Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE

I  did a couple marathon sessions over the past couple days to get a good start on the HiPM SdKfz 231 6Rad. I didn't think to take any photos until I got to this point but there really wasn't much to show by way of in-progress. The kit  is going together without too much fuss and the fit is better than I expected for something from a little-known Czech company.   The fenders required a bit of sanding and superglue as filler to hide some gaps and the suspension was a bit dodgy in places but it's nothing a reasonably experienced builder couldn't handle.

I managed to find an Eduard PE set for the kit so should be able to dress it up a bit. I plan to finish it as a machine from the 2nd Panzer Division in (what else?) Panzer gray.

"Not good with the figures " ............ they look good already to me .Yes

Look very good to me.

Calling her done and need to get a few pics before I have a Carl moment. Ooohhh, sorry bud, that wasn't called for. Wink However, I almost did. I put my mule that I use for painting back up on my paint drawers and of course I wasn't paying attention and it fell off and almost took out the H-39. Duuuuuhhhhh moment.

WILDMAN - Nice to see this one get started.  Looks good so far.

ERIC - You had me worried for awhile.  Very happy to hear things worked out Yes  Look forward to seeing your little beauty.

Could of had the body painted but got a little side tracked.  While letting the fenders dry started playing around with a new idea.

If putting on a base decided to give it a little company.

Not very good with figures but have to start somewhere.  So far have the base coats for the flesh and after drying overnight will try to give them a wash to help blend the colors.

Sanding of the fenders went well and now they are shaped in with the body.

Glad to have you aboard Tim. Nice little kit.

Well things are calming down here. Phew.......I got a couple of light coats of dust washes on. Now, If I can stomach it, iI need to add a few more washes to the lower part and a few pigs of touch up and calling it done.

I've been lurking here long enough, so I decided to start the Tamiya Panzer II. I have been really impressed with the colorful camo of those French tanks, but have not seen any white flags on them yet???

I picked up the Tamiya French Campaign Panzer II and will be doing the A/B model. I picked this model, because it has a smoke dispenser on the muffler and I think that looks cool. This is basicly Tamiya's Polish Campaign Panzer II, but with the added on armor the German put on to give this tank a little longer combat life. I am planning on doing the brown over gray camo that wbill posted on about page 3.

I am not sure if I will do the figure. It's kind of small and the Verlinden heads I have are way too big for it.

Care needs to be taken on the suspension becasue the rear (far right) leaf spring assembly is different the other four. It has a shallower angle and the upper mount is lower on the hull. I almost messed this up.

In step 6 there is some Haji-speak that confused me for a minute. It says "Remove the design"

I was hesitant to start cutting details off without figuring out why, then I remembered this tank was upgraded with armor. So I did some dry fitting and then it all became clear.

You have to cut off the original driver's visor mounts off so the add-on armor lays flush.

This kit is building up really quick. After spending months on a Dragon M7 Priest, it's nice to have this much done in only 2 nights.

Cheers,

Tim Wilding

Just about tossed this guy across the room. Censored Everytime I add a piece or two, I'd break off a few more. Good gosh! I hodged-podged a link that I cut some parts off of. I was about a half link too much. Now it's got a little gap around the sprocket, but so what.

I may have to think about selling my Panzerjager I and Marder II. I don't know if I can deal with those tiny links again.

too bad bout that mishap Eric .............but hey , at least you still have the model there , albeit in a few pieces now . It sounds better than my complete loss with the melt down .

Sorry to hear about the deconstruction woes Eric but sounds like you can salvage it. Just go slow and take deep breaths and it will work out! Wink

Tigerman: It's1/35th scale by Hi(storic) P(lastic) M(odels) an injection molded kit by a Czech company with a limited catalog of kits.  Not sure it's still in production. I picked it up at a contest years ago and have had it on my build list for quite some time. Thought this would be a good time to get started. Should have  photos to post shortly after doing a couple marathon build sessions over the past couple days. Oh, the joys of retirement!

