So I was just at the hobby shop and I found German Grey but not Dark Yellow in Enamel. Can I paint an Acrylic over an Enamel? Do I need to put something inbetween the two before I do?

The acrylic should not effect the enamel. Just make sure the enamel has cured before you put down the acryl.

 jbrady:
Absolutly hate the clear IP in AM kits... mainly because I have no idea how to deal with them. Until I figure it out this is what I'm stuck with.

Did your kit come with the IP decals that go on behind the panel? The AM kits I built had them, and what I'd do is put a drop of white glue into the front of each bezel, paint and weather the front of the panel as I would any other, then use a toothpick to pry out the white glue masks and apply the decal to the back of the panel. If there are no IP decals, then I would just paint the back of the IP black, then paint over that with the correct color for that aircraft.

It had a decal on the sheet... it in no way conformed to the IP. None of the gauges on the decal lined up with anything on the IP. It's not as bad as it looks in the pic. Pic was back lighted so the green looks thinner than it is. Just hard to understand why, with the overall quality of AM kits, they couldn't mold in instrument details like Monogram or Revell did in the seventies. With those kits all you had to do was drybrush to get a very satisfactory IP. I really like your idea of white glue... never thought to try that... Next time I do one of these.

I paint Tamiya acrylics directly over MM enamels all the time. Never had any issues to speak of. Just be sure that the enamel undercoat is fully cured (I give it about a day).

Nice jbrady! Looks like what Im making for the pearl harbor GB but it says the entire inside is aluminum.

The pre-war interiors were painted aluminum lacquer. Not sure when the change over occured but I'm betting that a lot of SBDs had their interiors painted at sea.

It has come to my attention that I cannot remember where I placed a piece to the gun. It wont effect building it and can be added later if found. Im going to contact Tamiya to see if I can get a replacement.

Got some work done on the Dauntless. Interior is ready for a wash and some dry brushing.

Posting these from the Spit group build. "Top Hat" in October of 1942... it really does tie in.

Nice subject Ninetalis Stick out tongue the only sparviero i have in the stash is the scary airfix 1/72 kit Dead

Thanks, it is a nice plane, I really love that plane!
I just think that it's so 'ugly', that that's just what makes it so beautifull.

I've been looking in my stash and was quite disapointed...
I thought that I a lot of 1942 kit, but they are more 1941 and 1943...
And those that are 1942 are some that I wanted to save till i was better...

But then I've chose this one, the Trumpeter Savoia-Marchetti SM-79

One of my favorite's, maybe my most favorite Italian plane.
So I'm in, but I probable won't be building it before June...

PS: My name is NinetaLIS

Can someone help me out? The instructions said the gun was thought to be painted German Grey when shipped to africa but then repainted Dark Yellow so there were some signs of the grey showing though. Whats the model master color for German Grey?

Schwarzgrau

On the Bench: 1/32 Trumpeter P-47 | 1/32 Hasegawa Bf 109G | 1/144 Eduard MiG-21MF x2

On Deck:  1/350 HMS Dreadnought

Hi there,

I'd like to do the Avro Anson Mk.1 in 1/48 by Classic Airframes. I want to do the scheme in the RAAF circa early 1940s. I am pretty sure it was in service during 1942.

Cheers

On the bench: A-4F 1/32 Hasegawa

Just deployed: F6F-5N Hellcat Nightfighter 1/48 Eduard

Up next: A6-E Intruder 1/48 Revell

Welcome Sign guys!

Did a list update. I think I got everybody right, might want to double check yourself, though.

Unfortunetly I won't be able to really start mine for a month while I make a slow trip back stateside... Captain

Also Nathan, don't look too closely! I'll do the best I can with colors, but I'm more of a "make it look right" modeler than an accuracy nazi.

All right, I've made up my mind:  I'm modeling the British Sherman II at El Alamein.  I'm going to build the Dragon kit since I got a great deal on it.  Now, the only question is whether or not I can leave well enough alone or if I need to add a Bantam 40 BRC like this picture:

Something tells me that I won't be able to leave well enough alone!

Bob

On the bench:  Tasca M4A1 Sherman (Direct Vision Type)

Sub,I signed up in the feeler post but didn't see this one.  Count me in with an ICM Bf 109F-2.  This will work nicely with the 109 GB.  It will be Heinz Bar's JG77 109, Russia, 1942.

Sub that looks like a good kit. I'll definately pay attention to the colors you use for paint as I have yet to grasp soviet colors. I'm officially doing my hasegawa1/72 Ju 88A-14, north africa scheme. Hasegawa gives no date to this machine, but my research shows L1+OK stayed in lybia in 1942 with 2/LG1 until the evacuation to Sicily, but other groups in LG1 and LG2 went back to germany the 1st of the year. it will be my 1st 1/72 kit in quite a few years, so we'll see how it goes

Hers pictures so far. Biggest paint with this one is some mold lines and the softer plastic that goes with italeri models, all the gun parts are made my italeri.

Last picture is next to the M4A1 Sherman that Im doing for the Marines GB. I was shocked at the size of it, I cant wait to have it on my shelf with the rest of the german stuff.

till have quite a bit to do, and not everything in the pictures are glued together. All progress was done today while watching the packer game up till about an hour ago.

Sweet lookin' kit, sub! I have the Eduard version in the same scale and was wondering if they were the same mold. Judging from your sprue shots, looks like a completely different kit, the 5 piece wing being the clincher. Eduard's is only a 3-piece wing. Can't wait to see some WIP pics of your kit! Yes

I anticipate a busy day in the man-cave today (after the wife and I take down all the holiday decor, that is). Been at my Eduard 1/48 SPAD 13 (obviously not for this GB Wink ), and I anticipate some cockpit WIP pics for my Oscar in the next day or two, as I jumped into it as soon as you gave the "GO" sign.

It has begun....

Looks like a lot of detail for an Academy kit. And 1/72 also! The Academy Avenger I also got for Christmas doesn't have anywhere close to this much sprue. I also like the huge number of marking options, including captured schemes. I need to do some research as some of the options have "unknown unit and date." Maybe a little mix and match as long as it looks right...

Anyway, I think this one will be a lot of fun! And yes, ruddratt, The Sturmovik is definately one of my favorites as well. Attack plane + Russian = Awesome!!
