Can't wait to see that Greg, and looking forward to seeing how it builds up. I have plans to do mine next year so will be looking for some pointers.

Here's a few pics with the gun installed, minus the sight.

The model's been basecoated with Tamiya's rattlecan Desert Yellow.  I'll be adding chocolate brown and olive green for camoflauge.  The markings will include Balkenkruez the 2-3 side bins, white outlined black "1143" on the upper sides and rear doors and 12.SS-HJ division emblems on front/rear.

I also still have interior details to add.....

Ohhhhhhhhhhh nice work guys!!!!!

I have the treads on the Churchill. You remember me raving about how easy the complex suspension went together? I knew there had to be catch somewhere! The rubber band tracks in the kit though very nicely detailed are about an inch / 3 cms too short! You can pull them to try to make them fit but I couldn't find any way to hold them till the epoxy I used dried plus I was afraid it would pull something out of whack. So I ended up putting them together with sewing thread leaving a big gap which I rotated up under the track shields so it's invisible. You can't see the problem now but still the rest of the kit is A++ quality, how could they screw up something like this? Unless it's a hint to buy the fiddly bits link tracks???

Well, my advisor doesn't seem to be around so I'll just post these now.  Here's the Sherman with some ropes replaced by foil straps, tie down staps for the tanker's bar, .50 cal, and tracks.  What else do you guys think it needs?  Only the figure and hatches left to do.

LOL  Well, I've glued arms on the figure since the last post . . . then I thought I'd have some coffee but I'll forego that and get back at it now!  Wink

Bish - got the base coat on the figure, painted the base flesh color, then the in-laws came back so I have to stop.  I'll do my best to finish it tomorrow, sir.  Sad

Unless, stik has me do other stuff to it, which he almost always does, and then . . . who knows?

My Spitfire kit along with a couple bottles of MM Acryl paint finally came in last week, I studied the instruction guide and found I need to buy more paint needed of what I don't have. In the meantime, I have started working on my P-47D Thunderbolt Bubbletop kit. So far I painted the parts needed for Zinc Chromate (cockpit, wheel doors, wheel wells, etc...).

Your Sherman looks great, buddy! The only Thing I'd add is a slight bit of streaking, but that's just my personal taste...

Hi all, I'd like to jump into this GB as well. I'm getting serious about getting back into modeling, and if that sounds like a strange statement, bear in mind that I have a five year old. Wink  I've also never done a GB before, so this will be a new experience, but I'm really looking forward to it! This subject is pretty near to my heart, as my grandfather was involved in the Normandy invasion. I was lucky enough to be able to visit one of the beaches (Utah I believe; did I mention my failing memory?) on my honeymoon seven years ago. I'd like to build the Revell M4 Sherman I've had rattling around for a while now, and if time allows I'd like to do another kit from the Axis side, maybe an 88 or 'Pips' Priller's Fw-190. Thanks!

Welcome aboard Raven. Is that a 1/35th scale kit.

GB's are great fun, and can be very addictive. If there anything your not sure of, feel free to ask.

Yes, I forgot to mention it is a 1/35 scale kit. It's actually from the Battle of the Bulge, but I didn't like the look of the improvised armor anyway, so this gives me a good excuse to leave it on the sprue. Angel

Raven - Awesome!  Another Sherman.  This is my first GB too.  Ask anything and everything you need to know.  The guys here have all the answers.

BB, BlackSheep, I didn't realise this was your first GB as well. We will have to make sure its a good one and get you hooked.

I think we need to get some Panzers rolling to counter the Sherman threat.

GB's are a great way of learning tricks for soing better models and these guys have alot  of great ideas. And don't worry about them pesky shermans, when my Fw-190 gets in the air I hope to give them something to think about. Like ducking in a holeWink

Thanks for the welcomes! I'm sure I'll have a bunch of questions, especially when I get to weathering (something I've never attempted before).

Don't tempt me, I have a 1/72 Tiger around here somewhere... well, there are nine months till the deadline. Smile

Now you do know that most FW-190s  ended up as smoking holes themselves in Normandy... "Pips" Priller excepted... but the ground threats were far more lethal than the Luftwaffe to Allied armor...

Raven, Why would you think that is strange? Many of us have returned to modeling after many years of giving up what many call is kid stuff. I was out of it for about 25 years and jumped back into the deep end of the pool and never looked back. Also many members here have children and Grandchildren that are wanting to learn these things.

Anyhow, Here is the latest on my P-38. As you can see I did away with that little peice of plastic that they say it has to have in order to stand up right on its landing gear.

BTW: I recently watched a show that told about how the P 38 (I forget the squadron #) got word of Admiral Yamato's inspection tour of some of their differant airbases. When the company who made the video scanned in the P 38 models into the computer they negected to remove that little peice of plastic from the rear of the port side boom

Looking good Ken!

And that's hilarious about using a model and not removing the plastic prop rod.
