Best solution Eric is go adopt a kitten. I lost my dog Dusty earlier in the year (she was 14 years old) and thought that would be the end of dog ownership, didn't want to go through raising a puppy, etc. That lasted all of about 2 days and I couldn't stand the emptiness around the house. The fact that I worked from home didn't help as Dusty was part of my daily routine in many ways and the void was too much, it had to be filled. Wink

So,    I open the kit and begin checking out the sprue's...          the PE, decals and clear sprue are all attached to the usual Dragon cardboard protector....

http://i951.photobucket.com/albums/ad354/babill1/Blitzkreig%201940%20GB/pzIIIGB920017.jpg

The only problem is the placement of PE part MB...   It was packaged / taped over the seam of one of the zip lock protector bags,,,

Arrghhhhhh.....

http://i951.photobucket.com/albums/ad354/babill1/Blitzkreig%201940%20GB/pzIIIGB920016.jpg

A huge bend right through the PE ...  I carefully removed and tried to roll flat. Luckily it did not ruin any of the larger pieces on this "sprue"...   still not happy though.

Anyway, I hope to get started soon....     While I do have a set of Friuls for this baby, I cannot help wanting to tackle this sea of tracks....

http://i951.photobucket.com/albums/ad354/babill1/Blitzkreig%201940%20GB/pzIIIGB920022.jpg

Not much else to post,,,, so I am looking forward to all the help and insight this GB will undoubtedly offer....

Talk to you soon Gentlemen.....

Hi Bill..  :  )

rough luck on the P.E.   Maybe after you anneal it it will smooth out easier...trying to straighten it out without annealing will only 'work harden' it..... I am sure you'll get it fixed up !

Gonna be a cool build!

Nice Shell !.... hey believe it or not, excluding the hull, your turret is about the same size as the Char turret... just a bit smaller.... those dudes must have been tested for claustrophobia before they entered tank service!

I like your new avatar.. its like your Shellback and Shellback is on your back and it is reminiscent of 'Dude, where's my car' .... the tattoo scene.....awe ya woulda had to see it...

it was corny anyway

tread,,,   thank you much!           I actually think I lucked out as the bend didn't really cut across any super important parts. I pulled the section off the cardboard backing and gave it a little flattening roll and a slight reverse bend,  and it seems the original screw-up is hardly noticeable...  I probably won't know for sure until I get to that part of the assembly      (with fingers-crossed)

Thanks again,,,  I do appreciate your help and advice

Enjoy the ride!

I told my wife no if I start begging for another cat. Actually I have two left: Kylie 16 and Kassie 8. Kylie is practically mine anyway. She always comes up to me and even did when Katie was in my lap. Stupid cat. Katie would swat her, like she was protecting her property. LOL

I don't know what I'll do when Kylie goes, but it does open the door to another, though my wife and I swear that we won't get anymore. I would probably adopt another 2-3 year old.

Bill, very sorry to hear of the passing of your beloved Dusty. I know it must have been hard and realize that no other dog could replace her.  We can always hold onto the memories we shared with them though.

Dang that IS tiny! I wonder how small my H-39 is? Is can't be much bigger, but arguably taller.

Wow Eric that turret really is tiny!

Ok I haven't been able to do much yet but I thought I would post a couple of progress shots to show how the Pz.III E is coming along.

The road wheels were no problems and next to the tracks are the boring job for me so I always get them out of the road first.

The detail on these Dragon Smart kits is just astounding if a little over engineered.  The escape hatch in the hull is made up of four separate pieces not including the interior which I didn't bother fitting.

The suspension in this kit can be made to be articulated by trimming off a locating tab on the arm but I didn't bother with this feature.  Wheels on just to see how it looks.

Darren: Really sharp! Looks like she's coming together without any problems.

Shellback: Gee that is tiny. I'd almost guess it was 1/72-76 if I didn't know better.

Hey Tigerman, I'm going to Armorcon this weekend and I will pick up a kit or two or three or four! LOL. It will be my first anything related to modeling. I am really looking forward to it. I'm sure there will be a kit for this GB as well as some other goodies.

