Okey Dokey Frightful, you're on the roster! Welcome Sign What brand and scale? And theater/battle if you know...

It's funny, I actually asked a tank guy at the LHS about the Sherman in 1942, and he mentioned El Alamein, which sparked my memory until I went "oh yeah, I guess I do remember somebody saying the tide of the battle turned when the Shermans showed up to replace the older tanks." Don't know how accurate that statement is, but I remember it now. Shows how short term I can be sometimes!

Okay thanks i will try to get to work soon, doing the Imperial Japanese GB currently, but found a good camo scheme for the sherman 1942.

Off the top of my head I definitely do know the Sherman was present in North Africa employed by both British and American forces during late 1942 - El Alamein, Operation Torch landings and opening stages for the battle of Tunisia.  There are different variants so that is something to look for.

Frightful- I'm going to have to go with Troublemaker on this one and say no to the completed build. Sorry, but he is right in what he said.

As for the Sherman, I don't really know much about them, but I thought they were a later war tank, replacing things like the Lee and Grant tanks in 1943-ish. But like I said, I really don't know that much about tanks. So the way I see it, if you or someone else can reasonably prove that Shermans were around in 42 and you make an effort to make yours look like it would have then, I call it good!

Thanks

Like I said earlier, just Google it. I did a quick look and I believe the M4 production model came out in `42...not certain, was skimming over a ton of info.

I have a few questions.  Can the model be built within the last month or so, meaning already built.  I have a B-17 but that might be 1943 and any other than that i will have to search around.

I would have to say no. The whole idea of a group build is to pick a theme and everyone starts together, posting WIP pics along the way. Also, research is part of the fun, at least I think so, obviously you have a computer, try doing Google searches on some of the questions you`re asking here. Don`t take that the wrong way now...the forums are all about asking questions and there are some very knowledgeable people on them...just saying that some things can be answered quicker by Google.(or whatever search engine you like to use).

I checked the front page...that`s where you`ll find the rules of the GB...and didn`t see anything, one way or the other, about entering a finished model. Some group builds will allow crossovers but most say your build will have to be at a 50% or less state of completeness. So, your B-17 would be a no-go...but, this is Sub Revolutions GB and he has to make the final determination.

Casper the Chihuahua

As I said before, work on this plane is quite fiddly and time consuming. There are no guiding slots or pins of any kind to help cure halves together. The wings have been especially fiddly. Having to do them with CA glue and hold everything by hand until it starts to harden....grrr.....

Heh heh...welcome to the world of short-run kits! II have an MPM Pe2 on hold for months now. They`re very tricky kits without alignment guides. The construction was ok with mine, I screwed up the decals and just haven`t gotten around to ordering more. You`ve done excellent work on your kit...love the inside and I`m sure the outside will look just as good!

I started my Buffalo tonight by breaking the roll bars in 3 pieces...Bang Head. Painted all the parts and am waiting for them to dry awhile before starting assembly. Will post some pics soon.

Looking good, though! I really like the detail work you've done on the inside, and it's very nice to see an out of the ordinary subject on here!

Having finished my project for the No More Excuses GB, I have gotten back to my Sturmovik. Several subassemblies being built/painted, should have something photo-worty soon-ish.

Thanks

Hi Len, the maps and paperwork are actually made by Verlinden. They are 1/35th scale, as this is a 1/48 bird I cut a small corner off one of the maps and for the radio operator, selected a document or two that looked about the right size and cut those as well. These maps have been used in 1/72, 1/48 and 1/32 now.

Casper the Chihuahua

Got some work done on the Anson this weekend. Cockpit had a lot of work in it and I decided to add some extra details to help with the lovely resin castings.

Also got the fuse sewn up complete with the resin sidewalls and roll cage. Seems to fit well and test fits of the canopy also fit.

http://i1093.photobucket.com/albums/i438/smcintyre11/Avro%20Anson/d5633ce5.jpg

Added some maps and paperwork for the navigator and also fashioned a radio headset from some unused F-16 parts.

WOW! Really nice work. Nice job on the scratched headset! The maps and check list are a nice touch...how did you make them or where did you get them?...been looking for stuff like that but haven`t had much luck.

Given the common theme, anyone planning on attending the Planes of Fame air show?

Like many of these limited run sort of kits it has no guiding pins or anything to help with aligning fuselage and wing parts. Some careful placement and blind luck has hopefully fitted this resin sidewall correctly. It is slightly out of alignment and will need pulling back to fit into the fuse with the opposite wall fitted. Nice details though...

So here is the Classic Airframes Anson Mk.I I picked up at my LHS for about a quarter of the price. On sale.

Lots of nice goodies in this. Much resin, PE and film for the IP.

As you can see there are over 60 pieces of resin in this kit, amazing for a 1/48! Yes

Very nice PE sprue as well. Seatbelts and IP are amongst some of the best I've seen.

All I've done apart from wash the styrene and resin is to paint the back of the film IP dials in white.

Cheers

Hi all,

this is my entry for this GB. The Avro Anson Mk.1 done in a RAAF aluminium.

Nice kit, a bucketload of resin and some PE. Quite a nice detailed interior as well. A lot of windows as well to see in clearly.

Cheers

Sigh. Need to change my build AGAIN.

Trying to juggle my builds around the HK B-25, which now looks like it'll be arriving toward the end of the month or early May. I'm hoping to have some simpler builds going on around it, but simple precludes the Bishop or a PE-loaded ship!

So instead, put me down for Monogram's 1/48 Ju 87D Stuka. I picked up this kit for a whopping $2 at ModelFiesta. Primed a few bits while I was priming the PV-1 last night, and did a very rough test fit. Honestly not bad at all, there is ZERO wing root gap.

Planning to do this rather sightly desert scheme:

Unfortunately the kit has a warped propeller (the spinner and blades are all of a piece). Fortunately, that shouldn't be a problem for how I plan to display the finished product:

Started work on the Sturmovik tonight. Nothing picture worthy yet, but it's started.

Oh and by the way, the kit is the single seat version, I'm just a moron!

Also ordered aftermarket decals (first time ever!) thanks to the ever helpful folks on this forum. On that note, I have probably a very dumb question. Does anyone know if the Soviets "whitewashed" their planes like they did their tanks, or were they actually painted white? I would imagine the latter, but have no idea how to find out.

Keep the builds comin'!

Thanks.

Welcome Sign Done and done! I too, look forward to your Buffalo. Interesting airplane. Do you know what theater/battle you're going to have it represent?

As for the Sturmovik, I got a research book for it this weekend, and discovered that in 1942 all the Sturmoviks may have only been single seaters. Shame since I like the double seater better. I will have to make sure the kit I have can do either one.

Doogs- So scratch the NC and add USS Laffey? Did I get that right?

Yep. Placed an order with the LHS on Tuesday, and they're running down the GMM PE set for her. Once I've got that, I'll be able to dive in.
