 carsanab:

actually the lit  Rufe is 1/48...not 1/32

Ah thought it was. I guess I could try to put the electronics in a 1/48th P-47 but I want to give myself plenty of room.

PS Doogs posted the same time as me, but I'll second him here. I'd love to see a thread on your tips.

..OK...here are a couple of pics of my "tips".......

 Gamera:

Thanks Bsyamato, went back and re-edited it to change Big-Zs build and way less lag, seems to be working better all around.

I'd kicked around the idea of putting an electric motor to turn the prop and lights on my 1/32 Hasegawa P-47D. Figured there would be a lot of room in there for all the parts. I love what Big-Z has done here, thinking and thinking about it... Hmm

let me know....I will send you the info....and more tips.

Honestly I'd be interested as well...purely academic at this point but who knows down the road. You should start a thread on it.

Thanks! I'm working on two 1/48th P-47s on Doog's P-47 first to build up more experience before I tackle the 1/32nd one so I don't know when I'll get to it but probably not anytime soon.

Carsanab and Reasoned, I'm going to try and imitate your paint chipping technique on my George.  I've got paint and decals on.  I think I'll try to get a little flat coat on and then get the silver pencil out.  Boy, that front page is impressive.  My George is looking a little paltry right now.  I've got some work to do.  Rick

I use the pencil after the decals and after a coat of flat clear...the flat give some "tooth" for the pencil and also seals the decals...if the finish is gloss its tougher to work with. After that a shot of semi gloss and some light washes and a final flat or another semi gloss depending on the final finish I want......good luck!!!!

Posted by Gamera on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 8:28 PM

Guys,

I went back and cleaned up the roster page. Switched out to smaller photos and everything seems to work fine now. Placed links from each model to the page with the photos. If any links or broken or anything needs to be changed yell at me please. Big Smile

Big G...I built this one about year and a half ago....It was an experiment in two techniques.....one the worn down weathering.....and two...playing with fiber optics...and yes..I'm proud of my floatie thingies...Stick out tongue Embarrassed

awesome lights on Carlos Stick out tongue i fear to try these things even if my beloved father was an electrician and eventually i have right tools to do Tongue Tied

you know I had the same fear...until I looked into it....these fiber optics are SO easy to work with. They are plastic strands... 1mm thick or more....and just connect to an LED on a switch that already comes prewired for a 9v battery( the square ones) Theres a heat shrink sleave that goes over the LED and the fiber ends,,,just run the fibers inside the wings or fuselage...secured with tape...try it...you will be surprised

DoogsATX

Alright, Gamera...sign me up!

Never had any interest in building a Japanese aircraft until I saw Trey's marvelous builds. A sliver of interest became an itch I just had to scratch.

Put me down for Tamiya's 1/48 Ki-84 Hayate. Not sure on the scheme yet - got the epic Sky Models decal sheet with markings for something like 24 different aircraft.

Not sure when I'll start yet - currently got my hands full with a pair of Jugs and a Fiat G.55. But definitely planning this one for the nearish future...

Welcome to the madness that is all things Japanese. Once the madness grips you will not be able to stop at one.

Big-Z: If you want to post the updated photos here I think we can always use some more inspiration!

Doogs: Good to have you! Just remember you don't have to build as many or as fast as Trey. Wink And take your time- you've got nine months so you have plenty of time for your own GB and Tigermans before you tackle the Ki-84.

Guys, tomorrow evening I'll see about getting SAR's photos fixed and Satchs posted to the front page. My home ISP is way faster than the work one and makes it much easier and faster to post and change photos.

Cool Zero Satch. Very ingenious way to weather.

Carlos, I dig the lighting on the Rufe.

Satch: For something you started on a whim she turned out a beauty! Great build and the worn paint looks really convincing. Only nitpick I have is that in the second to last photo the landing gear looks a little crooked, it may just be the angle of the photo though. If it is off it should be pretty easy to fix and in no way detracts from the beautiful model you have here.

Great to have you and if you should decide to do another you're more than welcome!

Cliff

Big-Z: Super job on the Rufe. Don't think I've seen her before. Love that worn weathered paint look.

2011 is officially closed out.  Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you the Tamiya 1/48th A5M5c of CPO Takeo Tanimizu, 203rd AG, 303rd Sq, Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan, June 1945.

Build was the old Tamiya kit from 1983, OOB except for Master Model guns and pitot tube.  Colors are Tamiya IJN Green and IJN Gray, the cowl is Vallejo black with some Sea Blue and Intermediate Blue added.  The aluminum undercoat is MM Aluminum.   Tamiya Yellow on the leading edge.

The kit decals worked pretty well.  They laid down nicely with Micro Set and Micro Sol.  I used a green wash to tone down the aluminum to green transition.  Some chipping on the engine cowl.

I joined this GB on a whim because I needed something easy to do while I was working on two frustrating projects.  I had a few Japanese kits in the stash and grabbed it.  It has started a renewed interest in the Pacific Theater and Japanese subjects.  It led me to a terrific book, Downfall: The End of the Japanese Empire.

Thanks for hosting and looking.  There is some truly amazing work here.

Ive done that before too....you can say its another way to skin the cat...(Le Meouw)..I did my Rufe that way some time ago.....I painted a base of grey-green first then wiped away the green top coat...its a slow process but good results....

http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u3/carsanab/closeup.jpg

That's exactly what I was going for.  I guess I need a little practice on the execution.  Nice job.
