Hi Theuns....your Sabre is a beauty!!

@Talentless:the kit is 1\48 to get a brilliance apparence you do first a drybrushing with white then each button with appropriate color......triple zero brush...

@Talentles:.....to drybrush I prefer Enamel or Acrilic vinilic like Vallejo,Andrea Color,Italeri........Gunze and Tamiya aren't good for drybrush (..my opinion of course...).Try also the drybrush with the oil for washes,,,,,they also are very good and modulable.ciao Enriico.

new seat arrived for the Academy PF from neomega. the seat is a big improvement (my painting is not)

You can see why I had to get a new one. I guess I was just unlucky with the Pavla seat. I have a couple of Tornado seats and a SU-7 one from Pavla that look fine.

Dang that is one amazing bangseat!

@ 68GT . I live in South Africa. After nearly 20 years of democoicy the majority of poor black population have still not got running warer, electricity and basic municipal services that were promiced to them with EVERY election that the ANC goverment wins. The gov does however spend billions on self enritchment while the masses still live in squatter camps (as seen in the movie district 9)

The masses have become rather ticked off with the situation the past few years, and in SA the way to get your idea out it to riot, stone cars and burn stuff in the roads.

Just to show I'm still alive...

both fuses ready to go together. pits and wheelbays in, shock cones stuffed with lead. i had to remove the locatin pins from the oez fuse as they didn t line up correct, so i have glued some plasticard here and there to help. Did it to the Acadamy kit too just for something to do.

the ends have a quick splosh of paint  on them, looks ropey but  the engines will cover most of it plus any ejector marks, and when its together ill have to repaint it anyway.

DSC02678 by omgpainful, on Flickr

Both buttoned up (just about). The academy one was quite good, the oez one........ well lets say the clamps and tape got a good workout.

DSC02682 by omgpainful, on Flickr

let the sanding, filling, sanding, fillinggg.....etc begin.

Wow, it seems like I missed a lot of stuff!

Talentless: That's some exceptional work on those seats and engines!

Ed: Your 105 looks very nice! I'll add it to the front page as soon as I'm back in Austria!

Starfighter: I love the look of that 'pit!

B52Gunner: Really sharp looking NMF!

Theuns: I don't see anything bad when looking at your Sabre! She's a beauty!!!

I hope I didn't miss anyone. All of you are doing some great work! It's an honor for me to host this GB!

Take Care and keep those updates coming guys!!!

Cheers, Clemens

TAPS88...I think I have an actual, taken photograph of the "Dragon and his Tail" in my stash.

If I can find it, I'll post it up for you here.

Unfortunately guys, new work role is gobbling up all free time...not sure if I'll be able to participate in the build. Still remain hopeful though...

Well, here it is.  The Tamiya 1/32 P-51 Mustang.  In the beginning, the fit of all the parts were spot on.  After the fuselage and was complete, the nose panels were painted and were not attached until the majority of the model was painted.  It was then where I noticed some discrepancies on the fit of the cowling panels.  There were some gaps between the lower cowling and then intermediate panel just below the exhaust manifolds.  In hindsight, I would build this model one of two ways.  Either totally all engine panels off as in a diorama or fully cowled with the cowlings un-detacheable and glued in place in order to properly putty and fill the gaps.  That way one doesn't need to spend all that time detailing the engine and such.  As it was, I was able to "barely" make the model look presentable concerning the engine area.  I ended up gluing the panels in place and post filled and repainted some areas of the cowling.

The wings were mostly filled with Mr. Surfacer 1200 (3-4 coats) and then sanded.  This covered most rivet holes but left some showing which kind of looked like a lot of the actual photos I'd seen of wings.  The wing was then painted with Alclad Duraluminum, the fuselage and leading edges of the tail were painted Alclad White Aluminum. The flaps/ailerons were painted Alclad Dark Aluminum and the wing root was painted with Alclad Polished Aluminum.  The overall model (except the main wing) was shot with Alclad Gray Primer and sanded up to 12k grit with micro mesh pads, then shot with Alclad Gloss black and that was sanded for the right smoothness and then the Aluminum shades.

This was my first NMF build and I can say that it was a challenge.  Preparation is the key. Lots and lots of sanding.  Did I say lots and lots of sanding?

Anyway, thanks for having me in this group and it has been the utmost in fun and much needed therapy!  I look forward to another build!

Also, didn't Future the flat olive upper cowling.  The decals shine on - wondering if using Future now and then shooting with a flat top coat will do the job.  Fingers crossed.

Very cool looking "pony" you got there, well done. I got one in the stash, but decided to hold off on building it untill I got my NMF skills up to par.