Thanks all. I glued some it back in place. Taking my time. The tracks and rollers concern me the most. I think the extra link might make things better, but my concern is that the extra link will make a bit of a gap now.

DavidB welcome to the build. Is that 1/35 or 1/72? Never heard of the brand.

Disaster can strike at any moment Tigerman,I'm certain that you will recover, and the vehicle. Now I have a question for those who may have better refs than I. Anyone have a pic or line drawing of the panzer II's turret interior lay-out ? The commanders hatch will be open on my build so I am certain that some items will be visible. Gurtsacks, comm switches what have you. Thanks all in advance. Well I am off to work,.

Rob: The fenders are looking good!

Thread: Have a nice vacation!

Eric: ACK! Sorry to hear that, I hate it when you're almost done and krap like that happens. I'm not sure what to do about the tools but can you cover the damage to the lower hull and running gear with a thick layer of mud? Yeah it's a cop-out but I love thick mud on tanks, you can cover all kinds of problems. Black Eye

TREAD - I guess the only way around that is to reverse the thought, just tell yourself....I am over paid and under worked Wink  Good that you can take some time off, have a relaxing fun time in MA Beer

BILL & BILL - Thanks and very happy to hear you like Big Smile

CARL - I'm pretty cheap also.  I've only had two sets of Friuls.  I usually buy kits with indi tracks to solve the problem.

The fender is one piece.  The line you see is permanent marker and was used for my bending guide line.

ERIC - OH NOOooo.....At least you have some extra links to fix her.  I was really liken what you had done so I hope you get her patched up with no further problems.

Well disaster struck me. I was putting on my pin wash and then was adding a pigment wash to the lower half, when kaboom. First the tracks broke at the weakest connection. These tracks are very tiny and I had trouble getting them to glue to one another. So....in my attempt to reattach them, they were slightly short. I of course squeezed them tight and in turn broke off both return rollers, the idler,  a fender, tools, etc. Pieces were flying off. I was Censored

I might try to glue an extra link in there to see if I can get a little extra space.

After my pigment wash, I'm not even happy with it. So all this for nothing. Angry

Rob , i agree , the look of the tracks is very important . I can see why guys buy the Fruils . But i dont , because i'm cheap .  Its a challenge getting those ribber band tracks to look good , you did it Yes Those fenders look like they have a dark material where the seam is ...............how did you join the two parts of the fenders together ?

I've been looking for an excuse to build the HiPM Sd.Kfz 231 6 Rad and this GB build offers it. So, count me in.

BILL212 - Looks like the track sag stayed in.  It's not a lot of sag but at least it is not straight and hugging the bottom of the fender any more so I'm happy with it.

CARL - Happy to hear you approve of the tracks.  They were the biggest concern with this build.  I'm not much for buying AM products, like to try to make them myself, except for tracks when dealing with rubber band style.  The one thing that always comes to mind for me when thinking of an armored vehicle is tracks.  So I always like to think I have the best looking tracks as possible.  Thats what makes an armored vehicle for me.  I think they do look pretty good.

Updates seem to have been slow on this one.  Much of that was due to dry time with the suspension / running gear.  With this done now hope things will speed back up.  Fenders attached.  Will allow a little dry time for them (used a lot of CA) then sand the seam.

Here you can now see the angle in the skirts

One oversight, had originally planed on having the skirts on before the headlights.  Will now have to be careful when sanding the seam.

Hope y'all like  Paint will be coming soonStick out tongue

T-REX - How is your Somua coming along?  Had been waiting to see another built up.  Looks like you have a good start on her.  Think they are cool subjects and look forward to seeing more of yoursYes

OK guys, connected the tracks together last night and let sit all night to dry.  Today installed them onto the Carrier.  Used a bit of glue on the sprocket in hopes of getting a little sag.  Not sure if it will hold but will let sit for the rest of the day and see what happens.  Wanted to try to get a little sag on the rear portion and not to worried with the front.  The front will be covered with the skirts.
