OK, here is my cunning if not a bit crazy plan for this Group Build.

I am going to start small.  The first BUFFs I build will be the Pit Road 1/700 G Models.  I'll build the H Models as soon as I can find them.  After that, the Academy 1/320 D Model.  Then the DML/Dragon 1/200 birds.  That should keep me busy and off the streets and out of the bars for a while.

Of course there are the following to build also:

1/144 Revell G and H Models

1/100 Tamiya D Model

1/72 Revell/Monogram D Model

1/72 AMT Early G Model

1/72 AMT Late G and H Model

Looks like I have some work ahead of me.  Should be fun!

Jim

Demented Soul

Augh!!  When do you plan to eat and sleep???  Makes my head ache just thinking about building that many models! Good luck, Jim! Big Smile.

I looked at Sanger.

It's only a 46" wingspan!

Sure, why not!

Many thanks Russ;

Boss actually wanted my input on future capacity/execution needs.

Our overhead is way less than competitors, so-much-so

I think the boss guys are getting infrastructure envy.

MajerKong:

Nice to hear from you again!

I pulled in some late model H-bo's and with any luck will

get some of the big-betty's soon enough.

I like iron bo-sticks, but the depleted uranium tamper

Here it is guys:

http://www.sangereng.fsnet.co.uk/boeing_52.htm

Looking forward to a G model in my stacks.

i spent most of the weekend reading insurance statutes,

fun, wow. I have to write an exam by October.

Sure wouldn't mind having the Sanger B-47 in the stacks too, need to save up a bit!

By the way;

those are Vac kits, so scratching is necessary.

I got the big gas tanks for the ends of the wings sanded smooth.

I pulled out the Mk-117's and I couldn't believe my eyes,

two of them are missing off the sprues, including a lot of bomb-bay hardware.

I've had this kit for almost ten years, making steady progress on the aluminum

infrastructure and bomb bay, and now I find out someone bashed the kit 12 years ago.

I'll find them somewhere, but nice surprise!

I want the Sanger 1/48 Vac kit, I better start collecting alot of 1/48 iron between now and then!

Hey, Dom,

A "lot of bomb bay hardware" - "aluminum infrastructure"?  What kit is that?

Sorry to hear about the 117s missing. Unfortunately, I don't have any extra. Hope you find some.

Cheers,

Russ

It's the old Revell Kit, based on the B/A series:

That's the picture on the box and below is the aluminum spar I built to keep the wings curved up;

Sorry if those are repeats.

I think I can cut two complete Mk-117's out of the kit's bomb bay display section, it has 9 117's

in half-relief to show through the BB doors. Only hitch is that it is the thickest piece of plastic

in the entire kit, more fun scratching away!

Well, here is the first step in my insanity.

Yes, I am thinking about building a 3 ship cell of D-models.  I'll need to scratch build some pylons.  Should be easy!Yes

Ye cats, Jim! You must be retired if you have time to build three kits at once!  I'm retired and I don't have that kind of time.  Gonna be cool, though.

Are they done yet? Big Smile

How many times I almost bought those kits!

Jim, many thanks for offering the 117's, I only need two.

The parts were missing from the tree, I cannot recall building them or giving them away.

I started building the batch, it is actually nice to take parts off the sprue and glue them

together, I haven't done that for a while!

I have the big wing-tip tanks done, and I found the bomb-bay doors, phew!

Here's an update on scratching two Mk-117's:

This is the Mono-Rev Bomb bay deck as supplied to show

the first layer of bombs out the bottom of the BB:

There's the 3mm of plastic between the bomb half and freedom:

That's the underside, thick enough to put in a body armor vest....lol

3mm of medium hardness styrene:

I want the middle row bombs as they have a full tail:

Starting to cut:

See all that plastic that needs to be cut away?:

Man, my hands are hurttin' from all the cuttin', but I have the halves:

Now I need to remove the excess plastic, Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy!Sad

Jim might send me those Hasegawa units yet!

Here is the result of the cut-outs, ready for fine finishing, the parts off the sprue are on

the right:

Sorry for the fuzz, that's the two of them with an original, I haven't cleaned the swarf off yet:

it's not as pointy as the original, thicker fins, and no fuse:

i may shave a few thou' off yet, and clean them up before gluing:

Almost tore a knuckle cartilage cutting through that thick plate.

Jim: I think I'll be okay for those Mk-117's, again many thanks for the offer!

Cutting and sanding aren't so bad,

it is the CA that is the killer.Dead

Eeeek! $40-50 sheet of styrene for a 2 inch project??? Ye cats! You were breathing too much of that CA, Dom! Big Smile. How did the project turn out? The thread ends with you still shaping the form.

Well, not just for a 2 inch project, I've used it for all sorts of things, including making a cigar humidor liner.

The plastic sheets I bought were a 4mm and 2mm, and they were 4 by 8 feet. I was getting tired of dropping $15 for a few small sheets of Evergreen sheet.

That Panther project wasn't a build, I just wanted to have all the parts for a late 50's kit in the box. I got the wing tank the right shape and about a 600 grit finish, so it's a complete kit again.

If you ever need some styrene sheet, just let me know.

Progress, gents;

I managed to get more Mk 117's glued together, including my scratch units,

and got the pylons assembled.

The BB ceiling is being finalized,

and, just like magic,

our valued associate, Russ, managed to get the Mk-82's finished.

I don't say 'valued associate' lightly, only a real bud would do that.Smile

Many thanks Russ,YesBig Smile

I still have to figure the solution to glue them to the clip panels.

Is anyone considering buying one of those big 1/48 BUFFs?

I am planning to get one, so,

let me know, maybe we could arrange a quantity discount.

I picked up the 1/48 B-47, just to see if it is up to quality standard,

I'll keep you all posted on how it turns out.

Jim:

Will do.

I love that aircraft, one of the prettiest, sleekest birds in any category, any era.Stick out tongueWow

i just hope they used at least a 2mm-1/16th" styrene and not some cheap

commercial vac plastic.

Some of the Vac kits have areas so thin, you can't even use putty or open

a bottle of cement on the other side of the room  and the dang things melt through.

The guys at Sanger wrote me a personal email to say thanks for buying the kit,

sounds like they are serious and still small enough to care about customers.

Just in case you didn't know about this site.

www.joebaugher.com/.../usafserials.html

You can find some basic history about any aircraft from the USAF based on year and serial number.  Kind of neat!
