Thanks for the nice compliments guys!! I hope you all had a great Turkey Day!

I was able to cut multiple thin strips of plastic sheet and laminate them around the front engine firewall to fill up a huge gap

This is how it looks in place, better fit now

Getting ready to close up the fuselage, soon to look like MAgather's build.

Hey, man do I ever miss stuff as I age, can I still get in on this GB?  Soon as I get motivated and finish up the B-36 I've got a Mono Do-335 as part of a twin pack to build.  Excited to look thru you guys wipe's.

Rrider

Thanks bud! So I'm not the only one with this problem I see? You usually have to grind stuff off to make the resin parts fit but here u have to add. Did you use the Quickboost rear engine? My assembly was about 1/16 or so short in reaching the rear bulkhead so I had to cut it off to stretch it and another huge gap had to be filled in at the rear bulkhead contact point with the fuselage.

These are the problem areas

It will be best to leave off the fuel tank and rear engine to make painting easier. Both pieces slide right in and can be secured after the camo is done. I can then add the delicate solder plumbing to the rear engine and close off the cut done to stretch the assembly.

The fuselage went together with plast I weld needing no filler at all. The parts fit was super. The front engine minus the mount is glued on but will be easy to mask off for the camo work.

I think this way, the Dornier will be shown in a way not normally seen. When ever possible, I like to open up the model to show the interior.

As I get closer for the exterior paint work, I wonder about doing a "what if" camo. There were only 2 B2's done and like the rest of the 335's the camo is rather boring. I have seen a couple of  "what if" paint jobs involving mottling and thin wavy lines all over the top and sides. Not really historically accurate but way cooler paint job. Just playing with the idea. What do you guys think? Hmm

Hey PJ... I dont remember having the big opening at the back where the prop shaft would be, but yes on the gaps on either side of the rear engine mount, where I just filled with epoxy. I used epoxy because it not only filled the gaps, but also bonded the resin piece to the fuselage. The front engine gap I filled just a bit differently, my kit being a Monogram I had to move the engine forward which left a 1/8 gap between firewall and fuselage.  I was able to take a piece of "plastistruct" about 1/4 inch wide and bonded to the firewall which then fit beautifully.

As far as a "what if" paint... shoot, check mine out and the whole build was what if. I agree that all splinter schemes that these beautiful old birds left the factories with ( the very few that were completed) were notjust boring ...they were BORING!!! I look forward to something ddifferent and would love to see your "what if".

I intend to do one more shortly after the new year begins, and I will guarantee you it as the first one will be what if. A med theme maybe... hmmm.

Take care

Doug

I would think that since so very few ever got into production it begs for a rather "open" interpretation for the paint scheme.

I'm ok with what-if paint.  Me, I'm gonna be boring, but I'm working from a slightly different perspective.  I've gotten this whole new collection idea working.  Maybe I'll work up a what if with a different build.

Lots of work in that B2 Junkie.  Looking real good.

Shep: Paint colors were hit and miss late in the war. Although the RLM developed a new paint order about the time your airframe was built that was 81 and 82 103 was documented with a light and dark green with the dark green closer to an olive than what we call 81 Braunviolette, and was the typical late war 262 colors of the same 81/82/76.  I think you are good with your colors..

Reasoned: I'm sure that Clemens will welcome you with open arms.  He's an inclusive sort. Hell, he let me in, even if I dropped off the face of the planet on his Carrier GB.

Thanks fellas. Been searching and searching for pictures of the insides of the wheel wells and so far nothing except for this here about the 9th and 10th images: www.airpages.ru/.../do335_03.shtml

I wanted to add some wiring to dress up the wells but I plan to permanently mount the Arrow on a planked tarmac so the details will not be seen. I may just plug in the wings and continue without the wiring. Still debating the alternate "what if" scheme.

Hey Reasoned, is that the kit with a P-47? That's what I'm gonna do for the GB.  What version are you planning?  I want to start mine at the end of the month after I finish my son-in-laws Christmas present (a 1/25 Batmobile) and I think I am going for pretty much out of the box build with some extras.

Sorry for my lack of replies lately. Windows updated my Internet Explorer to IE11 and the FineScale community site doesn't work with that version. I backdated it now to IE10 and everything works again.

PJ: She's looking damn fine!

Reasoned: The others are right! I AM happy to welcome another participant to this GB!

Yep, this one:

I'm going to do the single seater and probably as she's depicted in the instructions.  How about you?

I'm not going to start until after 1st of year, at earliest.  Got another build that has been my bane.

Edit: Come to think of it, I did some research on the pilot of the P-47 depicted, took a little time to track down from the identification numbers (come to find out this a/c was shot down, not by an "Arrow").  I will have to see if the Do-335 can be done……doubt it.

Thanks . Hey that's weird, several days back I could not get on the forum so I called FSM and a very nice lady helped me out. Apparently I had to click on a box accepting the Explorer 11 and it worked.

I did some gizmology and added bits and pieces of stretched sprue and small thingies to busy up the wheel well. I still need to repeat this process on the other well. I also added thin wiring to the front engine and drilled out both cowl gun muzzles.

Still need to play around with some more thingies here and there just to busy up things. The flash makes the engine look a bit light and dirty but not so in normal light.

Darnitol Junkie, you are screwing up my mind with all of these new resource shots you found.  Love your wheel well plumbing.  Lemme see if I can find the shot that I used for my wheel well upgrade.

On a sort of related note, I was trying to add the DO335 GB Badge but it's highlighting in red that the signature field is only allowed 512 characters.  I'm well bellow 300 characters (including both badges) but won't allow me to post the badge the same way I posted my FW190 GB one. Any suggestions?

Yes my brutha! Youre going to have to combine your GB badges in photo shop on your computer, save it and then upload the saved file with the two GB badges to photobucket ,THEN you can paste it into your profile from photobucket.

It was tricky at first for me because I didn't know squat about photo shop.

Just checked here and can't believe this thread has hit a brick wall, no new postings. I'm guilty too as I have been caught up with other things around the house and haven't been able to work on my Arrow at all. Still have to add the plumbing to the right well but after that is done the paint should be next.

Got me a Revell of Germany 1/32 Salamander from Squadron for  $18. Lots of room for scratch building in this larger scale for the future GB. Hmm

Merry Christmas Guys!  I;ve been somewhat waylaid, but I wanted to show you a neat little product that I found at my LHS in the train section.  MV Products Lenses, Size 22. These are real glass on steel reflectors.

Here they are installed.  I drilled the part that goes in the wing and painted it RLM 02

Here is what has side tracked me. 1/72 Tornado.

Wow... Cool looking Tornado!, Your right about some odd little parts like you found! Holy crap!~ I could barely handle those and tweezers would likely launch them into the "Void of lost parts" if I tried them. I found a cool little part one time in the train section (HO) brake hand wheel that was perfect for a Bf109 trim tab adjusting wheel. Also you can find some nice dry transfers down to some very small sizes, I like to use to put ser# on DB engine blocks.Again, nice Tornado!

Thanks Ridge.  The Tornado obviously doesn't have all the fiddly bits on it yet, and I haven't even finished out the decals, but making some good progress.  I intend to get back to my  Arrow this weekend now that the holiday season is over, and I can move away from shopping, cooking etc, and back to building.

Happy New Year everyone !, ,

I was up early after a largish night last night, so I decided to start my Hobby Boss 1/72 Do 335A. All the parts are off the sprue, and cleaned up, and I'm ready to start construction now.

I'm going to use Berna Decals sheet 72-45 to reproduce a French aircraft from the early post war years.

Photos to follow.

Cheers
