Nice work, Jibber!

The amount of detail in this kit looks amazing. I can't wait for mine to arrive! I read somewhere that Dragon supplies you with an interior for the fighting compartment. Is that true?

Jibber, that shell catcher is a thing of beauty! The whole piece is shaping up most impressively.

looking nice. i was having a deja vu moment thinking that looks exactly like my italeri gun i just finished but you said the cage was PE. my kit had a flexible mesh instead of pe but would have been just as challenging. in travel mode it isn't there. looking forward to the paint scheme on this.

since they didn't have a turret basket inside the hull, any idea what was inside the hull in the turret area? did they have access to it for extra ammo or crew equipment?

Thanks all, Dragon supplied the interior compartment but no detail. The cage was really challenging but I noticed on the pics that I was a little careless with the CA that always shows up when you paint it up. In this case, I'm not sure how much more careful I could have been. There wasn't any attachment points, just flat PE over a frame of very small curved plastic pieces. Overall this is a really nice kit. The fits were almost perfect, I had one area that Mr. Surfacer 1000 took care of with a few passes.

Wayne I'm guessing on this, but there is access from the turret to lower compartment where ammo must have been stored. I would like to see this kit with a complete interior and a removable turret. That would be a nice build especially with the crew in their positions.

I am not certain about the Ostwind, but I have some images of Wirbelwinds which show that the crew can get access from the turret into the hull. The hull had a raised floor below the turret. The Itaelri Ostwind kit includes this raised floor with the turret bottom open. It would make sense for the Ostwind to be the same as the Wirbelwind.

jibber, with the raised floor, once the turret is removed, you can't see much anyway.

I agree, it would be a simple matter for ammo passed up into the turret from the compartment below. I think for the most part, both are the same vehicle with slightly different configurations, that would make a lot of sense for the engineers and manufacturing.

yes it would but we are talking WW2 german engineering. kinda like a DRAGON or AFV CLUB kit vs a TAMIYA kit for the soviets

If you think about it, it would be more hassle to block the hull off. The turret ring is open anyway, it was just a case of dropping the AA turret into the hull. And there is very little room inside those turret with no sign of ammo storage never mind personal equipment. And putting in the raised floor is also a good idea, there not much to stand on in the turret, so lose your footing and its a bit of a drop to the hull floor.

The German's may have over engineered things, but they did have some sense.

jibber, is there anything to go in the hull under the turret. The raised floor is rather visible through the turret. Do you want me to post some pics of the Italeri kit.

Bish according to the instructions, the gun as you see it fits over the O ring under the turret. I think once thats set in there not much will be visible. I'm more than a little surprised that with the million parts Dragon provides, there isn't at least a little of the interior under the turret.

Dragon is odd like that. I have a lot of their 251 Halftracks which all have the parts to go under the compartment floor, and so can't be seen. Yet they leave out the stuff like they have on yours.

I used mostly Tamiya acrylic and some MM on some sub assemblies the several washes with black Abteilung and turpenoid.

Bish the figure set is #1711 by Verlinden.

Thank you all.

that turned out nice and any problems with the screen are hidden inside the turret.

I've bought the Vallejo Air paint set for painting Dunkelgelb. Thought it would be fun to try, and used it on my Mobelwagen. It's just put together for the photo and has pencil lines drawn to guide the camo pattern.

Cheers

Tony I tried Vallejo Air and found I still had to thin em a bit. Maybe just my setup?

Hi Jibber,

I was able to spray mine straight through, could be the setup or the airbrush I guess. I did find that it was better to clean the needle after each color, rather than just spray a cleaning agent through it. There are five colors on it actually.

I'm just using Tamiya acrylic for the camo pattern, but I think there will be a fair bit of practice before I am fully on song for the delicate lines. Hopefully I'll get time tonight.

Cheers

Tony

luck is part of the process, not something to depend on but to relish when it occurs. and sometimes we make our own luck by pushing through a problem or block and finishing anyway. now that i have waxed philosphically and created my perserverance poster i shall work a bit on DANA 8x8 SPA.

PS i ordered the german 88mm SPAA GRILLE with an online sale. just drooled over it long enough and there is a thread in ARMOR on it.

hey jibber

i think that was the second one i did and used tamiya paints.the paint for the second color needs to be a tad thick than usual to prevent pooling at the edges. and DON"T put it under a heat lamp to dry faster. i needed to do some green touch up and overlap and i think the heat caused the silly putty to leave a residuewhich is normally does not do. so now, like tape, i tend to pull it off sooner rather than altwer and THAN but it under the "dryer. the green on my my towed 37mm here was using silly putty, the brown was brush painted.

How long did you wait to pull it off? Tamiya paints dry pretty fast, and seems like the longer you leave it the more chance of residue from the putty?

So with the Dana, you painted the body green then applied the putty and sprayed brown? I know on your 37mm you hand painted the brown.

all the acrylics dry pretty fast. usually withn 30 minutes of painting. the residue was probably from the heat which is why i don't do it any more. you have to be careful pulling the putty off for the very reason you use it instead of tape'; to cover all the little  handles and brush guards and other stuff that sticks up on a vehicle. the vehicle in the poster is the 1/35 trumpeter JGSDF TYPE 96B 8x8 IFV. i painted the brown first, than the green but both are close to the same darkness it wouldn't matter.

with my DANA i am base painting it puke green and will silly putty dark earth and either dar green or black.
