Well thats a build for another time. It was just something to think about. Remember I am working on a limited budget and not much time left before I start working somewhere. So a job for another day. But you can bet that is on the top of my list.

Jim,

That's a GREAT idea!! Go for it, dude!!! I would to see those decals when you get them finished. Use them for a Harrier Flight Demo Team!!Yeah!! [yeah]Big Smile [:D]

As far as why the USMC doesn't have our own flight demonstration team, it's because the Navy still thinks we belong to them. Disapprove [V] But, the Navy keeps at least one billet open for a Marine pilot each year to fly with the Blue Angels.

And the Skyblazers were a Europe-only flight demo team for the USAF. I think it was because the Thunderbirds weren't allowed to go to Europe (I might be mistaken about that), so one of the deployed squadrons over in England (I think) decided to make their own team. It lasted for about a decade or so. They were pretty darned good, from what I remember reading about them.

Good luck on your Hornets!!

I can't wait to see it. VMFA-333 is my favorite USMC squadron. Hey Gary, I have another question for you. Why does the USMC not have or never had? their own flight demo team. I know that the Blues have some individuals who represent the Corps and at least one pilot I think is from the Corps at all times. But with all the negative feelings toward this country I think that maybe they could figure out how to change that. So here is my idea, I came across an article on ARC of a F-86 Sabre painted in Skyblazers colors a few months back. I never knew that such a team ever existed. Apparently they ran the same routine are the TBirds but did it over across the pond. I figured that maybe we could reinstate that team and create the USMC (Bulldogs?)(Painted in nice USMC Blue and OD colors. With red and white trim.) And maybe just maybe the ill will toward this country would start to disappear. Am I niave to think that would work? What do you think. The Bulldog thing is going to be my first attempt at creating my own decals set for my first What if build. Chime in fellas.

Hey Gary, I don't have cable at the moment so I Havent seen the Gunny in awhile, how do you spell his favorite saying? And what is with him blowing up all those watermelons? I don't get it? And I do miss that show. Once I get job though that is the first thing to go back on. Thanks.

jim,

The Gunny blowing up the watermelons is just him having fun......blowing something up!! And watermelons explode REAL GOOD!!Yeah!! [yeah] Sometimes he blows up gallon cans of paint against an artists canvas, and then signs his handiwork.

I'm not sure what you mean by his favorite saying, unless you mean "OOH RAH". That's something that all Marines learn to say when something motivates them. I have the habit of saying, "OOH RAH, Devil Dog!!" when I talk to my oldest son on the phone (he's in the USMC, going through Air Traffic Control School in Pensacola, FL).

Good luck on the job hunt. You might want to try a website called www.Monster.com. They have job listings for just about everything all over the country.

Maybe. I've got a 1/48 scale Monogram P-38 that I want to build. I bought it a day or so before my wedding in April of 2002.

It's got decals for Dick Bong's Marge markings. For my last semester before graduating with a bachelors in communications, I took a graduate level course on the depiction of women and children in the media from from 1930-1960. It was a pretty cool course, and I got to write my final paper on the link between pin-up art and nose art. I think I called the paper something like, "Fast Planes and Hot Women." Cool [8D]

Anyway, I featured Bong's plane in my paper, so when I saw the Monogram plane, I had to get it.

But, I'm going to build a Fokker D.VII next. If I finish that in time, maybe I'll do the P-38 in time for your group build.

Regards,

-Drew

Jim,

Type [ quote] and [ /quote] without the space in the brackets. Copy and paste what you want to quote and make it look like this:

Can I get in on this too? I'm really into 1/72nd scale naval and marine aviation, especially if it's got folding wings or folding rotors. And if the kit doesn't come with the wingfold, I'll scratchbuild it. Right now, I have an Vietnam era CH-46 Seaknight on the workbench with its rotors folded. I'd put a photo up of it on this posting, but frankly I don't know how.

With regards,

Drew as with everything else it will come with time. I am still confused on how to quote. I have yet to figure it outl. Is there a link for instructions?

Drew how do you get it into Boxes? That is the part I am confused with. I can cut and paste but it dosen't look the same. Thanks.

Drew are you interested in the NMF group build? How about you Gary? Due date is Halloween. So there is plenty of time.

Me too, but if they really look ugly, then I don't need to show them to anyone. Still, I like the idea of having a little "life" around the plane.

Hey Gary - See your other thread on the harrier for the stuff I found on the harrier.

BTW: the other plausible answer is 1889 C - :0)

wibhi,

FINALLY!! Someone got the joke!!!Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] I posted another humorous answer (to me, anyway) on another thread a few weeks ago (math-related), and it took two weeks before someone figured it out. I thought it was obvious. Had to do with the difference between a Mirage IIIC and a Mirage 2000. My answer was 1997C.

So, anyway, tell us more about these resin conversions. Who makes them? What web-site or catalogue can we find them in? What kits do you need for the conversion? I'm very interested in this. Talk atcha later.

Stoopid resin conversions. Went to deal with the 100% LERX yesterday. Directions say "oh, just cut the wings along this (sic) panel line and glue to your hearts content."
Okaaaay....tape off requested panel line, scribe, whip out handy dandy razor saw and cut. Test fit pieces - strange, the LE's don't align . Install on A/C -Censored [censored], I need a .40 Censored [censored] spacer between the 2 for them to sit properly. Well Duuh...The cut should have been about 4mm forward of the panel line. Thank heavens for card stock. Otherwise the ARAAM conversion set (AV-8B II) goes together like a charm.

Cardinal Rule folks: MEASURE twice and cut once.

So who's got $75.00 to spot me for a resin TAV-8B conversion? - Just kidding.
I almost fell out of my chair when I saw that. With all the wieght in the front, I'm sure that I would have to put a bunch of weight in the tail as a counter balance.

Nah. Once I get the Phantom done, I still want to make a base for it and paint the two figures that come with it. I think the figures will really show the impressive size of the plane. One of the figures needs some surgery -- he's sitting, and I want to make him standing.

All of that make take me to the group build deadline. Big Smile [:D]

Thanks for the URL. I'll definitely peruse the site tonight sometime. Are you gonna build anything else for the Group Build once you get the Phantom completed?

Gary,

I've got the decals on, and the Phantom looks really good. I got the decals from Fox One Decals (http://www.foxonedecals.com/).

The specific sheet I used is: 72-006 USMC F-4J Phantoms in SE Asia pt 2. The decals are absolutely increadible and totally to scale. The decal sheet has marking for VMFA-333, -334, and 232. It's also available in 1/48 scale. And VMFA-333 is represented on a different sheet in 1/32.

I'll try to post some more "in progress" pictures soon.

Lufbery,

My wife complains of me being fast also.

But, good luck with your Phantom. Ever since you said that you were building a VMFA-333 bird, I've been looking for some decals for that squadron. I wouldn't mind having one of those myself. Looking forward to seeing yours.

Hi all,

You guys sure are fast! I am so freaking close to finishing the airplane, but I've been that way for a couple of weeks. Sad [:(]

Oh well. I'm hoping to work on it for an hour or so tonight.

Started with the Wildcat yesterday, first serious attempt with PE ever. That stuff is just amazing! Not very easy to work with, but the result is just so much better then OOB. I'm planning to do this much more. Thank you all for convincing me to use this!

Try wrapping a piece of sand paper around the shaft of a paint brush, file or wood dowel. Make the paper long enough to be able to hold it while doing the seam.
