Here's my first attempt at a badge to supplement the outstanding one that we already have. I had the thought of doing a motorsport related badge, as I think it's the only genre not covered by the other one. I've chose the iconic Porsche 917K for it.

Let me know if you like it, or suggest some changes.

Your chassis are looking great!.The 46 Chev will be used to Haul my 46 Aerosedan Salt Flats car to Bonneville, so they're getting a little aging effect.

Good idea Dogfish, that will look great.

Here's tonight's progress update on the 1/32 Mustang.

I've sprayed the new undercarriage, but as you can see the solvents in the paint have upset the filling job I did on a couple of locating holes. It's gonna have to be fixed and re-sprayed.

and the interior is done. I am resisting the urge to add detail.

Cheers

Dogfish really like the chasis weathering, very realistic. Builds coming along nicely!

Tony great save on the warped chasis, those small little blems will be a cinch after what you just did! I think the interior has a nice clean look to it as is. The primer I use on car bodies is a self etching Pintura base made by Rustoleum in a rattle can ,its cheap ,sands well and has good adhesion, but its a bit 'heavy' for 1/48 aircraft so I only use it on bigger smooth surfaces such as cars and big rigs.

Glenn the exhaust pipes are just stretched sprue

Eric thats coming along nicely!

I've gotten the interior basically done ,the dash detailing and some fiddly bits aside

The builds are coming along nicely. I have to wait untill Wednesday to get more clear coat for the Camaro. This is the first time I'm trying to build up a shine. My LHS told me some people will put on up to 12 coats of clear on it. I'll go 4 coats max on it.

I'm still sanding putty on the semi trailer. After I cut the trailer and put it together to make it 53', I put sheet styrene on the outside to make it more modern. But the styrene wasn't big enough to cover it all with one sheet. I'm getting there though.

Tax, that badge looks great. That will give every one a choice. Since I'm not a race fan, I'll stick with mine Big Smile

Tax, you don't need the word "THE" at the beginning on the badge. just a little advice from a guy with Bachelors degree in English. Hope you don't mind

Trey: looks good.

Tony: That's not the paint attacking the putty, it's normal shrinkage.

Treyzx10r,

What did you use to mask the seats and interior? You have some nice clean lines, I have a 55 Chevy I am going to do later and would like to two tone the seats.

Tony, I used acrylic flat white on the tires. It took quite a few tries, just need to quit drinking so much coffee hehehehhe.

I did get the fender repaired to a point where it's not as noticeable. Oh well. :) I got the body primed today.

Tony,

Here's one of the advantages of using the touch-n-flow. By welding the scoop to the hood, there's no seam and very minimal sanding needed.

I bought this kit on ebay for 5 bucks. Parts were still in the bag but the red you see is where someone sprayed it with enamel spray paint. I soaked it for 2 weeks in oven cleaner and still didn't get it all off. I sanded it a smooth as I could (reason for mishap hehehe).

That looks good Wheeler,  I can't spot the problem. What color are you going to use for the final coat ?

Greg - I filled the holes with plastic rod and a touch of CA for some minor marks, so its not putty shrinkage this time. I used automotive primer, which I think might be the issue. next prime will be with Tamiya fine primer.

Hi Greentracker,

Thanks for the tip on the badge. Since you are so well qualified, I'd better make the correction, and also make sure I don't start the sentence with a conjunction :) I thought I'd use your badge when building a road car and the racecar badge when building a racecar. I'll just wait for a little more feedback.

Trey - that interior is looking really sharp, I like the color contrast.

New improved version of the racecar badge incorporating feedback from Greentracker :

All feedback welcome.

Today I finished masking the stripes on the body. I've given it a preliminary coat of closs clear t oseal the mask. Fingers crossed.

I also modified the mounting for the front suspension and axles to fix a couple of problems with the sit of the model. As designed, the wheel sat too far forward in the wheel bay, and the car sat very nose high. I guess I really should have done it before spraying the undercarriage anyway, so it's just as well I have to re-spray it anyway.

More photos later tonight.

Greentracker - I hope you don't mind the personal question, are you currently employed in an occupation using the degree ? Just interested to know. I've never thought about what occupations the people on this forum have.

Cheers

Monogram 1/32 1965 Mustang GT-350

Here's the update from last night. I've modified the front suspension and axle assembly to fix the ride height. The photo shows it clamped, but its now all done and painted matt black.

And the body with masking done. The photo was taken before any paint was applied, but it's since had a coat of gloss to seal the mask.

Tax -I don't mind the question. I went to college late in life. I was 43 years old when I started and wasn't the oldest one there. LOL So when I graduated, I went on SS Disibility. I then started writing an historical novel on the oil industry here. Thats another bit of history we have (Oil City, PA) I didn't want to teach. I always said (jokingly of course) that I'd have the little brats strung up by the end of the day LOL

Maybe I should've kept my mouth shut on my education. You guys will start noticing my mistakes. LOL My hands are really hurting me this morning, making it hard to type. Thats just one problem. Carpal Tunnel.

Greentracker, I've worked with people with Carpal Tunnel, it does seem very painful. I hope it settles a bit for you. Thanks for the concise history. I've haven't noticed any grammaticals in your updates, nor would I mention them as my typing is terrible and I make plenty myself.

