Ken: Found the old trashed P-47 but the tank wasn't with the kit. Will keep looking, if nothing else I'll tear into some boxes of old scrapped kits this weekend.

Thanks Gamera the under side was gray. I have the dark green for the upper, But I'm just not sure about the gray, I'll keep looking.

I think 'slipper' tank is the right term, not 100% sure. I think I have one from an old Hasegawa kit, I'll see if I can find it when I get home.

The underside of a camo P-47 should be regular USAAF neutral grey and the uppers USAAF OD green normally.  I've heard the field applied camo on Gabby's plane was pulled from RAF stocks though so the uppers were probably RAF grey and green. Were his P-47's undersides NM or grey?

Gamera - Thanks  post it here if you have one.

Learn something knew every day, I didn't know what it was called

CAn anyone tell me what color grey should be used for the underside of a camo P 47

I have Testors 1226 Flat Dark aircraft grey, but for some reason it just doesnt look right to me.

Thanks

Ken: Looks cool! Lemme root around, I might have a slipper tank off a scrapped kit.

Joe: Things got a little crazy with personal attacks etc some months ago and the mods really had to crack down. Some people got honked off and left. Things have settled down a lot since then.

Has anyone here seen the external fuel tank in the Revell Kit? I don't care for this round one

I think you can see it in the pic. If anyone has the sort of flattened one (scroll up to see Elsie) their not using, I'll buy it off you.

Thanks

Nice job on Elsie Trey.  I was unaware people were "jumping ship" for another forum.  I didn't think there was anything wrong with this one.  I've gotten alot of great tips here and hopefully I've presented a few.  Assuming by "mods" you mean the format of the forum.  This fomat seems to be user friendly to me, and truthfully I can't remember what the former was even like.

Gamera - Mostly my wording was said jokingly. But, if anyone has  any objections, what I said about giving the badge back was said seriously. I know the GB has technically ended, but like you said, this is all about modeling and having fun. My apologies for any misunderstanding.

It's too bad Doogs has left, but I know, sometimes one just has to step back for a bit

Trey - Elsie looks great

Beautiful work Trey! Great job on the crazy swoosh leading from the cowling back to the anti-glare panel. I hate masking stuff like that.

Geof: He's mostly posting on the Scale Plastic and Rail forum now. I case you missed it a little while back a bunch of people got honked off at the mods and left. I didn't think Doogs was mad about anything but he seems to be burnt out on this forum.

Magnificent job Trey. Very sharp paint job all around. You have every reason to be proud of that effort.

Sorry to hear Doogs moved on. I sure enjoyed his participation and his builds. Yeah, I didn't figure anyone would get their undies in a wad. Heck, we're all here simply for the sake of modeling with each other anyway.

Guys: The mods have nothing to do enforcing the rules of the GB, I talked to Doogs and he's mostly on the other site now so I doubt he's going to drop the hammer on anyone!

Thanks Joe, Yea you might as well finish that Jug. <---Another line you probably won't see anywhere else on this site LOL

At least no one has complained about it yet LOL If they do we'll ignore them LOL

We can't be the only two that didn't finish. So maybe we can get the others back in here too Then if we have enough, the moderators will keep their mouths shut LOL

Ken - No worries, I'll be following along with you. Heck, since this GB seems to be getting a prolonged status maybe I'll turn some attention back to my failed paint job and strip the paint and finish my Jug. I had kind of set that on the back burner.

B-17,Gamera great pair of jugs! Man so been waiting for the oppurtunity to use that line! I'm in the process of getting issues sorted on Elsie, going back and 'fixing' some errors and adding tint to the nmf along with adding the missing invasion stripes on the belly. Been busy juggling g/b projects so its taking a bit longer than expected,

Ken looking forward to seeing another Gabby jug!

cheers Trey

Gamera - "sorry I'm talking to about twenty people on here every day" Not a problem.

yeah that B 17 and hearing Gabby was pretty good

Okay. I'll post pics here and collect the badge and if anyone objects, I'll leave the pics and delete the badge

Thanks,

Ken

Ah yeah you did mention Gabby, sorry I'm talking to about twenty people on here every day I get a little confused! I would have loved to have gotten to hear him talk. And I'd love for a B-17 to buzz me!

I'm going to do Gabreski's Camo Razorback, because it's local history. He was originally from the same town that I grew up in and still live in; Oil City, PA. I also got to go to and hear him describe the attack on Pearl Harbor at the first airshow we had at the Franklin, PA airport. About 10 miles from here.

One thing I'll never forget is: the morning of the airshow, I was having car problems and trying to work them out. Then all of a sudden we heard an extremely loud roaring. I looked up to see a B-17 flying no more than 50 or 60 feet above my head. Then I absolutley HAD to go to the airshow. its funny, If there is reincarnation, I had to have been a pilot in a past life. The strange thing is, I've never been higher up than the roof I was working on where I use to live. LOL I also admit that I have a fear of heights.

When I got back into modeling, I bought the best Aztec Airbrush Testors has. I haven't got into using it for camo jobs, so, I guess nows the time. Yea, I know practice with it first.

Yea message Doogs, He didn't answer mine.

Thanks

Ken

Cool, I haven't built the Monogram D but still I've done about four Jugs in the last 2-3 years - I love 'em!

Doogs just posted over on the aircraft forum yesterday but I haven't seen him around here in sometime. I'm not sure what's going on with him, he posts less than he used to, he may be one of the guys that mostly left this forum- I haven't talked to him about it. I don't think anyone will object to you posting here, on the other hand the Natural Metal IV GB is still going on and if you do a NM P-47 she'd fit right in. There's the Berny GB II also coming up- Berny was an USAF ground crewman so she'd fit in there too.

Maybe I should send Doogs a message and see what he's up to?

Gamera - Thats cool. From what I've seen so far, I think I'm going to like my D razorback kit. I hope to do a bubble top after I get a few of these out of the way.

Gamera, Has Doogs been around? I'd still like to do this build. I see I'm still signed up to do it.

Ken: This kit is the Promodeler P-47N not the D. It's a newer kit, all recessed panel lines and good detailing- just odd in some places.
