Here - it's this one.

http://www.greatmodels.com/~smartcart/cgi/display.cgi?item_num=KG15014

Considering you could potentially get something like 40 individual aircraft out of the decal sheet (well, 15 different aircraft in all three scales), and some awesome profile work, it's a pretty good deal.

The next one is go!

Tamiya's BT-7.

So far...man I've missed Tamiya. Despite some weird suspension intricacies, everything on this kit just...friggin'...fits.

I'm looking forward to playing with the fancy PE-bending parts they included. Looking less forward to the road wheels, which are IMO a bit overly fussy for the way I tend to install tracks (inner halves, tracks, outer halves...which will be a pain with poly caps and other business).

The hull top is test-fit, but everything else in here is the product of 2.5 hours work...

Doogs- Can't argue with you about Tamiya kits.  For sure my next build has to be a Tamiya... it is like a good break between Dragon builds.

Good looking so far!

Well...I hate to report it, but I've hit a wall. 4.5 tanks in...and I just can't keep going. I miss painting and seeing things through way too much. And I'm already wondering when I'm going to get to all the kits I've build up as it its!

So...the BT-7 is back in the box for now. Instead I'm going to focus on packing up the garage and cleaning up the blog ahead of the big November 1 giveaway.

Also...if any of you are on Facebook, go check out Dragon USA's specials this week. Zvezda La-5FN for $14, Dragon Panzer III Ausf.N w/ schurzen for $25. 1/32 Bf-110 for I think $50 - but it's the one that looks like a whale...

Ok it's been a bit since an update and I made some progress tonight.

In haste I brought the dk grey up all the way on the fuselage. Also the seam on top is more apparent then I had intended it to be. The look didn't sit well with me and I redid the fuselage sides and brought the gelb nose up as well. I'll sponge the greys on when I splinter.

A FW190 sheet will yield some cool unit markings and numbers.

Hoping the move goes off well myself! I'm positively itching to get back into the swing of things. We close Monday, make the move Friday. Every night next week I'll be running completed builds over there to stash in the closet because I don't dare trust them with the movers.

As for the setup, we're going to have a real three car garage this time, and most of the entire 3rd bay is mine! Here's where the bench is going to go:

I've been waffling over the plan forever...but I think I've settled on one table along the wall with the window, and the other perpendicular where the garage wall moves in. I figure that'll actually give me more working room, since it'll eliminate that dead corner I always had where the two tables link up. I'd also love to replace those cheap Costco tables with something taller, but that may have to wait a good while.

Good for you Doogs, moving always sucks. I like being near a window myself. Remember before the place gets filled up if you need to run another outlet or lighting to do it now...

Hi guys,

Some really nice loooking builds going on here - great stuff Yes

I've literally just finished my 'Leningrad Winter Scheme' Panzer III N which is my second build for Andy Deafpanzer's Panzer III & Variants' GB.

As it happens it's my Birthday on November 4th and in their generosity my parents asked me if I would like a 'kit' for a present. Stupid question really Wink

Anyway, I thought it's about time a 1/35 Tiger I adorned my cabinet so I opted for the Dragon kit# 6600 (Leningrad Winter '43) Tiger I Initial Production.

I do like my group builds now that I've taken part in a couple so I'm definately looking forward to this one.

Richard (Kermit) has signed me up so cheers Richard and I'll be commencing work on Friday November 4th as I've booked the Friday off for my Birthday! I never work in the office on my Birthdays!

I look forward to joining you all soon.

Take care,

Ben Toast

Time for a little updateSmile

As i was working on the turret last night i encountered this problem:

Yes, if you glue it just like that, the mantlet will be tilted counter clockwise quite a bit.... So it needed some creative thinking...

First i tried to hollow out the problem area as this bit seems to be not in the place it should be:

Didnt help enough.... so i took my no.11 and cut away the pin that was supposed to fit inthere. Regrettably this forces me to glue the mantlet to the turret so it wont be adjustable in elevation but since it is a static model....no problemo. It worked out great thoughWinkYes:

Henschel Progress.

Finally decided on markings. Still have a good bit of touch up and the canopy etc but I'm close.

Suggestions as I finish it off?

Ok I'm calling the Airfix 1/72 Hs129 B-3 done. This is a what if paint scheme but I think that the markings would be correct. Some kill marks on the fin are red stars on white circles. The gelb underside wing tabs are not evident in the pics either.

Noah- Great work on the 129.  Dig the paint job you have chosen for this! Yes

Modeler #1- You have my attention... I don't see 109 builds often in my GBs since I am into armors pretty much.

Looks like things are going well on the Ostfront - that 129 is nice. Yes

Still narrowing down my build, but that Soviet P-39 keeps calling my name...

This group sure got quiet all of a sudden...