Cool Scott. If you'd like, refer to page 1 for some armor ideas for the GB. I'd hate for you to get back only to have something that won't qualify. Wink

Trend- Your Char is looking GREAT!!!  I have been taking notes... Big Smile

Carl- Looking real good... I built my Pz I last year and I never forget how tiny everything was especially the tracks... Tongue Tied  You are a grandpa?  I thought you were 25 years old sailor drinking a pack of Beer on daily basis... kidding!

Eric- Nice avatar!  Hang in there my friend.

Darren- When I saw your WIP, I assumed your kit was Tamiya because of the color but realized it is really a Dragon.  Usually all of my Dragon kits are in grey color... I plan to build Pz III Ausf E early next year so I will be following your work with interest.

Guys- I thought about you guys... no it is not because I love you guys!  I was at a special event and there was a French tank with its crazy camo.  I know it was used during WWI but few of them saw action during the invasion.  I took few pictures... thought you'd be interested to see.  I really dig those French camo schemes now...

Believe it or not it is still running!  Not sure if it has an original engine... I can post more pictures especially the interior if you guys are interested.

I am making progress. I will try to post some pics later tonight. I have discovered that the kit does not include the markings for the 615th squadron, so I will have to make my own decals.

Anyone have a reccomendation on decal paper?

Jc- I believe its Renault FT-17... there was no sign and I couldn't find somebody to talk with me about this.  I plan to go back there again to learn more about this tank.

Well last nite I sat down at my workbench and began work on my UE Armored Carrier.

In less than two hours I had the basic hull and suspension done. And that was taking my time...

This thing is actyully pretty dang small. Here it is next to a same scale modern jeep, M151 1/4 ton for comparison...

Mind you it still need the cargo shelf and trailer, but you have an idea of how small this thing is now...

F is for FIRE, That burns down the whole town!

U is for URANIUM... BOMBS!

N is for NO SURVIVORS...

I was just about to toss my little H-39 against the wall, because the drive housing didn't fit and i couldn't see how to make it so. so i checked out a WIP on Military Modeller and found out that I installed them incorrectly. Dunce So......I'm back in the game.

I'm a little disappointed in Bronco for leaving sprue taps and joins on the necessary part of a piece, requiring filing and the such, while it would have made more sense to put it on the other end. Angry

I hope they learned a little from this kit, which was their first release of an armored subject.

Ok here is where I am so far. I have put the interior color in the fuselage. Done the seat, control stick and instrument. I modified an instrument panel from an Eduard F4U-1D Corsair I had lying around.

Andy T, Stickpusher ,Eric,Darren ,Cliff,Bill and the guy spending my social security earninings...( at least it's on beer & tacos )    (hope I didn't foget anyone)

WOW !.... everybody is really getting into their builds...I am enjoying the vibe here :  )

I have only doodled around a bit since my last post.  I added casting  numbers on the turret, the machine gun mantlet and engine covers . and added the casting seam to the turret. tomorrow I will cover and seal the casting numbers with Mr Surfacer and give a coat on each cast panel. I got the casting numbers from Archer 3D  casting numbers intended for 1/16 Tiger II  .http://www.archertransfers.com/AR88027.html. check out the bottom of the sheet where it says who researched it for production..Embarrassed

If you look closley at the machine gun mantlet the numbers are upside down.... no worries... it is correct

anyhoo.. a couple of pics...

Tread, your rolling along buddy. Yes I would have thought those numbers were incorrect from looking at them.

AndyT, nice ad-lib on the pit.

Rob, I was wondering if I could get a pic of the rear and front of your H-39. I need to know if i should sand a seam on the rear and putty up the front, which seems the way to go.

I have the lower hull completed. I decided to sans the interior (sorry guys). This has been a little test of patience so far. I did find that the guy on the other site used 107 links. Apparently he had to sand down some of the sprocket teeth, because the tracks wouldn't wrap properly.
