Thanks for the info USMCSM. I retired in 92 at El Toro and went over to Riyadh till 02 so I was out of touch with many of the Squadron changes. Think I prefer Q-2 with the Playboy bunny instead of a Jester. Will see if Q-2 has a web site tomorrow and see what their emblem looks like?

Hey Heath, Thanks for input on the after market stuff.
Dang, I really wanted to work on the models and play with the air brush over this upcoming three day weekend. But like you said, “busy with family”, well sort of. Don’t laugh but I’m a Girl Scout Co-Leader and my daughter and I are going to San Diego with the troop for a weekend campout. Ah, they just like having me around for the heavy lifting. Anyway, MONDAY NO MATTER WHAT, I’m going to pull out that air brush. Lol

Hey usmcsm,
Wow you are even closer to me than Heath. So how do you like Yuma? Have you been there long, I mean have you had the taste of our great summers?
Oh, I was reading you were having trouble posting pics. I don’t know if this will help or not. It took me awhile to figure it out but the code basically goes like this:
[ img]http://whatever/something.jpg[/img ] NO SPACES I added them so I could show the example. Wink [;)]
Also, thanks for the input on the Photo-etch and do they have a hobby store in Yuma?

Scott,
Q-2 lost the Bunny sometime around July '92. That's when they made the 3 dets, x,y and z into three different squadrons. They don't have the panther anymore either. Now they are the "Death Jesters" and have, you guessed it, a jester on the tail. What will they be next year? Who knows?

Gary...When did Q-2 took the Bunny off their tails? I got the AeroMaster decal sheet for the Monogram kit and was shock to see that the Squadron is now called the Panthers and theres a big Puss....cat, on the rudder. Bet the PC crowd had something to do with it. I still have an old Superscale sheet with low vis decals for the Playboys, I might go with that one.

Jeeves,
Roger that Brew Pub. Nothing like a good Mile and a Quarter Porter after a hot August day getting whipped by the ponnies.
Gary,
Ditto. Fastest 3 hours of the day.

R. Lee played a good Drill Instructor in "The Boys of Company C" also. If you haven't seen it check it out. Lou Gossett did a good job too in "An Officer and a Gentlemen".

wibhi2,
I live here in Harrier land. If you would like I can e-mail you some pictures.

Garydmason,
building multiple models -not that it matters. going back and re-reading, I mistook something and the error is mine.

I've seen the movie "Siege at Firebase Gloria". One of his best performances as a DI (besides R\L - :0) ) was in "Full Metal Jacket", IMHO.

can't blame ya for not stepping out in that weather. I'm sure he didn't want to be there either

wibhi2,
Yep, that is one great show. R. Lee Ermey was in Indy a couple of Saturdays ago as a guest at a car show here. I was gonna go and get his autograph, but it was only 5 degrees Farenheit that day, and I wasn't about to get out in that cold weather just for an autograph. I hope I didn't blow my possibly only chance of meeting him.

Another movie you gotta see him in is "Seige of Fire Base Gloria". The movie is only so - so, but R. Lee's character is outstanding!! He reminds me of a few Marines I knew when I was in the Corps.

By the way, wibhi2, what plan got shot in the foot? Kinda confused about that one......

Well that shoots my plan in the foot - just ordered every available AV-8B kit I could find.
Wanted to try an AV-8B, AV-8B night attack and AV-8B +. So that makes 2 RM's and 1 hasegawa

Bag it -gonna do it any way

Trying to finish up the blackbox cockpit set . Had to rebuild certain sections of the seat after they broke when I was cutting it off the stub. The cockpit has more paintable detail than can be reached with a paint brush - most of which will be hidden in the end. It is beautiful however and I hope my efforts do it justice.

Love mailcall - almost never miss it. Can't beat the lil' gunny when he comes out.

stoomfluit,
I've never thought about it, but I don't see why there should be a limit to the number of models you can build. As long as you post a picture (or pictures) of the completed models on 30 July 2004 (not before), then build as many as you want. Hell, I might even build more than one. That's a good idea you had.

Sergeant Major,
My son told me the MOS number, but danged if I can remember what it is. I'll ask him the next time I talk to him. He's in Pensacola, FL, going through Air Traffic Control Screwl (a Rush-ism) right now. So, whatever the MOS number for that is................
I'm a big Rush Limbaugh fan, by the way..........

