It feels like slow progress, but that is what I get for doing so many figures, and 2 guns, 2 horses, sheez what was I thinking! hehehe Banged Head [banghead]

The scratchbuilding for the horses is going to be difficult, or at least it appears that way. Once I start I have a feeling it will go ok. I have to hookup two horses to a single limber, and the kit only gives you the basic parts with an ( * ) indicating parts to be scratchbuilt... DOH!

I'll try to get a better set of pictures for the next posts.

i show all model pictures w/ horses to my pony-crazy girlfriend,
and she almost always points out errors in the tack! [:0]Evil [}:)]
what do you call a 'rivet counter' for horse stuff? Big Smile [:D]
(i call her 'Chris', or 'honey', but i think there might be another word for it) Tongue [:P]

i did some paint chipping on the Pak.
just a bit of poking w/ a very dry grey brush.
i am going to have to pick up the pace if i truly intend to get the Quad started & finished in time!

Larry,
i am sure she would answer any questions that she can on tack.
(she is not a draught horse expert - but she understands the
fundamental 'mechanics' of bridles, bits, whatever.)

i showed her the box for the Dragon 2.8 cm AT gun w/ horse
and she had some questions abt the box art and how the horse was connected to the towed gun.

BUT - i do not think there will be any 'hooking up w/ Muzzleflash! Evil [}:)]Big Smile [:D]

on my Pak 40 last night - i used the white microbrush (superfine?) to
put on the dark green camo stripes/lines/blobs.
still procrastinating on the figures.

yes, i feel bad for my crew.
all their arms still on the sprue!
i DID glue the torsos onto the 2 that are 'cut in half'.
but i have to work out the 'geometry' of the gun to figure out how to position the arms.
am going away for the holiday.
it does not look good for the gun crew!

can't find my camera!!! The gun is done and weathered and i just finished figure 1 out of 3.

The kit came with some ammo. Does anybody know what colors the ammo and casing would be.i know there will be brass, but i need the other part. I looked around and found that it might be black.is this right?

Larry:

Been studying the bogeys & found a glitch.

Parts B34 & B35 are really cables, not rods. The way they are in the kit is for the firing position & they are used to help hold wheel/axle assembly up. In transport position, they are unhooked at the upper end & attached to a hook on each upper bar of B8 -- there are no hooks on B8 in the model.

At this point, I'm ignoring it all.

Progress on my 155 is a byproduct of everything else at this point. I'm doing brake hose on the bogeys, but not very fast. I want to use a couple pieces (& just a couple) of Eduard PE on the trails, so I need to build them up & then cut the stuff from the trails. That has got me held up everywhere because I don't want to mount the trails to the carriage until I've got the PE done.

A group build is when a bunch of us will buils the same thing or category or battle. There are some guidelines like start and end dates but Gb's are more for fun than anything!

I put the OD on my gun today -- I really want it completely painted by June 6! Unfortunately, I don't have paint handy to do the tires, which are just blackprimed, so I'm going to have to go back and repaint OD on the wheel parts after the tires are painted (I'll use a template to do the middle section, so I have to paint the tires first).

Anyway, here's the gun so far. As you can see, the gun has assumed the position on the rug. When I saw these pics, I immediately ran to the kit to see of the gun barrel is really drooping like it looks in the photos. Oh no, another problem! But it isn't. It's perfectly straight. Weird, huh? I wonder why it looks droopy in the pics?

This is the AFV Club 8" howitzer wearing the Masters Productions aftermarket junk.

John, I may go back and add the breaklines later. I am on a self-imposed schedule to get this thing done by June 6! I'm going to try to do all but final road weathering on it, which I will apply to the gun and the Mack NO together.

A Nag? oops.

Absolutely nothing done for weeks on the little Pak 36 I'm doing for this build. The trailing legs on my kit are offset moulded and I'm waiting for the LHS to get a supply of Evergreen rod in so I can get the right size to replace them. He expected the shipment in last week. A supplier in town has them in stock, so I might have to do a day trip and take my 4 year old to the Museum so I can duck into the store and get the rod (what the wife doesn't know won't hurt ME)

Good to see some nice pics being posted on the bigger stuff.

I'm taking a little break from working on my Mack NO, which I've been doing for hours. There's not much else I can do on the big howitzer until I get the tires painted, so I may as well.

An all-resin truck has got a looootta pieces, my friends. So far I'm happy with the build though. Pieces are mostly all well-cast, even though the instructions are (surprise surprise) less than perfect, and some of the pieces are, IMO, unnecessarily fiddly.

Maybe I'll try to post a pic in-progress tonight when I pack it up. Every once in a while I pick up the gun and stare at the barrel from all angles. It's completely straight. Pretty weird. One thing that will not go away, though, and that's the powdery texture left on the surface of the gun from the crap black primer I used. Kinda a shame, as I've put a lot of work into this gun .... Grumpy [|(]

Great progress on the gun !! I'm thinking of switching to an assembly line diorama so I can show all my bits & pieces .... <grin> I am seriously behind schedule now, the HST is probably next years project at this rate ...

John, I don't know how helpful this is going to be, but here's what Verlinden offers as a color pic of their 105mm set:



Then again, I don't even know what time period that ammo is for. But I wonder how much the 105 howitzer ammo actually changed -- we used that gun for decades.
