To get the most of the depth of field, you will likely need to over ride the camera settings and go for manual aperture. You want at least f11 or the largest possible number your camera allows, (my DSLR can go to f28). The larger the number the smaller the lens opening is, but this allows greater depth of field.
Small lens opening though decreases the amount of light, so you need longer exposure time - this in turn requires use of a tripod and a timer button. Also do not fill in the view finder with the subject. Best to use large format and crop afterwards with desktop software, this allows more of the subject to be in the focus "field".