I sprayed the blue stripes on the Mustang today using Tamiya enamel X-3 Royal Blue through my airbrush. It looks ok now, I hope it looks good when the mask comes off. I tried to match the blue to the kit decals, as I have to use the side stripes with the GT-350 lettering. that could be another ugly exercise !

If the stripes come out well, I'll decal it and clear coat it this weekend, then park it for a few days whilst it all hardens up prior to polishing and then BMF. I'm not going overboard on this one, it just has to look OK on the shelf.

Hopefully, that means that I will start to progress one of the other projects that I listed.

Cheers

Greg thanks

Wheeler I use tamiya tape ,that prime job looks great and the scoop to hood join is perfect!

Tony awesome job masking the stripes ,looking forward to seeing that blue when its unmasked!

I've got the mill basically finished minus some plumbing and wiring details. The exhaust pipes did'nt go quite as planned but its passable.

Trey, that's a good lookin engine. Is that red piece on top of the intake manifold on the right side of the carbs a coil pack?

Tax, nice job on the stripes on your Mustang

Hi all,

Thanks Trey. Also the engine and chassis looks awesome. One thing I really have never done is scratch build parts. I am going to start small and try making alternator brackets for this build hehehe.

Tony, the Mustang is coming along nicely.

I laid down the first coat of paint today. It looks pretty good so far except I noticed a small run in the corner of the hood after looking at the photo. It was about 40 degrees F so I should have known better hehehehe. I also finished white lettering the tires and painted the rims and interior.

I've just stripped off the masking. There are no 'runs' as such, however there are a few spots where the mask must have lifted slightly and there is some soft overspray past the hard demarcation line. I think I'll wait a day or so then mask off the stripe and attempt to polish out the overspray with plastic polish and a cotton bud (Qtip). Although not perfect  I'm pretty sure I can make a decent job of it.

Photos later.

I didn't see the earlier posts. That engine and chassis are looking excellent Trey. In my experience, the fit of exhausts is a likely trouble spot. The engine really does look excellent.

That paint job looks pretty smart Wheeler, do you think it will be possible to sand and polish out the run ? I can't see it in the photo.

I just worked on the Jaguar XJR-9LM last night, was feeling lazy so I just removed some parts from the sprue. Thought I'd leave the Mustang for 24 hours to harden up before polishing out the blue overspray. I did paint some detail on the undercarriage yesterday, I'll try to photograph it tonight.

Cheers

Glenn thanks and yes thats a coil ,crazy place for it though

Wheeler thanks, that color really looks sharp, hope you can buff out that run. Pretty tricky prospect with a metallic color, good luck!

Tony thanks ,really itching to see those stripes unmasked!

I sorted out the exhaust fit problem with a little trimming on the side wheel wells. I then got started shooting the semigloss, will finish that tomorrow the shop lights were attracting way too many bugs!

Frustrated by the aerial insect assault I moved inside and tackled the dash

I put some canopy glue over the instruments to simulate the glass covers ,so while that dries on to the chasis. Here it is before I hit it with some Game color transparent black acrylic wash

and after

Trey, in a  word, WOW. That is outstanding work. It is so realistic it jumps out of the screen at me.

I hope to show a pic of the 'Stang body tonight if I get some bench time,

Trey,

I agree with Tony, WOW! What's the secret to the wash you use and do you airbrush it? That looks amazing. I also like the detail in the dash, sharp.

I ended up sanding the edge back down to the primer to get rid of the run. I'm going to let it set a couple of days to dry, then wet sand it and shoot a second coat. I just need to quit getting in a hurry and painting when it's cold. Darn paint doesn't seem to like it much hehehehe.

Hi,

This sounds like fun. I have three that I would like to add.

AMT 1966 Nova Pro-street (recently started still cleaning flash hehehe)

AMT 1962 Bel Air

REVELL 1960's era Beetle (Nope, not using the flowery stickers that came with it and ya can't make me hehehehe)

I'll start posting some pics of the Nova tomorrow.

Thanks. :)

I built a kit that had those decals!

Does it also have flared fender openings? I sanded mine off and it looked like a Bug again.Angel

Thanks Mr Squid, I've added you to the build roster. It'll be fun to see those coming along.

I've polished the overspray off my Mustang, but for some reason couldn't get a respectable photo tonight. I'll try again in the morning.

cheers

MrSquid,

Yep, it has the fender flares. I took it out and looked at it and I agree, they will be sanded off. I am going to build it as a stock bug, A friend of mine had an Orange one so that's the color I'm going to paint it. One thing I noticed looking at it today is there are a lot of mold lines on the body. More practice for me  hehehehe.

I won the battle of the bugs today and got the satin black down

Then the dreaded wiring and fuel line job was next, pretty pleased with the results

The interior is ready to instal

That is going to be a one very smooth machine Trey.

I've also applied the decals. THey were, well, like 35+ year old decals. Thick, inflexible, wanted to curl, would stick down, eventually I glued parts of them down with Future.OK here are the pics. I'm still not happy with the photos, but this gives some idea.

Cheers
