That looks really nice wayne, like your base idea.

I thought this was the Flak 37 build on the list, but I just remembered that a 3.7cm gun isn't it. damn Germans always make things confusing.

thanks. sorry about the confusion. this is the FLAK 36 with leftover parts for the 37. i sy=till have a pair of 37mm DFLAK 37s in the stash. may do one with the 6 wheel truck, also in the stash. i change my mind even after starting these things. now where to fit the german G-4 3 axle staff car in the GB scheme?

Great builds everyone!  I have a progress pic for the 88.  Not up to wayne's level, but I'm learning and having a blast!  Big shout out to Bish for all the help he is giving me on the history of the 88 and what needs to be on the dio I hope to be doing with this beautiful gun.  Thanks Bish!  Bow Down

Going slow on the build as it is my first armor type build.....and I'm liking it!

good first build, no PE though my second tamiya (same kit) has some AM that came in the club auction.  looks  good. and way too earlier to compare. dirt hides a multitude of mistakes. are you going to have it in travel mode or emplaced

BTW don't do an indy track kit for your first armor vehicle. maybe a FLAK half track.

Thanks Wayne!  I hope to do a little dio with it firmly grounded in a dugout type setting.  BoB time frame defending Berlin.  I have a couple of ideas for some cool stuff to put in the dio, so we shall see how it turns out.

i'm also doing an emplacement FLAK position. i assume you saw the 4 triangular pieces are used to secure the trails in emplacement and shouldn't be attached to the trails as they would be in travel mode.

Hey Wayne.  Yep.  I'm loving the detail that Tamiya puts into the instructions.  Heck, I'm even learning about the differences between the 36 and 37 by putting this baby together!

IIRC, the 18 had round foot pads on the carriage, and a monobloc barrel. The 36 intruduced a square footpads, a two piece barrel for easing replacement of worn ones, and new carriage wheel trucks. The 37 was a continuation of the 36 with a different coupler assembly for the barrel parts, and new fusing set up on the side of the mount. I am sure that there are more detail differences as well.

Ye, I think that about sums it up Stik. The 37 had a new gun laying system which made it more suited to fixed AA positions and less suited to being used in the field. From what Eagle was telling me, the Tamiya instructions cause a bit of confusion in suggesting that the 36 was only used in the AT role and the 37 only in the AA.

Shiv:   Great work!  Looks awesome!

Stik and Bish: Yeah, the instructions try to separate the 36 and 37 variants.  The difficulty is me not having the knowledge you guy shave with armor pieces.  I have to really pay attention and make sure I'm lookin at the 37 versions of the gun.  But what you guy s have been saying are spot on!  MANY THANKS!  The pads are in deed square and the equipment on the sides are totally different and each set up for the one variant or the other.  Makes sense!  Thanks for all the help guys!  Between this GB and the Heroes GB, I'm learning about 2 new genre of this wonderful hobby!  Ships next?!  Confused

Well, it's been another month without much progress.  I was able to get the hull and turret base coated in Tamiya Olive Drab 2.  I still need to touch up a few spots on the turret, so here's the hull:

Hopefully, I can get it finished by the end of the year.

same to you.  have a safe trip. that is looking good. warwheels build differently than tanks and trucks build differently than armored wheels.

i have a number of questions as i am always lookung for new techniques for doing trucks. i have a UN UNIMOG 4x4 in a GB. my frame is also primed, white. i figure the outside of the frame would be NATO base color and not repainted white. what color are you doing your frame? i may mix brown and gray to get that road grime color and do the whole frame and inderside, wasgh the rest of the frame with oils.

I am painting the frame the same British Gulf armour stone as the rest, but the engine, radiator, transfercase, and driveshafts are going to be black. The axles are getting painted.

Warning to all Duck Hunters.

NORAD is currently tracking a fast moving object, currently heading East into Belarus, but expected to head towards western Europe soon and then make its way to the US coast. The object can be identified by a single pilot of large statue in red suit and open cockpit. Object makes a very distinctive bell sound.

Do not, repeat, do not engage.

Merry Christmas to all, and a happy new year. Now get building and lets see some Flak.

Finally made a start on the 88 yesterday. Looking at the kit, there is certainly room for some improvement. In the main, I need to make handles for the hand wheels, the kit ones are just small stub's. I also need to add some bolts in a few places, not sure how yet, I don't have a punch and die set, so going to have to try and make them by hand. The panoramic Telescope which sits in the recuperator is very poorly details. But this was covered when not in use, so I am going to try and make one of those.

The biggest issue is that the barrel has no rifling. So the two options are to try and rifle it or make a cover. I think option two is the most likely.

So far I have assembled the barrel and the cradle, I won't be putting the two together until after painting.

This give an idea of how big this is, the barrel is over 10inches long.

That's it for now. Going to try and add those missing details and start on the pedestal.

hey bish

if it's in travel mode the sights would be boxed up and the breech and muzzle would have covers. be a shame to hide all the breech detail but you could always drape it like it fell off. i wonder if the handles were stowed and just attached when unreeling the wire? if so they wouldn't be attached in travel mode either.

Your probably right wayne, but I am doing it deployed but not in action. The site in question is used for setting up the gun, I have some pics of 88's in action with it covered. The handles in question are on the hand wheels that move the gun, but they should be easy to sort out.

I am putting it on a simple desert base. And I think putting a cover over the muzzle would make sense in such an environment.

my base will be a tad more elaborate as it is a lumber reinforced AA gun pit with room for the trails. maybe just one or 2 figures kind of looking out but not in action.

Back from holidays and did some work on the truck. Did the base coat and added a filter to all the top parts of the truck. Installed the engine and used some light rust pigment from MiG on it and wrapped the cable around the winch.

I than dusted the bottom parts of the truck with graphite powder.

I attempted to add fuel stains around the gas caps. Not sure I like how it turned out though. I used a mixture of black enamel and raw umber oil paint.
