I've got a few options...

  1.  The Trumpeter up-armored BMP-3 I'm working on now...
  2.  The Tamiya M2A2 Bradley ODS that I'm waiting to finish...
  3.  The Academy HMMWV that' still on the shelf...

Decisions...decisions.

Hey Carlos!  You got any ideas for a GB badge yet?

Richard S.

On the bench:  AFV Club M730A1 Chaparral

On deck:  Tamiya Marder 1A2

In the hole:  Who knows what's next!

I'm in with probably either a HMMWV that I had assigned to me (that is a wide choice there) or one of the tanks I commanded (another wide choice).

There's also a "beute panzer" Iraqi T-59 that my maintenance team recovered and delivered to the Kuwaiti 6th Brigade Camp after the war in 1992. My guys got that thing started up (with the back deck off) and we rode it around the Kuwait desert for a little bit until all the oil spewed out; the oil coolers were attached to the underside of the back deck so as we rode, black oil blew all over the engine compartment. We eventually put the deck back on and towed it to their base.

Now to find a T-59...I know Trumpeter did one before they made good kits [shudder]...

I've set up my Dad as this member. We are going to build a kit for the GB, the M40 GMC 155mm gun.

He served 1950- 1958 in the Michigan National Guard.

I'll let Dad post in from here as the history is his, but I thought it would be a good thing for us to do to introduce him to this circle of my friends and let him share his experiences.

Here's the two of us at Moffett Field several years ago when he hosted me on the B-24 with him.

You'll like him I know.

The unOFFICIAL 2011/20012 Veteran's Group Build
Posted by stikpusher on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 2:12 PM

For those who are interested in making a model of an item of equipment that they served on or with, this GBs for you. Or to comemorate an immediate family member who served but is not here or able to participate on the forums. Veterans of all nationalities are the focus here, but since this is an open site, and has members who have not served, but have a Veteran family member, that they wish to build for , those site members are welcome.

Rules:

The subject must be somthing military or military related- land, sea,or air. Civil subjects pressed into military service are acceptable- example: airliners chartered to deliver troops (or bring them home) to Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, or other deployment land are acceptable- the car you owned while stationed somewhere is not.

The subject should be something you served on or with- it should have personal meaning to YOU!. For Navy types, I know the ship kits out there are limited, so if the class of ship you served on is not available, a ship in the Task Force is perfectly fine- spending six months escorting USS Alfred E Newman across the Seven Seas is a significant event in a life, even if it is dull duty at the time. For those building in tribute of a family member, I know getting specific markings and info for their subject is difficult at best. Please at least try to represent their unit.

The kit may already be partially started- sidelined builds no more than 1/3 completed are acceptable

Crossovers from other GBs are allowed.

This Group Build will commence the day after Thanksgiving, November 25th 2011, 0001 hrs your local time,  and conclude at midnight Memorial Day, May 28 2012 Pacific Standard Time.

Have fun, share, and swap stories- factual and otherwise, like we would over a cool frosty malt beverage at the local Legion Hall or VFW.

F is for FIRE, That burns down the whole town!

U is for URANIUM... BOMBS!

N is for NO SURVIVORS...