Scott53,
Man, you GOTTA do VMAQ-2 with the Playboy Bunny on the tail!!Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D] hehhehheh!!

Jeeves,
I've used Testors SIlver paint, and Chrome Silver paint, with no problems masking it at all. Just make sure you use a low-tack tape, like painter's tape, or even Post-It Notes. Good Luck!!

I always start two and as one goes smoother of faster than the other the slowest drops out. Hence I have several models in various stages of completion hanging around all over the area, not to mention some I started that are back in the box due to one move or another throughout the years. Drives the wife nuts! I love it! So while I honestly intend to do the A-4, ya never know whats gonna come out...
Jeeves,
I lived on Wineberry Ln. Miss the My Way and the Olde Bryan Inn. Gooooooooood chow!

LOL small world!

I'm originally from Plattsburgh-- but when I moved down here in '97 I lived in Malta near the My Way Cafe....moved to my house here near Saratoga Lake a few years later......

My sister-in-law lived in Luther Forest for a while as well....on Larkspur Drive.

Finally got the Hasegawa 1/72 EA-6B painted and a coat of Future on it, will start applying the Cutting Edge decals for VMAQ-3 to it today. But I'm getting the urge to start on the 1/48th EA-6B or, maybe the SBD-1. Still need to wrap up on the 2 F-18's. GOD there's not enough hrs in the day for model building!

Jeeves,
Hey, I just moved out here to Yuma from Malta! I used to live in Luther Forrest down by Parade Ground Village.
Gary,
I love mail Call. Making a living as a Drill Instrucror after retirement would be some rackett. What's your son's MOS?
Should be starting the A-4 this weekend if all goes well. Gotta knock out a philosophy paper first. Also waiting for some parts in the mail.
Looking for detail sets I went to Skyway models site. They listed a 1/48 set by Victory Productions for the "A-4 Skyraider"!?!?! Isn't that like Catdog? Anybody know if this is an A-4 set and if so what it contains?

OK-- I know Verlinden makes an engine detail set and a Dauntless set that includes loads of stuff for any of the variants-- has anyone used the Dauntless set with all the stuff?? If so- what's included??

Not that there is anything wrong with the AM SBD-1 interior detail-- but out of curiousity- is there any Dauntless detail sets for the Dash 1??

Also-- what would people suggest for the exterior aluminum??? There is a lot of masking involved here-- can any of the regular or Metalizer Modelmaster paints hold up to this??

James,
When I first got into the after markett game I started out with cockpit stuff. I agree with Heath. Photo-etch is not really that expensive. Maybe start with a resin seat and/or making the belts, harness using photo etched buckels etc... thats how I got into it. It's also easy because if you bone it up you can still use the kit seat at crunch time, but I'm warning you, once you start going down that detail path you are hooked!

Hey James, keeping busy with the family?! LOL I did order some aftermarket parts. I ordered the Eduard Photo-etch kit, an engine kit (though I don't think I'll use it on this kit), and a resin seat and tires.....the only problem is that they are taking forever to get here!!! LOL Oh, and I ordered 2 reference books as well. Hopefully, I'll receive all of those parts soon!!! I did lay down some Zinc Chromate, but other than that not much has moved on the kit. As far as the aftermarket stuff for your kit is concerned, it's up to you. Personally, I jump in over my head sometimes, and head straight for the bells and whistles. I think that it would be a good opportunity to learn how to use those aftermarket parts if you get them. So, I would say it's up to your budget, and if you want to try some new stuff out. I would at least pick up a cheap Photo-etch set, if nothing else to see how it is, and see if I liked it or not. Did you try out that airbrush??!!! huh.....come on man, shoot it already!!! LOL Tongue [:P]Wink [;)] I've been pushing paint through mine almost daily (I'm doing two car builds for the Tamiya Con in April). Good Luck, and let us all know!!

Hey Heath,
Are you going to build your F4U out of the box or are you going to get any of those detail kits? I'm wondering if they are worth the added expense or to just go out of the box this first time around.
Anyway, just wondering and if anyone else has any input on the detail kits that would be great. Thanks Thumbs Up [tup]

Thanks Drew,
These were just a couple test pics so no big deal. I might have to take you up on it later when things get serious though. Until then I'll try a few more times!

Ray,

Some internet service providers aren't too happy with image-hosting. That's probably what's tripping you up. If you only have a couple of photos, I could put them up for you.

Regards,

-Drew