Ok, I'm in.

After days (weeks, months, who's counting?) of opening the box, staring, closing the box, researching, reading how to's, looking in the box again, and just general procrastination...

I finally started my first tank. We'll see how this goes. And Richard, I'm doing the same Tamiya T-34 that I signed up for in round 1 and never did.

Not much to show yet, just minor subassemblies so far.

I have however already raised many questions, most of which I'm sure are just jitters than regular tank modelers get used to. Wheels on first, then paint, or paint, then put wheels on. I've heard pros and cons to both. Also, the kit supplies two types of wheels, and says they are interchangeable but gives no guidance. There is not enough of one kind to make them uniform, so I assume there should be some of each on the tank? I'm not overlly concerned about accuracy, but I do want it to "look right." Should the wheels be glued on? I don't think they are, but I'm not sure and again, the instructions don't say one way or another.

On a historical note, do you think tank Soviet tank crews might have had personal Soviet flags that they carried with them to display patriotism, the way some Americans did (do.) If so, would it have been the typical Soviet national flag? Maybe it's a stretch, but I'm thinking about the famous "Red Flag over the Reich" photo from the end of the war, and wondering if similar scenes may haveoccured elsewhere.

Anyway, thanks for reading my blabber and thanks in advance for any answers you guys give.

After a few months, I made some forward progress on the T-34 last night. Hull, turret, wheels, tracks and little bits all primed up.

Alrighty, major assembly is done!

picnikfile_WrOoF4

Gotta get in the tool box tommorow and hopefully get this thing closed up and ready for paint. I've stacked up the best "how to" articles I can find for painting tanks so I can follow along.

On a side note, saw today that the History Channel's Great Tank Battles series is on Netflix. Will have to check out the Kursk episode.

Sub - the T-34's lookin' good! I've got a few perspectives on your questions above, but not the time to address them right this moment. I'll try to swing back this afternoon if I can!

Grabbed some better photos of the primered /85 last night.

And...then it started raining. So instead of shooting the black later, I started on the tracks, this time trying Vallejo's "Track Primer".

Here it is still wet...

One of my favorite parts of the armor-building process - painting the things black!

Next it's time to start throwing the green. I think I'm going to give White Ensign another shot, since I've got two tins of their Soviet 4BO green lying around...

Heh...just four. Well, three once this one's outta the way.

Been working on a Fw 190A-3, too, but it doesn't fit into any GB so it's kinda on the DL...

Finished up the RLM 76 last night. Probably going to try to start on the RLM 74/75 tonight. It'll be fun to see how wielding an airbrush goes with this ***:

Doogs- I'm still here! Been busy the last few days, but managed to get the tank put together. However, my Spitfire arrived in the mail today, so since that GB ends sooner it's going to take priority for the moment...

Good to see things are going well for you. I was starting to think we were the only ones in here!

I did check out the Kursk episodes of Greatest Tank Battles. Very excellent, highly reccomended. And after watching, I now know that the cylinder fuel tanks are ok for that battle. The directions weren't really clear, but I liked them better. I also saw that the "cylynder tank" versions still had handrails, which the directions do not show, so I will add them as well.

I also found a photo from 1943 showing a Soviet tanker flying a flag from his tank. Maybe it was just a publicity/propoganda stunt, but good enough for me to justify adding one.

WOW DOOGS !!!!! What did ya go and do to that left hand anyways ?? I know my left hand is the best paint stand I own for air brushing. Nice work on the 190 too YesYes I am not much for the German planes but my top pick of them is the 190 with the Stuka a close second.

Ok, so I got a few minutes tonight, which I wasn't expecting. So, I decided to throw on the previously mentioned handrails and then grab a post assembly/pre painting photo:

I've had an absolute blast putting this guy together, hopefully that will hold true for the painting as well.

I also pulled out the figures for the top and messed with them. I think that by turning the commander's right arm upward slightly I can easily modify it to hold up a flagpole, and with the poses of the figures, it should look perfectly natural.

Now I need to figure out how to airbrush when I have no garage, covered porch, or dedicated workspace, and it rains everyday.

I've been dragging the past few days after realizing I lost the T-34's markings in the move. Spurred me to order some Archer transfers, so I've started the tank moving again since they should be here by the end of the week.

Here it is with the wheels and tracks test fitted:

A few things...

1 - I'm not sure how I feel about the WEM 4BO Green. They're supposed to be the most accurate in terms of WWII Soviet colors, but it feels awfully light to me (though the black background makes it seem even lighter).

2 - Don't know how it's possible but it feels like the tracks shrank or something in painting. But I do like the look of the Vallejo Track Primer. Should do even better after weathering.

3 - Stupid suspension (which is fixed) has one roadwheel slightly higher than the others. It's driving me crazy!
