Well hell. I got started on the engiine a little more last night and cannot believe I overlooked all the flash on each engine row....and theres alot of it! The steel color I applied shows it all very obviously. It stands out like a green thumb. So...............I started over since I know have three sets of these things by cutting another set from the sprues and removing flash last night. I've got one pretty well done and will work on the other one tonight.

The puns Joe.....the puns.

Joe - Marvelous work on the mottling and defense band. See, you can do it.

And just so Joe there doesn't get overly agitated here is a pic of the biggest accomplishment I've made amidst family visiting for the past 2 weeks, working extra hours and prioritizing yard care. Yup, I glued the lens on my gun sight using Testors clear glue. I should be moving along here a bit more though which will be nice indeed.

Now to let the paint cure out for a couple of days in anticipation for the gloss coat. Looks like I'll be turning my attention the the engine in the interum.

Mustang, that looks sweet. Great painting. The freehand work is really paying off. Doug, sweet cockpit. From time to time True Details puts out a resin gem and you've turned this one into a masterpiece.

Beer man- Nice work on the Old Arii kit. You gonna try and Future those canopies or get some replacement ones?

Ok folks. Now for a small update from my end of the world. Really been getting down and dirty with my build as I have been out of action for a while now. I've been putting anywhere from 2 to 2 -1/2 hrs per day on it just to get a little caught up with the rest of you guys here. Got the Reich bands painted on and while I'm no Picasso.....I dont feel I did that bad. Here goes.......................

Rigidrider: Like the drybrushing effect. Nice detail on that thing. Can't wait to see another good build coming together.

Joe Rix:Pics man....pics.  Would love to see some updated progress out of you. lol.  I know youv'e been busy with comany and all and totally get the model distractions. God knows I've had plenty over the last month and a half!!!

Thanks Doug, I am no stranger to dry brushing and I too use that technique on every model somewhere, somehow.

Need beer... Yeah, I think that I'd be looking to another kit or perhaps someone here might have a spare they'ld part with... I believe that that problem is caused by recycled Cycolac plastic that wasnt heated properly and injected under enough pressure. You also have to add a certain amount of new material to the recycled, I used to work at Model Products Corp as a much younger guy, I worked in molding and later in the plating dept. But any way, I still like the Arii kits for the price! Keep up the good work.

Joe R(2?) ha... Thanks bud, I'm getting to where I prefer to dry brush now more then any other way of weathering, and with metalizing paints, If you have never drybrushed, Get a cheaper stiffer bristle brush, dip lightly in your weathering color and dab brush on tissue (bristles tip first) until nearly all the paint is gone then just start daubing your areas gently until you achieve the desired effect.

Joe (1) Sounds great. looking forward to pictures,

More to come!

Looks like its going together very solid Need!! I see what you were talking about on those clear parts, definitely going to need some love there aren't they? Oh and who hasnt had to do some persuading on a kit or two??? I can think of a certain Hurricane that required a lot of persuasion.

The intelligence of Apple - should be pre shading, not persuading, although it might be required later!

Thats not a bad little set there Doug and for the price you can't beat it. Well yesterday all I did was apply the black for the exhaust panel on the starboard side. Today I masked the fuselage off for the application of the Defense of the Riech bands. Man what a chore that was. I didn't know what I was getting into! Got it done though and applied the white part of it this morning. Will mask and apply the black half of it tommorrow morning.

Thanks guys,,, This is the first time I havn't had to do major surgury to get one to fit. Its a TrueDetail set for the Hasagawa 190A series... As far as fit issues there were a few, but minor. The only thing I had hoped for was sone PE, but there wasn't any for this set.

Thanks again... Oh, It wasnt all that expensive either, somewhere aroung $15.00.Some day I want to toss expense to the wind and do a super detail set from possibly Aires or CMK.

Well gotta go... Work day today! LOL

NeedBeer, Yes, There is a red warning label on the armor shield. It says "Caution! Canopy is jettisoned by an explosive charge." Hope that helps.

Hey Rigid your comments about Arii kits make good sense!

I'm not sure about the accuracy but its not a bad little kit, nice hard plastic and detail looks ok. I've almost finished the assembly, fits together like a dream, ready for pre shading now. A little bit of flash on one two parts easily cleaned up , some sink marks inside the cockpit never to be seen. The cockpit detail scrubbed up quite nicely after dry brushing but except for IP panel will also never be seen, the seat has moulded belts which will do for me.

The instruction sheet is predominantly Japanese with limited English, no idea what colour references are - used my Hasa instruction sheets to get an idea. One question to the members here - instructions show a decal location on the armour shield(?) behind the seat - the only one I can see on the decal sheet is a red one with three lines of nonsensical print, it seems disproportionately large. Can't see one on any of my other kits, is there supposed to be one ?

The decals are a bit off colour so may have to source some more or paint my own?

The major disappointment is the canopy and windshield, very thick and marked, not very clear.Have started work with micro mesh, hopefully will clear up? Might attempt to make my own otherwise, or any AM suggestions welcome?

It was not my intention to do any AM parts here but will see how it goes? It was in the stash and my thinking is it will never be built if I start the better kits first, hence the dual build and will be able to draw my own conclusions this way - took some pics earlier, will post these tomorrow

Holy Cow!! While checking my email the past couple of days I was taken by the fact that there was no activity from the GB. Well, upon going  to clear my junk mail I find that my Hotmail filter had been classifying everything from FSM forums as junk! Hopefully got that rectified. Definitely a "What in the Wide, Wide World of Sports" was that all about!

Hey Doug. I've gotten used to the photo bucket thing. Just hover your mouse pointer in the upper right hand corner of your picture when you are viewing the pic in the albums section. You'll see a little gear icon appear. Click that and a drop down list will appear. Click the "links" selection and then a drop down list will appear. The second one down is direct. Click in that box and it will display "copied". After that it all works the same in FSM. Just in case you were still trying to figure it all out in photobucket. I know though.....it took me a couple of times.

Need Beer... Great looking kits! Naturally the Hasagawa will be more detailed to begin with, But I'll tell ya, I've built my share of Arii kits and with a little PE ,Resin and a lot of detail time to work Arii kits are nice! I sometimes had rtather take a Arii and put the savings into PE and Resin (BigED has some great all in one detail kits)  and work the dickens out of the Arii, I still have a few in stash. Looking forward to your WIP!

Joe(1) I would expect nothing less from you!(lol) What ever you choose it will turn out great.

Thanks all for checking out my humble start... Got some more done, Just hav'nt got pictures down loaded yet. Man, speaking of that... What the EF happened to Photo Bucket??? What a flaming pile of dog squeeze! They took a fairly reasonable and easy to use site and really buggered it up! I am considering using another site but I'm afraid it will wipe out all the previous posting... Gotta let it ride for now I guess.

Sorry about the rant but I mean ...Just... DAMN
