Thanks Russ;

Just before i lean on you, i will try a liquid epoxy, but my success in the past for

small surface area joints is not good. CA was a revolution in high tensile strength

joints especially for small surface-area spots.

originally, industry used CA as a 'spot weld' until the epoxy cured. It is still King

for small spots.....lol

Would any of you BUFF lovers have the DML 1/200 B-52D that you would be willing to part with?

Sorry, Jim, my stash is almost non-existent. I didn't even know there was a 1/200 scale B-52D.

I have a cunning plan to post all of the BUFF's I build here.  I think the plan might include as many as 10 models, maybe more.  Now, I just need to get off my duff and get to work.

Funny you should mention that Jim;

Cyano Acrylate was the only glue that ever stuck

as hard sticky as dry, in MHO.

1993, or so ago, I busted up a big plaster sculpture

when it fell on the floor,

and I repaired it with about 16 ounces, or about a pound,

of industrial CA.

I never recovered, and I was using a ventilated area.

best glue I ever used,

but I forgot to sue for unexpected long-term-disability.

i've been coughing ever since

I need to move on,

The gel-epoxy I bought is 5 minute working time.

Next up is 2 hour working time.

so, I either have 5 minutes,

or, 120 minutes......hmmmmm.....5 into 120 is.......

60! yes 60!!!!!

All you can get in epoxy working times is 1:59 ratio.

That sucks.

What about a 15 minute working time epoxy?

How hard can that be?

Yeah, angels will peel that crap off my cold dead fingers.....LOL

Dom, most R/C stores have 5 minute and 30 minute epoxy, and I am pretty sure I have seen 15 minute too.  I use it all the time.

Well Jeaton, thanks for the info, they used to have 60 minute, or 1 hour epoxy up here, but

no longer. All I can get is the 5 minute or the 2 hour stuff.

But it gets worse:

Hey Russ, if you are tuning in,,,,

I mixed a small amount of 5 minute epoxy and glued 6 bombs to

their tails.....between minute 3 and minute four, I tried to adjust

the alignment....

got home from work today at 7:15 p.m. and voila!

I might as well have dipped the darn things into liquid honey.

Nothing cured. Not the bombs, not the test blobs, not the batch I mixed so carefully to

glue the dang things!Angry

What a far-gone mess!Angry

It'l cost me more in time and trouble to take the dagnabit thing back to the store for a

far-gone refund!Angry

I'm ordering online, so if you know a good supplier, let me know please.Angel

Daganabit!!!

Wow, I can't believe you had that kind of problem, Dom. Are you sure one of the bottles was hardener?

If the epoxy didn't harden, can you clean it off the parts? Pack up what bombs you have and any you can salvage and send them to me.

What is it you are wanting to order online BTW? More bombs?

Russ:

I need more Mk-82s like Ho Chi Min.....

This was a LePages twin injector pack,

supposed to squeeze out equal amounts,

it doesn't.

I carefully culled enough resin and hardener

and blended them together.

Nothing cured. Even if you mis-mix, something cures,

but nothing, absolutely nothing cured, my test spots are as

liquid as Billy-Bee honey.

I'll try one more brand for the epoxy,

and Russ; I really appreciate you having my back on this!!!

No problem, Dom. Don't give it a second thought.

Now as to the bombs - I bought Verlinden US 500lb Bombs sets # 2508. They were about $10 each back in March. I bought them from MegaHobby online:   http://www.megahobby.com/

Cheers,

Here is something for your consideration.

This is a nice looking model.  I am going to contact the seller to see if I know him.  It looks like we were there at the same time.

Jim;

Wouldn't mind having that model in the house, beautiful job.

When I think of the time for a skilled craftsman's work, $110 is a steal.

As for the epoxy, it sticks like doggy p** and smells half as bad......daganabbit!

I did another trial batch, and it isn't actually glue, just a new kind of doggy you-know-what.....Sad

Russ

If I remember the story correctly, they were part of a bombing competition in the UK.  The invasion stripes, the call letters on the side and the patch  pay homage to the 644th BS when they were in Europe flying A-20 Havocs in WW2.

Yeah Jim;

I always liked the lines on the Havoc. I like the other mediums as well, but

the Havoc is my classic favourite.

Guys,

I have been absent lately, my job review is Friday,

and the boss was dropping hints about expectations at our Friday

round-up meeting.

My work bench is a mess and I am beginning to hate the smell of

LePage's epoxy.

I'm not asking for violins here, I just wish I could get to my BUFF

with a little more regularity.

We also had a surge of cases the last three weeks, so they've

been keeping me busy, a good thing, but not conducive to kit

building. Don't laugh, but the IRS is driving me a bit batty as things

seem to change as regulations kick in and the hunger for revenue grows.

If I don't get to many arrows on Friday I will reward myself by re-shaping

the other three engine cowlings per Russ' notes and pictures.

As I was studying BUFFology, it seems that the B-52B actually

came out before the B-52A....I hope George Schairer will forgive me.

OK, here is my cunning if not a bit crazy plan for this Group Build.

I am going to start small.  The first BUFFs I build will be the Pit Road 1/700 G Models.  I'll build the H Models as soon as I can find them.  After that, the Academy 1/320 D Model.  Then the DML/Dragon 1/200 birds.  That should keep me busy and off the streets and out of the bars for a while.

Of course there are the following to build also:

1/144 Revell G and H Models

1/100 Tamiya D Model

1/72 Revell/Monogram D Model

1/72 AMT Early G Model

1/72 AMT Late G and H Model

Looks like I have some work ahead of me.  Should be fun!

Good news Gents;

I passed my review and am still gainfully employed.

I will celebrate by putting together some engine nacelles tomorrow,

and maybe some 750 lb iron......