Hi Gunner....your P-51 have a fantastic look......why you haven't  spray a gloss clear on the green cowling panel???now is very difficult  to eliminate the silvering.......

Tongue Tied I know...in my haste, I put them on without the Future.  I just brushed Future on the olive drab and it's looking good so far.  So I think I may have avoided a disaster.  Pics to follow when done - hopefully!

Well, the Future over the upper cowling seems to help the decals on the "flat" surface.  I forgot to Future it before the decals and in my haste, applied them anyway.  So, maybe a coat of semi flat after the Future cures should totally resolve it.

Well, I see it's a little late for me to put my two cents in. =]  I saw this a couple of days ago and was going to comment on the silvering as well.  The only other thing I could think to do at that point if anyone else should encounter it would be to carefully hit the decal with a decal setting solution like micro sol.  Only do so carefully and be at the ready with a q-tip to wipe any drips. Then I'd hit it pretty hard with a flat coat over that area.  I've gotten rid of silvering in the past with a method like that and it hasn't let me down yet.

Solid looking mustang you have there B52Gunner.  I'm more and more convinced to do the Duraluminum over the wings on mine as well.  Hopefully I can start painting soon.  I just had a minor set back the other day and had to sand down the gloss black over one of the fuselage panels.  Such a pain in the ass.  I've never had this much trouble on any other build before.  =[

glad you managed to sort the silvering out. i had some decals react with a (probably not cured) clearcoat. they shrank cracked and peeled like burning cellophane Wilted Flower

anyway  i got bored so i stuck the tails and wings on Stick out tongue havent put the tailerons on the acadamy one yet as im still toying with the idea of foiling it.

DSC02703 by omgpainful, on Flickr

not bad with plenty of mek, just a tickle with a sanding stick should sort it.

DSC02690 by omgpainful, on Flickr

even a bucket of mek wont fill that tho Big Smile out with the filler methinks.

DSC02688 by omgpainful, on Flickr

tried a few fillers. See that red stuff, its new to me and i love it. ive seen it used before but didnt know what it was. its 3M Acryl-red glazing putty. it goes on like butter, and when cured you can cut it sand it and polish it with no sign of shrinking, cracking or bits falling off and it blends in real smooth too. im in love. Heart  dont know how it is for scribing through yet. just dont sand it while sitting on the sofa, that red dust doesnt blend in so well with the carpet and will send your wife ballistic

CMK wheel wells are a big step up from the kit. aires and brassin maybe better tho,.but i didnt have them so these will do nicely.

TAPS88-

Here are the two images of the Dragon and his Tail I had in my stash:

and...

The info I have on the image is:

the photgraph of this aircraft, a
B-24J, on Ie Shima between July 1945 and the end of the war.  It had originally been
assigned to Australia, then the Phillipine Islands before arriving in Okinawa.  Was attached
to the 43rd Bomb Group and the 64th Bomb Squadron.

ok, last pics of my Mustang, I promise.  This is it, it's final, weathered and final coat applied look.  I tried to replicate fuel stains and oil stains and such.  Thanks for putting up with me and my overload of pics!  Thanks again guys for all the help I have been given and the nice words of encouragement.  I look forward to another build.  Now, I think I'll do something out of the military norm and tackle the newest Batmobile.  It's all black!

Thanks so much for the advice.  I was able to hit it with some microsol and also added a drop of future (I got that tip about the future from one of the video tips here I think) and it seemed to help it some.  Then the future over the top after it all dried and it seems to be minimal at this point.  Thanks for the comments about my pony, it was a challenge to build but I loved every moment of it if you don't mind a few cuss words here and there!  I definitely think you'll appreciate the Alclad Duraluminum.  I didn't use gloss black on the main wing, I just primed it with Mr. Surfacer 1200 and sanded it smooth, then shot the Alclad on it.  For all the other Alclad, I had Alclad Gloss Black underneath.  I never was able to get the black to lay down perfectly so I also had to sand the black with micro mesh.  Yes, I feel your pain.  Good luck and I'm looking forward to seeing your pics as well!

Some great looking things happening there!  That panel detail is amazing!  Thanks for giving that tip on the 3M Acryl Red glazing putty.  I got to get my hands on some of that stuff!  Never tried the foil stuff, sounds like something I'd get frustrated with and go berserk and toss it all like I'm known to do!

added some "strengthening ribs" inside the cans. they make the back more interesting and keep the eye from seeing the imperfections of the seams and even make the *** end of the oez look more acceptable.Toast . i think there should be 3 visible but the smallest rod i has was 0.5mm and it looked too crowded with three. maybe ill try stretched sprue next time. ill add the fuel dump pipe later when theres less chance of knocking it off
