Checkmate: That delicate PE work is just great! I could never do something like that!

Joe: The weathering looks ace!

Thanks, Clemens.  The cranes weren't too bad.  I'm working on the catapults now, and they are challenging!  I have the piece painted, but need to do a little highlighting and washing before I assemble and post photos.

She's looking great, Joe! The weathering is really impressive as well as all the awesome work you put into the interior!

I had no chance of starting work on my Zero so far, but I hope I can finish some of my projects soon and get her started... Could you please take my P-36 out of the build roster? I won't be able to finish her and the Zero within the time limit...

I just finished up a project for the Canadian GB, and will post the pictures of that in the appropriate thread.

So now I'll be able to devote all my time to the NO boat in this GB, and make some progress.  I hope to finish the PE catapults this weekend, and then get busy with the plastic kit parts, beginning with the main guns.

July: Throughout the summer, Adm. Yamamoto trains his forces and finalizes the planning of the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Sept. 24: The "bomb plot" message from Japanese naval intelligence to Japan's consul general in Honolulu requesting a grid of exact locations of ships in Pearl Harbor is deciphered. The information is not shared with the Hawaii's Adm. Kimmel and Gen. Short.

copied from "A Pearl Harbor Timeline"

to be honest we are getting to the point in this build that i like the most.  the history of the build.  between early november and early december of 1941 the US changed, Hawaii even more so.

Sorry, Joe!  I should post some photos, cuz I'm making progress on the NO boat--just slow, mostly due to working late.  I haven't been able to get anything done since Monday.

I finished the seaplane catapults, and will get some pics up.

Currently, I'm painting pieces--which would be kind of boring to look at, I think.  I needed some round styrene rod, and that finally arrived yesterday in the mail.

I just started work on my Zero today. I'll get some IJN cockpit green and that blue/green-ish metallic color at my LHS tomorrow! I managed to do some dryfitting of the main cockpit parts and the fuselage halves and the fit is perfect in every area. No sign of any gaps!

I got the colors today and started assembling the cockpit. The fillet at the fuselage spine might cause a bit of trouble, but the fit of the fuselage parts seems to be perfect otherwise. The cockpit is going to be a bit time consuming. So much detail!!!

Pete,

Those decals are pre-war.  By the time Pearl Harbor was attacked, they had been converted to OD over Gray.  If I had access to the hard drive on my defunct lap top, I show you pictures of bombed out P-26s in OD over gray.  If I'm too late, oh well, look forward to seeing your build.  Got to get to the hobby shop and get my kits/butt in gear.

Buddy- Those who say there are no stupid questions have never worked in customer service.

Great films, Joe.  Thanks.

I finished the catapults--sort of.  Had a problem with the center platform; the railing broke off from too much adjusting, so I left those out.  I might try reconstructing it with a small piece of flat plastic and some railing stock.

Actually, I had a problem with the whole thing, and couldn't get the pieces to stick together well, so I used the plastic kit pieces and glued the photo etch right over the top.  It gives the whole assembly more stability and strength anyway, and saved some of my sanity.
