In my best Manny, (cough cough) "I want to take your cherry blossom and slam it into the nearest Essex-class carrier." (chuckle)

I've never seen one done in those colors. Fascinating (Spock).

Doogers, I'd go with number 1 too, but I so love the home-defense markings. I've never heard of blue before. Huh?

Hey ladies! Check out my cherry-red, hot-rod, flying bomb Wink

I'm assuming that's an experimental version- if I were an AA gunner on an American or Australian ship the first plane I'd shoot would be the bright red one. Kinda draws the eye...

you are correct my hard shelled cousin......this is the trainer version...actually its a glider hence the front skid....of course no rockets in the back and it carried a water ballast weight in the front instead of the warhead....painted trainer orange....just like those 2 seater zeros.....

Gamera

Big-Z: Great news, looking forward to seeing them.

Bsyamato: From the paint scheme she's one of the Mitsubishi zeros. On the Nakajima ones the light grey underside paint swept up at a steeper angle to the tail.  The angle is bad here but you can kinda see it on the box art here:

http://i852.photobucket.com/albums/ab85/Tempest977/Rising%20Sun%20Group%20Build/Tamiyazeroboxart.jpg

I have read that the Mitsubishi interior green was a yellowish green that looks to me almost like USAAF interior green or green zinc chromate. The Nakajima planes it was close to the colour you had. The wheel wells I think were aotaki (metallic blue-green) on both. Oddly the aotaki was interesting - it started out blue but as it aged and weathered it turned more green.

I may be wrong on any of this- new information is coming out every day.  I don't think you'd have any problem if you painted it either way from anyone but the rivet counters.

Doogs: Very cool, and I have always liked the green blotches over the NM scheme.

Thanx Cliffi'll switch the cockpit then with a different mix to the mitsubishi standard green Yes for the wells will use the Carsanab method Yes don't want to get a rivet counter zero but sure not too wrong Smile

Great Ohka Carsanab YesYes waithing for more angles Stick out tongue

 DoogsATX:

Ki-84 markings arrived today. I'm leaning toward either 1 or 4. Have to admit the stripes have me a bit freaked out, but dang is that a cool scheme.

Big-Z: Ohhhhhh, super job there. Love the orange! Sorta like the X-1 except at the end of the flight the Baka explodes...

Doogs: All of those look really sharp to me. I've met the guy that runs Empire City at a show a couple years back. Real nice guy and I've picked up several of his sheets both because I like the subjects and to help him out. I've used one of the sheets and the decals worked really well.

The markings come from Empire City Decals...I believe they're available in all three scales, but I'm doing the Tamiya 1/48. Believe it or not - the blue actually looks like Ocean Gray on the profile sheet, and is written up in the description as green (WTF is that about?)

Been out of the loop for awhile, but back now after a VERY relaxing 7-day cruise to the Caribbean!! ( Cool Yeah I know, but somebody has to do these things).

Anyway,  my personal choice would be #4 just because you don't see many blue Japanese aircraft and I like the squadron marking on the tail.  Of course #1 is pretty cool too, but matching that yellowish green might be a bit 'interesting'.

By the way, who makes the decal sheet and waht scale is your Ki-84??

Honestly dunno . the variant is the A6m2b squad is 201st kokuta, tobera airfield, east new britain, papua new guinea, 1944. So the box talk, also the camouflage i never see before, heres the rear box

http://i405.photobucket.com/albums/pp139/bsyamato/modellismo/WW2%20aircraft/a6mb2%20zero%20airfix%207/100_9862.jpg

see lots of vaviants on the web about the green inner color, some seems as i did but others one are really near to the 78 cockpit green pure without mixing.

Need to investigate about Stick out tongue

Depends on who made it. Nakijimi or Mitsubishi

I ..I usually lay down a silver base then thin the blue a bit...it will give you the transparancy effect and you can "pool" a bit along the edges..

GRL

this will perfect for the wells Yes

p.s. break the control stick when painted the cockpit!!! Bang Head

BAHAHA: The corruption of Doogs has begun!!! Devil

I know you're up to your neck in stuff already but when you do get to that Ki-61 I'd love to see how she goes. Don't know if she's quite as good as those other 1/32 kits you built recently but I've heard nothing but rave reviews of the model.

Well, she has to be better than the Fiat G.55 I'm battling right now. I'm having a blast with the Italian stallion, and it's amazing for a limited-run kit, but good god are the issues abundant. I'm kind of realizing that the reason I dig well-executed kits is because the kits that need...help (being generous)...stress me out something fierce.

The Ki-61's rep is actually the main reason I jumped on it. Everything I've read says it's among Hasegawa's best.

I use the Tamiya cockpit green,,,,,seem to be the best match....and for Aotake...Model Masters is a nice match too...I usually lay down a silver base then thin the blue a bit...it will give you the transparancy effect and you can "pool" a bit along the edges..

Bsyamato: Ouch, hope you're feeling better soon. Is your Zero one of the Nakajima ones? The paint looks perfect if so. I think the Mitsubishi ones were slightly more greenish though.

Doogs, you're killing me. LOL Nice score and great subject. I can't wait to see what you do with her. Are you going for home defense markings? (my favorite)

Honestly I have no idea. Japanese aircraft are a near-total blindspot for me. Though I am intrigued by the green blotches over bare metal scheme. Will have to see what my options are when the box arrives.

Once you get the bug you won't be able to stop...I went on a Japanese buying spree and bought all sorts of IJN and IJA kits.

I haven't even started my entry for this one and y'all are already a bad influence.

Scored one of these off eBay yesterday...

1/32, with brass armament set.

Not sure if I'll be able to squeeze it in before September, but maybe...
