Honestly.  Id be more apt to make my own than buy it for that price.  I haven't done resin for years, but that doesn't mean I forgot how. lol

Seriously.  That thing costs half a months income for me.  There's simply no justification the seller can give that would make that sound like a good price.

I'm sorry, but paying that much for what boils down to about $5 worth of resin is just idiotic..  And people say this hobby isn't getting too expensive....

Ahhhh....but who would pay upwards of $400 in the future????

5 hours to go.

It's at $330,

i'ld need to stoke at about $450,

or is it going higher?

Man, the way they have the bidders identity protected you can't tell for sure if it it just two or more that are bidding against each other to drive it up so high.  But I would say the way it is going, it may well reach $450.  Either somebody has deep pockets or a credit card to burn!

Two-hundred and fifty-seven dollars and fifty cents!?!

Wow, and I thought Manny's $229.00 kit was overpriced!

Good luck on finding another kit, hopefully cheaper!

Well, I didn't win the lottery so no chance of getting this one!  If it goes for more than the $257.50 I will be surprised.  Of course I can't believe it got that high!  Shows that someone should be seriously thinking about making another conversion kit that knows how to do that sort of thing!

Ken

I just found an old listing for this kit on "Great Models Webstore" (a now defunct website).  This kit ceased being sold retail back in 2001 and sold for $149.  So I guess the $257.50 price tag is not too unreasonable since it has been out of production for 11 years and had a high dollar orignal price tag.  It is a big conversion kit since it is 1/48 scale.

Ken

Unbelievable!  The current price on eBay for that kit is now $306.66!!!   Surprise  Way out my current price range!

if I may make a tiny suggestion, Smile,

I'm not sure how far you want to go with the realism, but the tires, the rolling surfaces could use some flat or dust to separate them from the sidewalls a bit when you go the weather the beast.

Dom,

You may make any suggestion you think fit, my friend, and I certainly appreciate that one. I'm not that experienced in weathering so I'm studying up on it, but want to be sure it's consistant for the whole diorama. I plan to wait until I have all of the vehicles and support equipment built and the diorama base finished, and then do the weathering in one fell swoop. That way I can compare them against each other and against the plane. Does that make sense, or do you recommend another approach?

Wow, $257.50 for a conversion kit!  Of course like I said, it is the first time I have seen it listed in two years, so that shows how rare it is.  The auction ends tonight at 3:00 AM so it will be interesting to see where it finally ends up at!

Hehe, no - where can I get some? Big Smile. I had an Okinawan sunburn, but it was mostly from the beach. Most of the shops were fortunate in that we didn't have to be out in the sun for long periods. Mostly it was the munitions guys, ground power and crew chiefs that had the deep tans.

I'm not sure I remember either, bud. Okinawa is an island, albeit a volcanic one. However, Kadena is right on the ocean and most of the land therebouts is sandy, so I'll go with a sandy color for the general weathering scheme.

Bockscar

Well, over the years I've accumulated 3 US Pliot/Ground Crew sets, 2 US Aerospace Ground Equipment sets and 5 US Aircraft Weapon Loading sets, all Hasegawa kits, so I have plenty of troops and ground equipment Smile

Hi Russ,

I ordered a copy of this photo off of eBay and the same guy is offering another copy of it.  It is a B-52F from the 320 BW and has Vietnam bomb mission markings.  It was taken at Kadena in November 1967.  It is an 8 x 12 glossy photo:

Wow, cool photo, Ken! That would be the squadron we relieved in April 68 then. The 320th was out of Mather AFB in California. I don't know anything about the F model but it looks like there were some enhancements to the engines at least. Probably an upgrade to the ECM systems as well.

Thanks for sharing this, Ken,

Russ

Yes, thanks Ken very cool photo.

Sorry the $215 was outa' reach. I always find a way to rationalize that kind of purchase. See, i would tell myself,

"yeah, it is way too expensive, but if I spend 20 hours trying scratch those details, i will lose a lot of money because I will pay for it twice in time. See, if I get it, then I get my time to enjoy the kit rather than struggle to re-engineer it. I'll just put off buying other kits for the next 5 months or so.......rarity counts in this business."

Besides, you have to count your time searching for stuff. If you don't get this one, how much time at $40 an hour can you afford to keep trawling for one even cheaper. Every minute you spend looking needs to be deducted from future price in order for it to be at Par.

Losing the convenience of immediate accessibility to acquire something rare is also an important "opportunity cost."

Hi Dom,

Very good points and I can't argue with any of them!  But I honestly can't afford it right now.  I wish I could!  Sad

Here is a shot of a KB-50J:

Ken

I'll bet those J-47's helped out with the jets' stall speeds, and helped get extra fuel off the ground at take off. Still like that photo.

Ken thanks as well for the BUFF shot. i have bought a few too, B-58, I think a missile newspaper file photo, I'll try to dig them out and share. Stuff like that needs to be spread around for history.

Hi Everyone,

Well I am no longer in the running on something I was hoping to win on eBay.  It went out of my price range (currently sitting at $215.00).

Ken

Eeek! I can't even afford a down payment on a dream of spending that much on a conversion kit, let alone a model kit!  Surprise. Sorry you missed out, bud. Sheesh, that 1/48 scale B-29 must be huge!

Russ

Hi Russ,

Yes, the completed model would have a wing span over 35 inches and the fuselage is over 26 inches long!

by the way, don't think the last two X planes achieved those speeds:
