack of sleep.

I've been following along, but haven't been able to post due to work and our little one.  I'm not sure about a cigar though Andy.  Maybe a couple valium though!

Will post pics ASAP.

Peace through superior firepower.

Hi Guys,

After seven weeks away from home (and the workbench), I'm finally back home and looking forward to finishing my SU-76i. ANDY, did you extend the duration of the build? I was thinking I only had until the end of this month and would really have to burn the midnight oil the next couple weeks to finish.

Brian- Again congrats!!!  I am happy to hear that your son and wife are doing better now.  Take your time and post your completed StuG III G when you have the chance as long as we know that gap for Ausf G is officially closed.  Whew!!!  Funny... several people signed up for Ausf G but you are the only one so far. Stick out tongue

And don't forget to post a pic of your baby son too.  I will look around to see if there is a cigar filled with valium. Big Smile

Bill- Always happy to see you stopping by!  It isn't over til the fat lady sings... hope I said it correctly! Stick out tongue

DaveB-  Hope you have read my comment about your surprise build.  Really looking forward to see the result.  We still have about three months left as it doesn't end til July 1st but I will probably extend it thru the summer if it helps.  So I can finish my second build Pz III Ausf K...

Armor86- Loved the pictures!  Will definitely use them as a reference.  Wish we know who built it!  He sure did a great job.  Thanks for sharing... appreciate it! Beer

Guys- I get to play Mr Mom til Sunday morning... I am hoping for more bench time especially that the weather is supposed to be ugly and wet over the weekend.  Y'all have a great weekend!

DaveB- Six weeks?  Have fun catching up! LOL  Oh yes I plan to attend AMPS but probably only on Friday.  John (ogrejohn) might come too.   Can't wait... hope you have enough cash to buy me some kits, right? Wink

Actually this time I will try not to buy kits (maybe one or two) and I want to spend money on aftermarket sets and of course AK & Vallejo sets if they are selling.

Panzer III GB Update - Ausf J Late
Posted by armor86 on Sunday, April 15, 2012 1:23 AM

Update photos, finished up rear lower hull, thinned edges of shields ... couple spots need minor attention.

Filled seam associated with the idler adjuster ... some more work needed on filling seams ....

Other side coming along ... minor filling and sanding.

Sample B/W photo of a Pz III Ausf L with extra armor plates, however noted missing gun plate.

amor86- Nice process on your Ausf J.   Looks like you are done with lower hull that you will be attacking top next?

Nice picture of the Ausf L!  Looks like it was taken in Africa?  Notice the cactus in front or is it a debris?

Hey All.  Sorry it's been awhile since last posting.  A lot of great work going on in here and I apologize for not being able to post.  First things first. . . .

Here's the reason.  Born on March 9th, 8lb. 7oz., 20 1/2".  Riley devloped breathing issues and had to be lifelined to Indianapolis 36 hrs after birth.  He spent a total of about 18 days in the NICU at Riley Childrens Hospital and was able to come home on March 28th.  Since then he's successfully kept his Mom and Dad awake every night.

On to the StuG.  Finally was able to complete the StuG III Ausf G Early.  I'm not 100% sold on the final presentation, but it's at the stage where if "I just do one more . . . ." it'll only hurt it more.  I'm calling this one complete.  Some pics are below.

Was intending to have a nice base for this one completed as well but I think for now she'll have to sit on a simple one due to time constraints (with the kiddo).

I'll keep checking in from time to time and watching the builds be completed.  Thanks to Andy for letting an online newbie take part!

As always comments and criticisms are always welcome!

Peace through superior firepower.

Brian- Once again congrats for both... beautiful baby boy and beautiful StuG!!! Yes Yes

Your work doesn't reflect a newbie at all and I hope you can come back to do another great build.  This is my fav shot of your StuG because we can see the stowage in the rear.   Let me know if you are OK so I can post it in our Hall of Fame roster.

Thank you so much for being part of the GB especially now we can close that StuG III Ausf G gap officially.  Beer

Gentleman,

Although it's not a Pz III, I just noticed that a photograph of a model I built appears in the online FS Reader Gallery for March 15 (/media/p/1552623.aspx)

BaBill212:  Thanks!  Its been a long road to get him home but it's worth it!  I agree he's the best lookin' thing i've "built" in awhile.

Malone duke:  Thanks!

tigerman:  Thanks!  We're excited to have him home.  Almost had a snap tite kit ready for him when he got home but the wife didn't think it was appropriate!  Silly wife.

Andy:  Thanks for having a fellow Hoosier on here!  It's been a lot of fun and will definitely be around.  Wish I could make it to AMPS this year but due to my brothers wedding Super Angry I doubt it will happen.  The pic choice is fine with me, glad to be able to close the gap for you!

Peace through superior firepower.
